Cheap MOT's!

Featured Replies

Yep, they're trying! To be fair, Nationwide used to offer these quite often, before they were bought out and became 'Halfords Autocentres'. There used to be a coupon available via AutoTrader website for the same deal.

The thing with place's that offer cheap MOT's is that they tend to be more strict on there testing in the hope that you get the repair work done at the garage to cover the cheaper MOT

I agree, make sure the car you take to a cheap MOT is in top notch condition and check the simple things like light bulbs and fluid levels before going. You are also legally aloud to view your MOT taking place so do so - less chance for them to find problems that don't exsist!

I took my Octy for it's first MOT to a place that charges less than £30. The tester couldn't have failed the car even if he wanted to! But I did watch - and by watch I mean I followed him around the car as he went! (Although I do know the tester a little so he was pretty tollerant of this and was happy to point at and explain things)

I wouldn't recommend taking a banger for a cheapo MOT - especially at a repair garage as they want your money!

If you do have a banger perhaps take it to a local council test centre - these places don't do repairs so insentive to fail a perfectly good car.

I have always read (on MSE website etc) that the best place to go for an MOT is your local Council. This is simply because they will only deal in the MOT and not repair it afterwards. This means there's no vested interest to fail you.

Would probably cost you more in the long run. Don't trust the likes of Halfords, Kwik Fit, ATS etc

For any of you in the Bristol area.

Dead happy with these folk.

Cheap MOTs and a VAG specialist and tuner.

Fair prices on servicing, he just did my cam belt and waterpump,

fitted new *shocks and *springs + re alignment, fitted 312's *calipers *carriers

*discs and *pads and full bleed of system and *fluid upgrade.

(*=I supplied parts for these upgrade mods)

plus full annual service all in £930.

I'm very happy with the work, and I think that as with most things

you get what you pay for. included in that sum is the waterpump and

cambelt kit (Genuine) and all filters and oil and sundries used in

the servicing. And a proper 4 wheel realignment.

Great find thanks to advice/recommendations from Brisky.

The gaffer Mitch is a nice fella.

Yes, id avoid MOT Prices that seem to be too good to be true.

My little sister recently made the mistake of taking up a cheap MOT offer and was subsequently failed and charged for a re-test due to the fact she had an air freshener hanging from the rear view mirror.

Foolish girl

Good idea to use Halfords if you have a Warranty Direct policy , as they are the authorised repairers , if anything found on the MOT , other than brake pads , wipers etc , then it is covered and can be repaired whilst still with them and paid direct . Unlike if you use alternative garages then you have to pay up front for the repairs and claim it back .

Just got my M.O.T. done a Formula 1 in Southend-On-sea as they have a special offer on of £25. They were brilliant and passed the car no worries. Didn't seem like they were looking for a fail either and the M.O.T chap was very friendly, guess I was probably luck though

I've just done exactly the same thing with F1 Autocentres in Cheltenham

booked online to make it half price down from £50 to £25

they did fail on a number plate bulb which they they charged be £7 to fix but I could have argued but had if flown through and been charged £32 i'd have been happy

Bulbs and the obvious stuff would be the first things I'd check myself, before going for a cut-price MoT :)

Glad you're sorted though Pasty emoticon-0148-yes.gif
