I'm not convinced they've reached German levels of build integrity.
I would like to know what this actually means in a World where products are designed in one country, put together in another country from parts sourced in several countries. These are then sold by a further corporate entity through a franchised dealer network.

Honda have their cars bolted together by Welshmen and Nissan by Geordies. Citroen build cars in Spain and Audi and VW have Czech's build their gearboxes. Apple and other electronics manufacturers have all of their products made in the far east. Is the country a product is made or designed in a mark of it's quality?

Disagree strongly that they are not as well made as VW. I had a Passat B6 from new and it was no better made than my two Fabias. Fabia despite having many of the switchgear is lightyears beyond the three MkIV Golfs I owned.

I do agree though that the rejection option is probably going nowhere productive. Faults are annoying but not major enough to get a new car or refund. In theory they can all be fixed relatively easily perhaps dealer competence is the issue.

Totally agree. We all are guilty of expecting to much from a warranty.

Rejecting a car goes nowhere fast. I have considered it with a Focus of mine (2 engines went). In the end got the engines sorted, free servicing for the life of the car. Massive reduction on the agreed price of the car and a good service off the dealer when i needed it.

At the end of the day my Fabia cost me £12000. It has a nice rattle now when it starts from cold, the central looking will occasianlly open the windows as well as the doors but i dont see them as warranty jobs worth ranting to the dealer about. It in my opinion adds something to the car, it makes me smile everytime it happens!! and my mates think the window thing is hillarious.

Had cars costing 3 times this amount which all had similar glitches, it is only a car after all.

My new impreza has a glitch now with the brakes being from a differnt model to what they should be. But got round it and ordered the correct ones.

Mate they all do that with the windows it doesn't seem to be a fault, freaked me out the first time it happened on mine. If you keep your thumb pressed on the remote button the windows will automatically wind all the way down... I suspect the times when its happened to you are a result of your keeping the button pressed for a fraction too long. Tom

That's a feature!

Bloody great on a hot day!

Similarly holding lock button closes windows!

Claiming under warranty and rejecting a car are two very separate things.

We all pay for the warranty in the price of our cars, for me if a manufacturing defect appears within the warranty period then I want it fixed.

My Octavia used to creak constantly. The dealer took half an hour to adjust the doors, free of charge, under warranty.

The finish on the Skoda badge tarnished. Fixed for free.

The ABS / ESP module failed, a £1000+ repair, half a day, free of charge, under warranty.

A piece of the high level brake light broke off and dropped into the boot lid. A constant rattle. Fixed under warranty.

All four alloy wheels delaminated, replaced under warranty, you guessed it, free of charge. The following year, same again, all four replaced for a second time.

If I'd wanted these manufacturing faults fixed without the warranty I'd be looking at the best part of £5,000.

Warranty has its advantages, use it!

I dont think Adam's problems can be put down to "expecting too much from a warranty". We are talking about a brand new car here that should not have been handed over with any faults and they should certainly have been rectified with a humble apology - not handed back without the faults sorted and also say they wouldn't accept a rejection. If this is the best that the dealer and Skoda UK can do then they dont deserve to sell cars.

Adam, if you really want to sell it, sell it private or you will be utterly shafted. The dealership will offer you £3k less than what you bought it for. Depending on how much finance you took out, you could even be in negative equity and have to pay the finance company even more to settle the agreement.

I tried to trade a 3 month old car back in to the dealer, and they offered me £6500 as trade in. The car cost £9500 three months previously. You'll make a big loss, not "a little bit".

Selling it back to them is like cutting off your nose to spite your face, they will make a profit on the car twice and laugh all the way to the bank.

It's not the car that you hate, it's the dealer. They sound completely useless. :(

Take it to a different dealer first off. The faults you have are hardly the be all and end all. Give another dealer a chance to fix.

Besides the steering the only faults seem to be rattles.....This should be easily resolved by a competent dealer (i ended up with a new dash in my old Polo)

Im looking into selling the car back to the dealership, taking a bit of a loss and walking away and getting another car. Cant be doing with the car, every day a new 'fault' appears. For those that say im expecting to much, perhaps to you but this is my first new car and wanted it to be perfect.

Adam260 sorry your problems have not been solved.

As you used HP to finance the car then the car belongs to Skoda Finance, you need to get advice on the best way to get rid of the car or it could seriously effect your credit rating and stop you getting finance on any future cars, loans etc.

Lets face it cars just arent built like they used to be. I remember the days when the 90's Audi 80 felt like it was carved from granite. My brother in law bought a nearly 20 year old one a couple of years ago and other than being a bit noisy and the ABS being broken there wasnt a thing wrong with it, loads of miles on it too.

I've had a few VAG group cars now, all apart from the Fabia being VW's and every single one has had to have warranty work. My MK6 Golf has been in two or three times for broken trim/rattling issues in the early days though has to be said its been a peach since.

I feel sorry for you Adam, buying a new car should be a nice experience and it definitely looks to me like you've got yourself a proper Friday afternoon car, a real shame. I do think however given you've driven away from the dealers in it and have had it a few weeks now you'll really struggle to reject the car, its effectivey used now, not new. If you're prepared to take legal action fair enough but not sure I'd want to be going down that path just for the sake of a car.

My advice, keep your cool, accept the fact the car has its issues (our Fabia isnt perfect either, not even 3 months old and 1400 miles on the clock and has a broken handbrake lever and its fair share of rattles and noises).

I'm of the mind that whilst a Skoda is a VAG group product they aren't as well put together as a VW or Audi anyone who says so either hasnt owned a VW/Audi or are just kidding themselves. From my own experience I would say less care is taken on fit and finish...ours has some suspect scratches on the dash and centre console...makes sense given its a budget car built in Czech Republic by people probably paid alot less than their colleagues in Wolfsburg.

I would take the car to another reputable dealer (i'm sure someone on here can recommend someone) with a full list of the issues and get them sorted under warranty. Say to them you'll take it for a test drive and if you're not happy you'll be bringing it back and it will be staying with them until its sorted. Like others have said rattles generally arent that easily sorted and probably best left alone but the other things should be easy enough to resolve, Fabia's in pretty much every case do rattle to some degree. You've given your supplying dealership enough oportunity and they've failed. Take it elsewhere and i'm sure the stress of the situation will ease.

A high proportion of new VW's will be built in Spain and the Beetle and new Jetta in Brazil. Don't kid yourself that they are German built.

Adam, sorry to hear is now gone this wrong. I hope you manage to get the maximum amount from the sale or whatever you finally agree.

I would not argue with any of your last post, you are in a corner and if thats the best route for you to sell it then please do what you feel is right.

My only comment would be, please keep us all updated on the final outcome as although maybe some of the posts on here you have not liked, but please remember it is a forum of free speech and believe it or not your experience may or may not help others in the future (even though i am sure your dont care about that at this particular moment in time).

Fingers crossed for you on the sale.

Ending all online updates with the situation now, if anyone wants to know the outcome feel free to PM me.

Thanks everyone,

Adam.

:dull:

Adam sooo sorry mate , skoda should have sorted this out cannot understand, they have lost a customer that would have bought several more cars over his life time, also family and friends will never think of purchasing, absolutley crazy, hope you don't stay away when you get a new car regardless of make, all the best :)
