European Trip

Featured Replies

Only just got back from a trip to Hungary in the SE. First really long trip that I have done in it and I must say I am very pleased with it.

Only had one problem and that was the Sat Nav failed coming back but that's not really a problem with the car.

Just checked my fuel consumption and found something unusual, in my normal everyday driving I run from full to empty. Normally get about 50 to 52 according to the trip computer but when I calculate the actual MPG is is about 45 to 47.

For the whole trip of almost 3000 miles the trip computer reading was 64.5 mpg so I was expecting an actual of about 59 to 60. Just calculated the actual mpg and it is 66.75 mpg so more than the trip computer. Not complaining but this is the first time ever that it been more than the trip in the 2 1/2 years that I've owned the car.

The only reason that I can think of for this is that in my normal everyday driving of accelerating and breaking the trip computer does a poor job of calculating the mpg where as on a long trip of driving at constant speeds it is more accurate

Anyway really please with the car if it wasn't for getting lost in Koln and spending about an hour a half driving round I believe I would have got about 730 miles out of one tank full !

Not bad for a little sports car emoticon-0144-nod.gif

Sounds good to me. :) These cars definitely return good economy once "at speed" and at speed for quite some time at a steady rate. This is probably why diesels are commonly used in marine applications as they give good economy at set revs.

Week in week out my economy works out more than what the trip says lol i posted about it not too long ago :)

+1

Last 2 fill ups (brim-brim) car states an average of 41.8, actual was 43.1

Just got back from a 450 mile round trip to wales for a camping trip, and i was thinking how good the car is. Seem to get better mpg with the 150 turbo that the 130, and it can just sit at 70/80 on the motorway andreturn 60+. Even managed to get 60mpg on the clock on the back roads doing like 50/60 in 5th

Epic cars :)

Do people find a better mpg with or without cruise control fitted for long runs?

Better with cruise control

Because unconciously, without cruise control you speed goes up and down along with braking and accelerating again

Best observed when following two women in a car

As the driver talks to the passsenger and the hand gestulations start the speed drops from 60 to 45, then when it is the passengers turn to speak the car goes up to 60 again

or when traffic comes towards them the speed drops to 50 then back up again when clear, again when it comes to a long bend slows down until straight again

Even more obvious is the GUY with the mobile phone, 80mph phone goes to ear speed drops to 60 ish for the next eight miles/conversation then phone down. back up to 80

National

Very good economy. My brother has a fabia 1.9tdi pd100 estate and has returned 65mpg on motorway journeys!

If u doin european trip u dont expect excellent mpg as u run 90-100ish mph

otherwise your journey lasts forever

after 10 hours non stop driving u want get it done asap so dont care about mpg

With my SE the fuel computer is always optimistic by over 20% - it's an unfixable "feature" of the car!
