Insurance Company Recommendations

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Well, I am a 49 year old professional male, live in rural Hampshire, 10 years NCB, squeaky clean licence, and use my 18 month old vRS for the usual commuting, S,D+P, so not a high risk driver you would have thought. However I have just had an insurance renewal letter from my broker saying the cheapest renewal figure they can offer is £542!

Can anyone out there recommend a cheaper insurer? I haven't Compared the Meerkat or anything yet, would rather go on recommendation.

TIA,

Cheers,

Bob.

My recommendation would honestly be gocompare, compare the market, moneysupermarket

I'm currently with Admiral though and they seem pretty decent.

Chris Knott are normally pretty good

Adrian Flux can be cheap but there organisation & paperwork leaves a bit to be desired.

Pace ward are good on performance cars but probably dont class a VRs as performance but worth a try. + is they are top notch on admin & if you are unfortunate enough to have a claim are proactive on your behalf http://www.paceward.com/insurance/motor-insurance/prestige-performance

I have just left Admiral as in my opinion they are an absolute shower! I am now with swift cover and that change saved me £230 a year!! :wonder:

This would also be my recommendation, and include confused.com also, as in my experience one man's awesome car insurance company is more often than not the next man's totally **** and uncompetitive one.

I called a few specialist insurers with regard to looking at modified insurance cover and none of them could get anywhere near the quote from a mainstream company after a gocompare search.

I get the impression that the whole insurance industry is trying it on in a big way. There is no money to be made in their traditional investments so fleecing the customers seems to be the chosen strategy. Both renewals I have had recently have had exorbitant rises with kind offers of automatic renewal. Shopping around I have reduced car insurance by 50% and home insurance by 66% from the renewal quoted from the companies that were the previous year the best offers around . . .

NFU Mutual have always been excellent with my parents, they're not the cheapest, but when "disaster" strikes, you simply cannot fault them.

They just take over & get the job done and make it so easy for you. I guess it won't come as a surprise that they're currently rated as the UK's top insurer.

I have just gone with M &S insurance because they do allow mods.... price was quite good as well...seem OK so far

Lol, you do know they are both one and the same company don't you? Lol

I would recommend the NFU as well, I have four vehicles and they group it all together, syncronised all the renewal dates to one date every year, they do dirt cheap monthly payments, about 2%apr, plus as you deal with the NFU agents as brokers they are quick and easy to deal with for amendments, changes etc you also get a decent renewal bonus as they are a mutual, and I needed to use them for claims a few years ago twice in a few weeks and they were overall very good and dealt with the claim with no major issues.

I would highly recommend them, yes they are slightly more expensive but its worth it for the excellent service.

insured mine with swiftcover, considering i'm in the middle of a claim on my old vrs they have covered my mk2 for a few quid more than my mk1 was last year so i was certainly happy with them!

Odd!

When I renewed I did the whole compare the market, and they were by FAR the cheapest for me!

Insurance is obviously too individual! Paying about £450 now

I got my insurance renewal last week & it has gone up £100 from last year! :'( i rang round & went on all the go compare type websites & none of them could give me the same level of cover as my current insurer for any less money so im staying with them for another year!.

I have just done the same (Admiral -> Swift Cover) and saved ~£300

Would recommend getting a quote direct from Swifts website. They were by far the easiest and fastest for this.

I'm with Elephant. Been very good to me. Just renewed a couple of weeks ago. Whilst on the phone to them their system crashed, so I waited whilst she rebooted the machine. This immediately knocked £100 off the premium! I gave her my payment details without waiting for a second breath!

I'm back with www.iamsurety.com as they didn't increase their price from last year. Result !

I'm with Elephant as they were the cheapest that met my requirements.

But beware, they ,uniquely?, refuse to pay out first party claims if you are convicted for driving under the influence of drink or drugs.

As a ,prescription, multi -drug user I hold my hands up to the latter.

I'm pretty close to all of your parameters inc Hampshire, 53 yr old, "59 plate FL Octy VRS, I'm with esure inc remap it's £418, give them a try!

Could try esure car is on wifes name 10yrs + no claims ages 43 me named driver 39 230 quid a year for a 2011 vrs. Best price i got by a long shot and that was only 2 months ago

I've been with Esure quite a long time now. I also go through the comparison sites every year but I've still ended up with Esure.

They are the same company as BoS and Sheila's Wheels and have a UK call centre. They've been ok in all my dealing so far, I wouldn't give them glowing praise like some people give NFU but they've been ok.

Have used Elephant in the past and would have stuck with them but they got dear for me.

Norwich Union have also given some competitive quotes to me.

Lots of advice here -

+1 :giggle:

I did it for me. Went from £550 quote (when I changed my car to Octy vRS) to £310. I also have 9+rs & live in Hampshire. I think £300 is going to be hard to beat. This isnt with a big Xs either £250 or £300.

Just a quick update - my insurance broker said the cheapest quote they could get me was Aviva at £550. I went to the Aviva website myself and came up with a quote of £370, and that's with legal cover, protected NCD etc etc. They give a 20% discount if you take out insurance online. Then the Missus said try going through Quidco, and sure enough, special deal for September with Aviva is £70 cashback. Get in!

Bob.

Best quote i had was Liverpool Victoria (250 pounds), but had to stick with Saga(380) because they give no limits on how much you travel and stay on the continent. 60-90 days in a year is the limit for most companies and not enough for me.
