My Rs Performance Update No.2

Featured Replies

Stage 2 was a jabba remap, which has now been completed. Drove home with a big :D this thing flies now.

The map was done with 95ron fuel as thats what I always use. Using 98 should give another 5 BHP according to mike.

Here is the dyno showing both before and after.

dyno2.jpg

and after endless tweaking and rr runs as you can see it looks good, mike was really pleased with the result and so am I.

227BHP@6034 RPM

303.2Nm of Torque.

Mike initially had a few problems and had to clean the MAF and some other bits because of boost problems at 4k rpm. The engine would go like a train, then stutter at 4k to 4100rpm, then carry on like a train to the red line.

New brakes sir?

:D

congrats manny!! :D :D

now go forth and enjoy!

Congrats Manny you must be chuffed (i've still got to wait another 2 weeks :( )

Any other mods besides the full Milltek + the Jabba chip?

Nope, all the rest is standard. I can see the words discs and pads embedded in my mnd, because now I can go all I need to do is stop.

Hi Manny,

lookin' good!

Did you use the patented Des map in the end?

227bhp is a good gain but with the full Milltek I was thinking you would be closer to Des' 240bhp.

What sort of map did you ask Mike to do for you; the same as standard but more?

Sorry for all the questions, trying to sort out what to ask for when I go for my remap.

2 weeks to go; Dave was it a coil pack that went?

Cheers.

Adrian.

Manny,

My msg (see No 1) clashed with your new thread. Did Mike feel the Milltek gave good results as with 95 RON petrol its a bit lower than he told me, for a std car range 225-235. Anyway its the torque that counts so what is 302 Nm converted to lbf.ft ?

Chris

Adrian,

Exactly my point, if Mike says 225-235 for a std car surely with full Milltek another 10 bhp minimum and what about the torque? So 95 Ron fuel seems to be the issue.

I think my Jabba 309Nm equated to 228lb.ft

My car has less power (220) also run on normal 95UL out of choice.

302Nm=223lbFt - go here for a really neat converter page.

PS Jabba's dyno reads in metric horsepower too so you need to round down slightly for imperial.

Aye I'd say it's the 95 Ron...Ian is pushing 222BHP with an optimax specific remap, mine is similar and 207 on 95 Ron (APR 95 pgm).

So assuming a reasonable map on 95 "supermarket" fuel, 227 is good. Using optimax in the tank on a 95 map gives a boost, but nowhere near as much as remap using optimax as you can advance timing etc. The downside is you have to run optimax or pootle to avoid damage.

Hence I went in part for a switching program as offered by APR (Not that I would again btw).

If I was to go to Jabba it would be for a 95 Ron remap as optimax is rare as blonde cuties in the highlands.

Mike told me the ECU would advance the timing itself and learn from the knock sensors. He told me it was worth using better fuel (not specifically Optimax) as the advance in ignition timing would give more torque, not necessarily more power.

I've no problem getting Optimax; 2 stations very close to me. However what if Shell withdraws Optimax what do I do then?

Would SUL be ok instead?

Cheers.

I knew a blonde lass from ayrshire, does that count?

I mentioned to Mike that it had a full miltek on, cause Jabba used to be a miltek dealer a few years ago and had quiet a few problems with them and poor cs back then, so now they do jetex.

I think everyone is right what they say about being less power than expected is because of 95ron, it was nearly a full tank so a few litres of 98 would be neither here nor there. But it certainly feels quick and pulls nicely in whatever gear you have selected. I think mike said its overboosting to 1.15bar what ever that means.

I mentioned that I knew both Des and Jon, and mike said "Yep I think theres a bit of competition there".

Adrian, No its not Des's secret map. I think unless you say otherwise you will get standard and loads more umphh.

Driving round town feels just the same and is still nice and smooth, however once on the open road I think even the driver becomes a passenger and the engine becomes the driver as you are pressed back into the seatback. Whilst accellerating my mate who was with me on the testdrive said he was struggling to lean foward. Fuel Economy on the drive home does not seem to be to affected, only time will tell here.

All I can say is that it was money well spent. How long I wonder till it just feels normal and I want MORE power.

Well done Manny , glad everything went OK and you are pleased with the results .....................I think I am the next one :D

Thanks Manny.

I wonder once you've got used to the power whether you'll enter the "competition" with Jon and Des.;)

I suppose they'll have to mod the speedo dials soon.:D

It's good for everyones else though as we get see what's possible and what is or isn't suitable for your individual circumstances.

Cheers.

Adrian.

Pete,

are you on the 4/7 or is that Mark (Panrix)?

I have the full list of who's being "done" when somewhere at home.

Will post it if I can find it.

Cheers.
