  • all this trouble with rear wipers, buy a Greenline and your rear wiper will never fail, coz you don't get one

my rear wiper stops working if i have done a long journey when raining, leave it a while and it will work again.

I had the rear wiper issue with my last Vrs it stopped working then started then just died completely. The car was 4 years old and apparently its quite abcommon issue, a replacement wiper motor sorted it.

I had this issue last year, new motor required - sorted under warranty

Next door neighbours has just gone the other way - he can't turn his off!

I have the same problem. My rear wiper was working whenever it wanted. Now it just stopped in the middle of the rear window and won't move.

It started by working without me turning it on every time I would start the car. After that the wiper was working intermittently coming to a complete stall today.

I scanned the car with VagCom and nothing. The measuring block shows that the rear wiper is on but nothing happens.

The wiring between the chassis and the hatch is also intact.

I didn't have the patience to wait for the week end so I took the motor apart, cleaned it (it wasn't rusty as I expected) and the result is that I have 2 problems now:

1. The rear wiper is still not working

2. The washer is leaking inside the motor mechanism.

Any ideas?

I would say that you need a new wiper motor. Apparently it's a common issue and I think it could be a dealer only part because when the motor failed on my last vrs euro car parts and a few places said it was dealer only.

Anyone found that the boot lock isnt working at the same time the wiper doesnt work?

Rear wiper wont work unless the boot is shut correctly.

One problem could be masking another....check the boot closes okay and its mechanisms are free from dirt and move easily

Then start thinking new motors and such

I had this problem last winter, the washer pipe had come off where it normally does under the trim next to the cd changer and shorted the electrics. Monkster.

Oh i didnt know that, but problem i have is that the boot lock release wont fire on the remote or the lid button so if i shut the boot its locked shut. Now the interior boot panel is off so i should be able to manually open the lock but rather not have the hassle of climbing in and if i cant open it then possible big trouble.

Im not sure if i will have to bite the bullet though and hope that shutting it will infact get it working in the first place.

Strangely as well though my front wipers have stopped working (they didnt work and then did) and also the water squirty aint working either. Sounds like an earth issue to me for it to be working and then not, but just guessing at the mo.

You can get a repair kit for some of the golfs, so I wonder if such a kit is available for the Octy also.

allan1888, you were partially right. I took the motor apart with a friend and found out some more things:

- the rotor was blocked, the brushes to be exact

- the mechanism controlling the wiper to stop is broken and also it is not water tight therefore 50% of the washing fluid goes in my trunk.

So now I need a new motor. On the internet I've found the part no. 1Z5 955 711 A. But if I google 1Z5 955 711 A it only shows Octavia Combi (Estate) rear wiper motor.

The question is: does the hatchback's rear wiper motor have the same part number?

Edited by Clodius

My Part number was 1z5955711A for my replacement motor on my Vrs hatchback

I read a bit more on the internet and apparently for the Octavia 2 Estate the code starts with 1z9 instead of 1z5

Replaced the wiper motor yesterday and everything is fine now. If you have the same problem I would recommend you check first if the motor needs replacing or you just need to clean the mechanism.

If I can be of assistance you can send me a PM.

All the best!

Tonight mine has stopped working stuck in the middle of the window!

Mine has stopped tonight!

I think mine's on the way out too! It works sporadically, but after a few swipes, it stutters then stops completely.

Exactly how mine was a week ago. Now it works 1 time out of 20 tries.

Ho hum. Looks like a trip to the dealers then!

Must be something in the air as mine packed up yesterday having been working fine.

Time to see if the dealers aftersales is any good, particularly as I've only had the motor 3 weeks

Booked in for the 19th jan at 2pm to get it looked at then probably rebooked to come back again :dull: also they are looking at the DMF again if its not a green light to replace it under warranty then its goodby Skoda and hello ....something else not sure yet, look out for a miltek cat back, Whiteline RARB and Shark STS box in the forsale section.
