Show us your winter wheels

Just decided to go ahead and order a set of steelies with Nokian A3 (205 55 16). Will not look as good as alloys but at least, no one will think that I run 16" alloys on vRS all year long... Just need to find some centre wheel cap that will fit on them.

  • Think we may be drifting off-topic with this one - seeing as no winter wheels photos are being shown Can we agree to disagree and take it to a fresh post if we want to discuss wheel aesthetics?

Some quite good choices from Skoda in 16" trims. The ones on a Superb Mk1 Classic would be work looking at IMO.

They can be expensive from the dealer though new. So you might want to scan eBay.

Finally relented this year. Have wanted winter tyres for the last few years but never had the money for it. This year I had a few quid put away so decided to take the plunge. Couldn't afford to shod my 18" factory alloys in winter rubber so elected to go for 16" (205/55/16 91H - after reading countless threads on here) and ended up going for Michelin Alpin A4's and supplied steel wheels from MyTyres for £534'ish quid plus (hopefully) £16 cashback from QuidCo.

I'll post some pictures up when they arrive and are on the car!

Forecast for next few days consistently cold so put my winter steelies on yesterday. Going for the police car / robocop car look;

I just love steelies.

There are pictures of the new quashqui (excuse spelling) in auto express and its running full size steelies in its final testing. I think it looks good and would happily own it with steelies. They kind of suit 4x4's compared to alloys as it makes them look more rugged IMO. Sometimes alloys on 4x4's look to bling. Look at X5's. I hate the overly big and wide alloys on those things. I have seen one on more standard wheels and it suits it so much better.

For me my winters would need to be on steelies or on my original alloy rims. Think im gonna chance it this year though and stay on my summers. The more of you who buy winters the better as it makes it more likely to stay mild.

Any idea how much those Caddy centre caps are from the VW / Skoda dealers?

Hi all, just need some advice before biting the bullet, will these fit my 2012 Octy VRS?

DEZENT RE dark

7.50J x 16 OS 50

Black matt

And are these any good: Hankook Winter-ICept-RS-W442 (M+S marking)?

What does M+S marking mean?

205/55 R16 91 H or T which do I need?

They are all coming from Mytyres.

Or do I just go for these:

Steel wheels with winter tyres (LK 5 x 112.00 x 57.00)

Nokian WR A3 BSW 205/55 R16 91H

Skoda OCTAVIA RS 2.0 TFSI 1Z 1984ccm 147 kW 09.2005-

Cheers in advance.

OK...................M+S is Mud and snow so no worries there.

7.5J sounds a bit wide to me, especially with the ET at 50.

Bear in mind you need to run 6J ET50 to use chains and 6.5J ET 50 for normal wheels for the 16".

Get your tyres from Camskill:

On my third winter with these. Still not half worn

Cheers, but I want to get a whole package.

Same as summer!!! Shock!!

I would expect the Nokian WR's to be a LOT better than the Hankooks. Nokian is usually the king of snow tyres.

This is a good thread!

I'm going to order a set of 16 inch winter wheels and tyres this week. I will likely go for steels. What is the required winter tyre specification for a 2008 VRS estate? In my manual it says "the permissible sizes of winter tyres are stated in your vehicle documents." What is this referring to? When I look inside the fuel filler cap it does not given recommendations for winter tyre sizes.

I assume it is 205/55 R16 but what is the recommended load index and speed rating?

Thanks

Load index of 94 with XL and speed rating of H minimum

I have these tyres with these figures:

thank ChrisRS.

Spoke to greenlight insurance this morning and they said that as long as the tyres are road legal and I'm not travelling more quickly than the speed rating on the tyre then I'm covered. On mytyres.co.uk when I search under my estate vehicle no XL tyres are listed under the complete wheels steel rims section. I tried phoning them but the call centre doesn't deal with "technical queries". I can buy XL tyres from them separately but I need their cheap steel rims too! I'm waiting for an email reply now.
