The biq question is how fast really. Chassis wise it should be very good.

Power wise if i stay Stage 2 i guess 220-225Hp ish. If i end up with the stage 3 and LOBA it could be anywhere between 250-300hp, it all depends on how they get on with the misfires and boost issues and at the point at which the power can be raised without any misfires issues etc.

hopefully the OKADAs will solve the misfires. If they dont, ill stay stage 2.

looking forward to collecting it on the 9th Sep though. I havent driven a car at all in the last 3 months, so its going to feel insane what every setup i have

I hope you don't think I'm spamming your thread Sy, but I have to say that personally I'll be a little bit sad if you settle for the lower power version of the car.

This was looking like it was going to be one of the quickest Skodas out there and having seen how well a Fabia mkII VRS goes round the track it would have been an amazing machine.

Quarter miles times are all well and good, but it's just a straight line and a part of what a car can do

Yes, it would have been nice to see you crack my mkI diesel at 13.6, which no mkII has yet, but as an overall car it would have been so capable it would have been nice to see it do it's stuff on track days and shows.

I'm still hoping you go through with it. :)

Nah your not spamming the thread mate. it will be sad if i dont have the hybrid power, bnut it wont be slow either.

Doesnt need big power to get around a track quick, just look at how quick the APR Stage 2 Polo was in the Hot Tuner FWD Challenge.

Second(marginally) to a Golf GTI that has an extra 160hp, with the same suspension, tyre and brake setup as the Polo!!

http://goapr.com.au/media/mm-june2011.pdf

Although imagine how much that polo would have smashed them had it had another 50Hp!!!

I think if hurdy had kept his polo and left it for development some tuners would of found the max that the hybrid can achieve with water meth already installed in his car. That should have kept the misfiring issue to a minimum as he had the plasma packs as well if I remember correctly?

I personally dont think it's worth installing a £200+ water meth kit just to be able to use the car to its full potential, its not something I would be able to live with knowing I have a dependency on methanol just to get what I want out of the car.

I am pretty much certain on getting my car beefed up once Skoda find out why my MAP sensor has went. It's just a waiting game to see what APR have managed to achieve. I'm sure we are all in for a surprise, even a "stage 2" map with the hybrid.

Got to agree with BossFox on his views as well.

WMI is a damn site miore than £200+ when you include installation.

Hurdys installation cost more than an intercooler!!! Your looking at £650-700 depending on hourly rates

So todays most recent purchase to add to the list

impp-1205-16-o+AEM-4-channel-wideband-UEGO-series-2-EMS+okada-project-plasma-direct-coil-packs.jpg

With this engine being so prone to misfires, and the car running at a potential 90-100hp more than stock ive bit the bullet and bought some OKADA Coil packs.

This should with any luck ensure misfires are kept to an absolute minimum if not completely eliminated, and make for a more reliable and efficient engine.

latest update appears to be along the lines of my car comes back from Skoda today or tomorrow after having the new piston rings installed.

APR Calibrators are coming over next week to finalise the map, which with these high output coilpacks should be straight forward. Then VWR have the car for a fortnight for the brakes and coilovers ready for me to pick her up early september.

Hey

I would to know which exact Okada coil pack you used for your car? part/model number at all please?

  • Author

throw them an email mate. I dont have those details to hand

It is probably these "PD4002108R Volkswagen 1.4 TSI"

Thank you for the part number!

vRSy - What is the situation with the DSG 7? Will a DSG software upgrade remove the torque limit and allow 400nm+?

I have been in contact with INA Issam and provided my OAM number, and apparently he is going to hook up with DSG 7 clutch upgrades. I am waiting for his further emails.

  • Author

No need to remove the torque limit mate. Im running 270 lbft(365NM) with no issues IMO, you dont need any more than that. APR bypassed all the previous issues with alterations within the ECU calibration.

Updates:

Current Setup is:

Stage 3 map + Hybrid - Still in the development phase, but i have it on a low boost setup which would allow me to do some trackdays whilst im home for this next week or so. Spent the Afternoon at Silverstone with VWRacing and APR on one of their promotion days, and the amount of people who approached me asking what had been done because they couldn't believe how quick it was.

Okada Coil packs - Not sure if they work tbh. The misfires are still there at high boost, so more mapping work required there, but at my current boost im free of misfires which is good i guess. No power gains noticed though, IMO if people think there have been power gains its purely a placebo.

VWR Intake - Still going strong 1000 miles in to its life. Had a look at the filter and looks clean as a whistle.

VWR Downpipe/centre section - Made the same power as the decat downpipe that was on before, so no power gains achieved over the previous setup, but what a burble!!! Not loud or intrusive(Hate loud exhausts), its essentially removed one silencer from the exhaust and retained the stock back box. The net result = loads of pops on gear change and all sorts!! Well chuffed with it. My decat downpipe is for sale if anyone wants it.

Pace IC/Rad - Still going strong but is to be replaced by a larger intercooler at the end of the month. No reason for this other than APR want to fit theirs, so ill be flogging my Pace setup

Full Superpro bushed suspension - Absolutely phenomenal modification. So much more feel and control in the chassis now.All the guys who have been working on it said they had made a BIG improvement and they aren't wrong.

VWR springs - The Coilovers were late arriving from AST main factory so VWR chucked some springs on the car to tide me over until they are done. Looks to be about a 30 mm drop, but so far impressions are very positive. No crashiness, less body roll and about the right ride height.ill be having the coilovers set to the same height i think.

Tarox 6 Pot 323mm BBK - OMG. Best mod on this car by a long shot. Today i had a racing driver(LE Mans) and a rally driver take my car out on track and both had nothing but complements about the feel of the brakes and how powerful they were. Absolutely over the moon with them, plus they look the absolute nuts. ill get some pictures tomorrow.

Next month should see the coilovers, engine mounts, rear brace, ARBs, intercooler and then finally the finished map.

Spent the afternoon at Silverstone GP circuit. What a day!! VWRacing cars available to be both driven and taxi'd around the track!!, all the while there were race prepared Astons, Ferraris, McLarens, Mercs etc all testing for the upcoming britcar race flying around at the same time. Unbelievable experience to be overtaken at full throttle down the straights by these!!

I had Jonny Cocker take me out in my car, and i was wetting myself with laughter. He was bullying 911 GT2's off of the track into, through and out of the corners, and one thing we noticed is we weren't being dropped down the straights by the lower end Porsches or the higher end BMWs, caterhams etc. Came away a very happy man today, and i dont think ill sell the car now after seeing how well it performed today.

Excellent mate! The car really is coming together now, really impressed! Just wonder what the end figure will be when the maps are sorted etc. should be able to break the 300bhp mark, even if it is just for one run just to say you did it lol!

Salivating!

tbh, this misfire appears when ever boost is turned up and gets worse the more thats added. I cant see APR adding enough boost to hit 300hp if its still there, they are all about reliability, the performance today was surprising. loads of traction and loads of grunt. Had a really good balance today, maybe another 10hp and it will be perfect.

Linear throttle map is required big style though. When the two racing drivers had a go in it, the first thing they commented on was VAG throttle mapping is crap!!

I originally wanted a linear map I asked Keith whether they could do it when they had the car an he was going to ask the calibrators to do it in the states, but I soon back tracked as if say I was in 5th at 30mph then wanted to boot it and gave it 100% throttle the car would more than likely want to drop a gear or 2, so for it to fully work I'd want the kick down removing and also the drop down (don't know what it's called) when you give it beans and don't hit kickdown but the car will drop anyway. But I think to have all that would involve the DSG maps being changed, and if I was to go to all that trouble I'd just buy another manual lol

  • Author

Ive not hit the kick down switch on mine for well over a year. I wouldnt even be bothered about removing it now because i never activate it.

VAg throttle mapping is pump IMO. They do it to make the cars feel faster than they actually are. So when someone test drives the car they are blown away.

Id much rather the throttle act like a cable setup instead personally. TBH, I think since the power has gone up on mine the issue has been exaggerated even more

I'd still like to see you keep it, which you mentioned you might.

You'd have to be mad to go through all of this and then end up with a stock stage 2 or something. :D

It'd be nice to actually get to see the car perform, rather than read a lot of internet stuff but never see it in the metal at Santa Pod/track days.

glad to see youve finally got the car back after waiting so long! good to see the dyno plot in tbe other thread as a good comparision to what stage 1 puts out.

i hope you can get it on the 1/4mile to see whats possible if the car was abusing some high priced machinary on the track haha.

still a concern about the missfires but what else can be done?

Interesting. Know what you mean about VAG throttles they don't feel as nice as cable but still work. The kickdown switch did annoy me at Combe but I put this down to being over enthusiastic after waiting so long and thicker shoes. Drove home barefoot and not a problem. Never had the problem on the road even when being chased by sharkrider over the black mountains.

What is classed as Stage 1, 2 and 3 for this car now? When the time comes I'd be interested in the brakes and suspension bits. Can these be bought from APR now?

Looks like a fun day on the track

Surely its not out of the realms of some clever chap with a laptop of soldering iron to come up with a fix for the throttle , something like a reverse sprintbooster

It'll not be getting much Santa pod days o be honest, its not a relevant performance guide. Ill do a couple runs once the car is 100% complete just to get some figures, but i wont bother again after that. Id still ike to be in the top two of the leaderboard, but im not going to strip mine out to the same extent that the current leader did. It might as well have a cage and all sorts at that point.

Stage 1 is a stock car and requires no additionl mods

stage 2 requires an uprated downpipe(200 cell cat or decat). (an intercooler and intake arent required but would be advisable)

Stage 3 requires downpipe, intake, turbo, intercooler and most importantly sticky tyres.

APR aren't the retailers for the chassis parts. For them you need to speak to VWRacing. The brakes were sourced outside of VWRacing though from Hurdy.

APR produce the engine hardware and software. VWR produce all the chassis products. The whole shebang should be available for purchase in the next month or two.

Its a pretty substantial hie in power over a stage 1, but it really is super smooth.

Regarding the misfires, i know APR have many ideas to try to remove the issue. I'll leave that to them. They wont divulge the solutions anyway as its all trade secrets to them.

its an easy change in the map apparently. They already have linear maps out for the 2.0TFSI engines, Keith@APR prefers the stock VAG throttle mapping so took a little convincing, but after the rally driver(forget his name) tried it, and then told him that it was the only thing letting the car down, Keith then took it out and now agrees that it needs to be changed. Good news for me lol.

The track was awesome. I don't think i managed a single lap without at least one **** up. The worst thing is because loads of the corners flow into the next, if you mess one up your completely out of sync for the next few which is frustrating. Shame i was only there for half a day though as id have loved to see the improvement over an entire day, i had to get the brakes fitted in the morning otherwise i could have done the entire day.
