Fuel efficiency

Featured Replies

Ok just had to do some long distance autoroute stuff to collect from airport etc ad running at 10 - 11pm at speeds up to 104(indicated)mph with prorack aerobars fitted and 2 up got 43.2mph the engine seems to have freed up and runs really well!

Last night off the ferry and up the A34/M40 ran well again with 2 up, a dog a heavy BnO tv and luggage(aerobars still fitted), but as yet not checked mpg - again at up to 100(along with the rest!!)

All using the cheaper Racechip box which for info was billed at £93 using my French paypal acc!

Just picked up our yeti greenline and used two tanks of fuel on motorway mostly we are averaging 53 mpg on motorway stuff at 70 with cruise control which is not the most fuel efficient thing to use.

But around town and bypasses we are 58-60 mpg the greenline seems very efficient under 50 mph but loses a bit over 50-70 mph

But we are expecting to get better mpg once the engine has bedded in

We have been told that can take up to 6000 miles for mpg to plateau

One thing on the colder temps of winter the diesel intercooler works more efficiently at lower temps so will give more power possibly meaning more fuel used to provide the better running.

As this is for 110 models, I will add my figures. Mileage now 4.5k, put in 50 litres, got 550 miles before fuel light came on, using Anzio´s method, I have got 49.9 mpg. Drive is 20 mile commute to work, half back roads, half dual carriageway. I have not noticed any less mpg on the maxidot even when its been cold (last 2 weeks here!)

OK. For anyone with a 168hp diesel version; my average mpg is 42 (measured more accurately than most) with a chip (so now supposedly 218bhp now) and I drive mine hard! Hope that help[s for anyone considering a 170 and/or a chip. Short journeys so far. 500 miles in a day this weekend; will let you know.

Mind you, it is very quick and with 300+mm front brakes.

My unmodified 170 diesel has done 41.74mpg over it's 5012 miles - accurately measured. Mixed motoring - quite a lot of short runs as well as a few longer journeys. Distinct evidence of a sudden significant improvement around the 5000 mile mark when I fitted winter tyres but not sure whether it was tyres or a distinct coincidental loosening up (will find out when summer tyres go back on). On longer A road runs I would think I could now easily get 50mpg+ but have yet to accurately measure such a journey (maxidot = 55mpg+)

My 2wd 110 has averaged just over 45mpg, with the aircon on, over the last 20,000 miles. Measured tank to tank.

Mixture of short and longer journeys.

An easy way to look at mpg is that 45.5 mpg is 10 miles per litre.

Just for information I understand that one is not supposed to use any fuel additives like STP and so on, in the Diesel powered Yeti. Whether performance enhancers or fuel efficiency enhancers or any other, anything of this kind is strictly not recommended. I believe this is because these additives cause the fuel injectors to clog up with some sort of glue-ish substance. Talk about gumming up the works! Given that it is quite an expensive car here in India at least, I for one would not wish to venture into the realms of additives! Any information on this subject, from all you Skoda experts out there would be very welcome indeed!

Have to agree; so no additives or funny fuel for me. The injectors on mine are little beauts. costing £300 each. Not what I intended to spend my M&S vouchers on!
