What an amusing thread :)

I think if you are that bothered find a list of standard MK1's 1/4 mile times and find the average. Do the same for the MK2. A stock MK1 does a 1/4 mile in around 16 secs +/- and a stock MK2 does it in 15 secs +/-

The thing is the later MK1's had a few bhp more but not enough to beat a standard MK2.

I have owned a Seat Ibiza Sport PD130 (ASZ) and a vRS MK1 (BLT) and now own a vRS MK2 (Estate - which we all know is faster  ) so I am not really biased either way - the MK2 does sound better though B)

A mapped MK1 will keep up with a standard MK2. As proved by mattchelski. The End.

But a Lamborghini will beat you all as will my kubota tractor, as will aerial atom, penis's away boys, mines bigger!

A CTR is well into the 16s.

Not that we are talking about that though.

Autocar managed an 8.4 to 60 - who on earth was driving to get that time. Even my girlfriend could get our Fabia into the 7s.

I did a 15.3 and trapped at 92 point something vs autocars 16.5 @ 85.

So bascailly we can rule out their times for a kick off as they are embarassing!!!

In 15 seconds the Mk1 is doing 90, its still pulling really hard at them speeds so has another FOUR seconds to reach 100 and make that 19.

The same 19 seconds as a Polo GTI did as timed by EVO.

All the times are backing up what I'm saying here.

This isn't on topic is it? :giggle:

1/ I would assume that Autocar use the same bit of tarmac/track to do their tests and use proper calibrated speed and distance measuring equipment. Hence, their times are only valid when compared to other cars they've tested.

2/ Even on a drag strip don't imagine it's flat. ISTR there's an allowed 20 feet difference in start/finish heights. So not all drag strips are created equal...

@fred44 (on phone so can't quote)

I thought that first of all. But I'm getting good Mpg and had mine rr twice at different places and both have been mid 140's.

Also my 20-40mph is roughly 2.2 and 30-70 in third is around the 7 mark which most seem to do on here.

@jason - I'm sure a car magazine quoted around 21 seconds for 0-100 times.

Ok, so I'm pretty confused now and might end up having to eat my words here about how fast a standard MK1 is.

I thought I would compare this 30-70 in 3rd. I had a passanger film then we looked at the time taken on the vid.

It took 4.92 and thats with two people. If the above that it usally takes 7 is right, then I etiher have a freak VRS or the previous owner had it mapped.

Can somebody try the 30-70 in 3rd and see if it is indeed more like 7?
