Uniroyal Rainsport 2

Featured Replies

Getting a full set of tyres soon, the ones i have on now are what came with the car (yellowsea :wonder: )

I heard alot of good things about Uniroyal Rainsport 2 tyres and as many people rain is where i lack the most confidence, obviously with the amount of torque these cars produce it just loses grip with the smallest flick of the throttle of any form of surface water.

Anyone else had a set of these? or anything else i should be considering?

Can't comment about them on a heavy Octy, but we've got them on our MX5 and I'm very impressed so far. However how they cope with wet AND cold I'll wait and see

When we had the vRS, I preferred either Toyo T1R or Michelin PS3 both very good in the wet, but none of these will be at their best at this time of year as they need to be above 6c for best traction.

Ten years ago we moved house, spot height of 950ft and up a 1:4 hill from a dead start. Day we were supposed to move in we couldn't get up because of snow & ice. We are at the top of the dead end, so no one digs us out. Ever since then I've fitted a set of winter wheels and tires at this time of year to one of our cars! They are good in more than snow!

iv heard a few people say that Toyo's wear very quikly

i dont want budget tyres but then again i dont want to spending anymore then £100 per corner, i can get a full set of these uniroyals for about £90 per corner and the ratings are good but no one has mentioned on what car they are best

Hi, whilst I haven't ran these tyres on an octy, I have ran them on a hybrid fabia vrs with plenty of torque & would certainly recommend them.

They last well, as you'd expect afford great grip in the wet (and dry) and don't cost the earth.

In my experience, I think it would be difficult to beat these when considering performance, price and value.

Hope this helps.

Yes, 18's. Thanks for that. I've had a local Quote for £130 each for 4 fitted. Can obviously do better! Thanks again.

Uniroyal Rainmasters (Rain sports)

Awesome in the Dry,.........even better in the Wet..emoticon-0156-rain.gifemoticon-0156-rain.gifemoticon-0156-rain.gifemoticon-0156-rain.gifemoticon-0156-rain.gifemoticon-0156-rain.gif More rain, better the grip

I bought them earlier this year for my Furby after reading great reviews on here and other sites. I can't fault them at all. The only problem for me is finding places that sell them (in my size). Camskill never seam to have them in stock. I hope next Easter or Summer they have some.

They replaced a pair of Toyos which weren't too bad. I again bought them as at the time people raved about them. They were not bad and lasted about 14k miles (some people get less than 10k), however they didn't seam to like deep standing water, (I aquaplaned @ 60mph on a sopping wet duel carriageway). :o . They didn't like the snow or Ice (summer tyres don't), but they coped quite well in the cold and frost.

This week my rear tyres (Goodyear GSD3s) were bald and replaced them with pair of Goodyear Winter tyres, Winters on front, Rainsports on rear. I would have thought for you travelling over the Moors, Winter tyres may be a good idea.

Have them on the car great in the wet but find them very "floaty" in the dry when giving it some stick, so next tyres for me are Pilot Sport 3's can get them for £110 fitted locally.

Iv found Camskill to be cheaper then any where else

I had Vrestein Ultrac Sessantas on my remapped MK2 Cupra (around 300bhp) which I had before the vRS (same size tyre as the vRS) and they were excellent in the wet and dry , highly recommended and very popular tyre on Seatcupra.net forums. They are what I'll be fitting when I come to replace mine.

Currently £99 from Camskill so a very good price.

Had the fronts replaced with Rainsport2 on my Octy Vrs (petrol) about three months ago. The tread is the deepest Ive ever seen on a tyre and they feel soft.

Absolutely no doubt they stick to the road like glue, esp. on the motorway - feels like your on rails, but they are very noisey.

Mine are now on the back, with P Zeros on the front after trying to solve a vibration issue. Personally, I would have the fronts replaced with Rainsports when the time comes.

iv heard a few people say that Toyo's wear very quikly

The Toyos do wear very quickly. I've got a set on the front and they've gone from 7mm to 3mm in 7 months of mostly motorway driving. They do grip incredibly well though, but they're made from very soft and sticky rubber.

I have a set of Goodyear Assymetric 2s on mine and they're excellent. Worth a look?

hmm something else to consider! alittle more then i wanted to pay but seeing very good reviews

  • 2 weeks later...

Another one with rainsports on the front. Had them for a couple of months, and am amazed at the grip in the wet, very little understeer under power, and none of the edgey sudden loss of grip on smooth wet tarmac that you can get some tyres. Fine in the dry too, I doubt I'm good enough to be able to benefits from a grippier dry tyre anyway.

I've just had Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 fitted for £540.

Definitely worth looking at as they have won all the recent tyre reviews and for the 2 miles i've driven since fitted they are Fooooking Awesome

I would be driving further but waiting for the car to be collected after some dizzy bint reversed into the car in my Wife's work car park. Apparently she didn't see the big 14ft estate car behind her :(

Ive had the T1r on my Focus RS and fabia VRS for about 18,000 miles before they needed changing and that was nearly all twisty country road driving. Plus in the FRS I wasnt going slow either as that was a proper beast on the twisties.and the tyres lasted. I have now got the Toyo T1 Sport fitted and they are an awesome tyre with dual compound tread for steering and grip when cornering. Before I sold it I had the rainsports fitted to my Fabia but found the tyre wall to be softer than I like and I found it dulled the steering response slightly. Still a fantastic tyre but not to my liking.. To be honest really in the rain it doesnt matter what tyre you go for you must always reduce your speed as even with the rainsports the tyres can lose traction..
