One of the best preparations I've ever seen... Excellent work!

Can I ask how low the car is relative to stock on the new suspension. I'm looking at spacers on my vRS which is sat 40mm lower and I want maximum spacing with out risking fouling on the arches.

This is what we call european suspension.

The most interesting, that the roads actually allows to drive with 7-10 cm road clearance.

There are lots of stupid people who think tthe higher car the better car.... So dealers sell high cars  :wall:

Red fabia isnt my car :)

But mine is high too... so im workin on it.. :)

May be ill post some photos when car is clean :)

I while ago I discovered a great Russian website full of car enthusiasts. There were manufacturer sections and of course there was a Skoda section too. I saw many great Fabias, Octavias etc plus some great photography. Unfortunately I can't remember the address. Anyhow thanx and all the best with your Fabia 0ops, plenty of stuff to see in the forums and get some inspiration for future projects.

I've been very quiet lately - too much stuff going on so haven't had the time to play with the car but I have a check-list and I will try to do all before 2014 hits.

1. Installed a cruise control unit but need to connect it and program it.

2. Must fit the rear UK tail-light I got two months ago through eBay and customize it so I can have two reverse lights.

3. Might play around with the idea of fitting a set of door lights a la Octavia or plain reflectors. Have to decide.

other then that it is raining too much for my liking.  :rain:

So as promised here is some more info and pics about the whole bushes and spacers installation.

At first the idea was to install 11mm spacers up front and 13mm at the back (made by FK).

ngnm.jpg

All was good with installing the spacers up front, perfect fit, but when it came to fit the ones at the back the hub center of the car was clearly deeper than the one found on the spacer.

You will see that the spacer would not go all they way back thus leaving a small gap. Not sure where the problem lies but I will find out after I contact the guys I bought them from and let you know what to look out for.

Front! Yay!

Rear. Nay! :(

So clearly the front and back hub centers of the Fabia don't have the same footprint. Since the car was up and I had to make a decision I was faced with two options.

To either cancel the whole thing until I got myself another set of rear spacers (pffffff) or fit a set of thinner spacers behind the original ones to cover the gap.

I decided to go ahead and since didn't want to spend any more money on this the cheapest solution was a set of old warn out discs, that we cut the centers out (7mm in width and a 5Euro job).

Since 13mm + 7mm would probably be too much for my liking we combined the 11m spacers with the 7mm ones (total 18mm at the rear) and finally fitted the 13mm ones up front.

Yip quite the departure from the initial plan from 11mm/13mm >>>>>> 13mm/18mm!!!

Aaaaaanyways, to be honest i was very skeptical with the final result but I would only know if I drove the car.

In the meantime we had installed the front rear axle bushes and rear axle bushes by Powerflex. It was a straight forward job with no surprises but removing the original rear axle bushes was a pain.

There are kits out there for changing all bushes on the car but I opted for only the front and rear ones. It wasn't a matter of money just that I wasn't convinced that the rest would make a difference to the car's handling.

After completing the installation took the car for a drive in the city and out in the motorway plus some good twisty roads we got around the area.

The first thing that was very noticeable was the far less body roll through corners. I had addressed the issue with a set of H&R coilovers and rear ARB but spacers+bushes helped even more and I noticed that I was able to go through certain corners that I know very well in higher speeds. There is a feel that the car is more planted which in turn gives you the confidence to push it further and it does pay of.

The suspension feels softer over bumps which to be honest is a welcome side effect and the steering wheel is slightly heavier. It is very evident when accelerating but I don't mind it. No vibrations, no steering wheel shake no nothing which was a load off.

Only negative, but expected, was some fender scrapping on the inside. It happened when I was speeding over a certain part of the highway that I know has a gradual bump and then a sudden drop.

When the car landed clearly the front wheels touched the plastic inside which means that under certain conditions there will be rubbing. I will live with it for now but I don't think it will be a big problem in the future. (fingers crossed).

Best thing about the whole thing... looks. Car seems wider, beefier so aesthetically it is a big thumbs up and overall for the time being I'm loving it. :)

Might be a stupid question but what or why or where did you fit your Bushes and what are they for...?

The bushes improve handling. Great improvement over stock and worths every penny. No easy job to replace them you will need a mech to do it for you.

Thank you...i guess this mod isn't too expensive...:) ???

vRSy had a good deal for £80 - 90mins labour for the whole car - but mind you he replaced every single bush on the car.

£80.00 for the parts plus money for 90 mins labour...? I have checked awesome GTI site today and all bushes they recommended for my car wold cost me over £200 in total. I had a live chat with Mike and that's what he said to replace if I want to do it. Which ones did you replace...? Thanks. Matty

polybushing is on my list of things to do on my project thread slotty, tightens everything up, a good mod by all accounts :)

My problem is I know **ck all about the cars and not sure wait to buy, where from and even worse...how to fit it which means high labour bills for me ;(

BTW....32kofdata...I love your car. Wish my looked the same....!!!

Thanx man :) I only replaced the front rear axle bushes and rear axle bushes. You could go crazy and get the whole kit but it was decided that the rest wouldn't make a big difference or at least one that I would benefit from, keep in mind that you and I and the rest of us use the car as our daily driver and once or twice a year at the race track (if possible) so if money is an issue buy the "essentials".

BTW....32kofdata...I love your car. Wish my looked the same....!!!

Really like your reply...also thanks for letting me know what you replaced and I'll bear that in mind...:)

32KOFDATA...Do you mind me asking how much did you pay for your spacers, ARB and the bushses you mentioned in your post to me...

Cheers, Matty
