What to look for when buying a vRS 2l Petrol?

Featured Replies

at that mileage, make sure its had the major service, that includes Timing Belt

Looks like a pretty good price actually, but as Daz said the cam belt change is (I think, seems to keep changing every thread I read) 4 years or 60k miles so should have been done - if not, factor in £400 ish on top or use it as a bargaining tool emoticon-0148-yes.gif

For reference the one I just traded in is a year newer with almost identical mileage and is up for £8k.

At 57k?? The belt VW recommend 120k for this engine. I changed mine at 106k though.

Yeah ask for them to change the belt if it needs doing the change is 120K or 4 years so it may have been done in 2010 other than that the only other thing id check is the operation of the bonnet handle as these snap off and the mechanism on the bonnet stiffens up. So not much to look for really! Great cars!

Definately make sure cambelt has been done mine is 06 done just over 50k when purchased and had cambelt by prev owner, also if irritating rumbling noise from the back of the car will need 2 new tyres and wheel alignment check, otherwise cracking cars great performance and mpg , if you're prepared to travel there's some well spec'd ones on autotrader.

Evening all.

I'm going viewing an 06 plate Octavia vRS 2.0l T FSI on Saturday and am wondering what to look for when Test driving Etc

Gatsos

Talivans

etc

:(

Make sure the ESP light comes on when your switch it off. Teeves ABS fault will make it light and allegedly some dealers have just been removing the bulb rather than fixing it. That about £350 to fix I think.

Make sure the cruise control works if it has it, the contacts in the switch get gunky. 5 min to fix with a cotton bud but a good haggling point, Skoda charge £70 for a new stalk if you go to them.

Water in the rear wheel well.

Cam belt is every 4yr as said.

Other than that in general they seem to be pretty solid. Mine is an 07 and I've had if from new with no significant issues.

Bit dear I'd say, you can get an 07 for that or a main dealer with the Skoda warranty -

Just something that stood out to me. It may be the preference of the previous owner or a cheap repair job but why is it debadged?

Also check the car as had the Coilpack re-call takes them 2mins to check on the computer and not too long too fit and its Free

Brilliant response guys, Thanks very much for all the advice. All jotted down ready for my weekend visit!

I hadn't notice that it had been de-badged. Makes it easier to machine polish (I'm a car detailing geek) but must admit it doesn't appeal to me and makes me wonder who owned it last or, as said, if it has had repair work done! Good spot!

Was there a re-call on the MK2 TFSI? I thought it was just the MK1.

Yes mate the re-call on the coilpacks included mine and my mates both 06 plate vRS petrol Tfsi , i actually heard about it on Briskoda another great post by some members ,worth giving ya local dealer a ring and ask them

The best colour to have one in. Looks a good example.

Mines an 07 just got it in August ill give them a ring tomorrow. Cheers mate :-)

Yes there is a recall on coilpacks for m2 , it was my topic that flagged it up, quote . 28F7 re-call ,to your dealer  As most people have posted up most points, it has got 18s rather than 17 and jumbo box , dual climate and electric rears, ( all extras for that reg at the time) It has not got cruise but otherwise looks good

Same car emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Doh, dunno why I thought the price was higher. It was a long day.

Anyway, trade in for an 07 will be about £5300 to give an idea.

Well, went to view the vRS at Wings skoda in Peterborough.

The car is mechanically sound, the Cambelt and Water Pump would be done before it was given to the buyer. There were a few cons though.

The exterior condition of the car was very poor indeed! There were 100's of stone chips on the front, scratches all over the car and polish residue in all the nooks and crannies. The service book and owners manual looks like it had been thrown in a swimming pool and, the reason I did not buy it, they only offered me £1000 for my Mazda 6. I could tell they weren't interested in a part ex, which is a shame from my point of view (and theirs I guess). They were concentrating on getting monthly payments down but I'm more interested in how much I will pay in total for the car.

So the search will go on, hopefully with better offers for my Mazda in Px.

There was a lovely viper green vRS 2.0 CR TDI in there, brand new for just over £18k! Pretty gpood bargain, looked ace, although I'm sure it's not to everyones taste.

Thanks again for the info guys

Kind regards,

Neil

Keep looking, there will be far better examples out there.
