This forum seems to be dominated by vRS owners (including me  )

But to what percentage? And why didt you buy a vRS?!

    And I counter your 8 with a wider spread of 8 for my family................... 1968 1000 MB, 1972 S1100L, 1999 Feli 1.9D, 2 x 2000 Feli LXi's, 2003 Fabia 1.4Mpi Silverline, 2002 Octy Vrs, 2002 Octy

Truth be told - I got a Skoda Fabia vRS when I was 17/18.... It was sporty looking car with a big (ish) engine that I could get insurance on. Moved on when all the tools and chavs started getting them.

Had to get a new automatic car. Knee injury doesn't allow me to drive a manual.

Tested a fair few 'autos' but the VRS added up to the best all rounder for me.

I've had four vRSes (3 Fabia Mk1 vRS and one Mk2 vRS petrol).

This time I wanted the size of the Octy, a diesel but didn't fancy the PD170 and particularly not the DPF. The CR was out of budget, so I went for a PD140 Elegance instead....

Got a L&K 1.8 TSI DSG.

Had been driving a TSI VRS for 6 months but looked at the specs and since I often do a thousand miles a week the 1.8 TSI L&K DSG sounded the better option.

- Acceleration only half a second slow to 62 mph and same as old 1.8T VRS

- Fuel consumtpion 5 mpg better ie 60 miles further per tank

- More extras ie curtain airbags, electic movement and heated seats.

- Better auto box with then newer 7 speed. (cheaper to run as no 40K oil changes)

- Xenon adaptive headlights

and many more items but yes the suspension is a little softer and body rolls when going for it.

Personally I do not thing the diesel VRS's performance justifies the VRS badge but saying that I might get one in the next few weeks as my L&K has done nearly 50K miles in 15 months and with the speed limit going up to 80/90 mph then it probably makes more sense although I wish Skoda used the V6 diesel with just over the 200 hp as that would be a proper VRS league performance.

I've had x4 Skoda's since 2005

mk1 octavia vrs

mk1 fabia vrs

mk1 octavia elegance

mk2 octavia elegance

For me the Elegance offered better value for money than the vRS, I wanted something different and over the years I've noticed more and more vRS badge snobbery

L&K and feckin' proud.

Well for me its my company car and as such the VRS is out of my budget.

In the last 10 years I have had a Honda Civic a BMW 118D and 4 Octavias.

My current Octavia is a 1.8TSi Elegance and to be honest it suits me well.

It has everything I need and is fast to boot not much slower than a VRS.

I dont knoe if the VRS would be as good to be honest with the miles I do.

I think the seats would get uncomfotable after a while and I do 2-300 miles a day.

Soon to be replaced with probably another but maybe a 1.6 TDi due to budget cuts.

On my second vRS...

Had a MK1 Fabia and now on the MK2, Both in vRS spec

No option for both?

Got a highly tuned VRS, a Yeti and a Fabia Greenline. Soon to be the VRS and two Yeti Elegances... :)

I believe the higher proportion of VRS users on here is that they are more often bought by enthusiasts.

Your average Skoda driver wants a reliable car to potter about in, seeking out other enthusiasts on the web does not interest them.

I'm not saying you need to have a VRS to be enthusiastic about Skodas, I am talking about the average person driving a certain type of car.

Quite a few only find this place because they get a fault and look up their car on google etc...

I agree with Boss Fox.

I drive a fabia mk 1 1.9tdi elegance with- cruise, heated seats, 16" skoda alloys, parking sensors! The mpg is amazing with my milage constantly getting a good 60mpg and it's still pretty quick.

The site was started in 2004 by a group of (mainly) VRS owners.

Most people with a Skoda won't even bother to see if there's a Skoda owners forum on the internet but as BossFox pointed out VRS owners are more likely to get online and try to find more info out about their car.

My intention was to buy a Mk1 Fabia VRS back in 2007 as I'd driven my bosses Mk4 Golf with a PD150 engine so wanted a powerful but economical 1.9 TDi in the cheapest VAG car available. The Fabias were still well out of my price range though, but the dealership offered me a Mk1 Octavia VRS at a good price. I knew the 1.8T engine was good (had wanted a Leon Cupra R for a couple of years) but I'd never appreciated how economical it could be, so that sealed the deal.

I'd be quite happy with whatever Skoda I have next, whether it's a VRS model or not.

Skoda's have been in my blood since the early 70's. Had a Feli & Fabia which were both good cars but always wanted a yellow Mk1 vRS since the first day I saw one. (As a matter of interest, I was in Prauge when the Czech media were doing the photo shoot for the launch of the original Octy on the banks of the river by St Andrews bridge), I need an estate car for work & after falling in love with the ergonomics in the vRS of the Mk1 I decided to get the best spec Mk1 estate I could afford. Hence the L&K with its heated seats & cruise etc. It can achieve 65mpg on a Motorway run but it hasn't been reliable at all, it was riddled with faults when I got it & I've been throwing money at it ever since!

I have a vRS. I always wanted one and I felt like I was too young for an L&K. I think there are more vRS owners though because they tend to be more enthusiastic - as BossFox says.

For example my mum, sister and in-laws all drive Skoda's but they couldn't care less about retro-fitting cruise control for example; as long as it starts for them in the morning they don't care.

I've had a Mk1 Fabia vRS and two Mk1 Octavia vRS's...

First one bought new because my naive young self thought it was quick, and I didn't want to keep filling my Lupo Sport up every 3 days (doing 25-30k a year at that point). Part-ex'd it for a Mk1 Octavia vRS and loved it - was actually quick rather than feeling quick, had a rev-range... still doing 30k a year, but damn the expense!

If I just wanted "a car" I'd have something else.

I had a Mk I Octavia vRS for 5 years until last July.

I loved her but in that time I picked up 3 speeding tickets, and at 125,000+ miles the old girl was starting to need serious money spent on her (cambelt, rear disks & pads, clutch showing signs of starting to slip)

Also SWMBO hated the ride and moaned about it being toooooo hard.

I do about 20,000 miles p.a. and the fuel consumption was getting a bit expensive.

I only took her in to the dealers to check out the coil pack replacement scheme, and whilst waiting spotted a newish but high mileage Superb for a decent price on the forecourt. Got the keys, took a drive and SWMBO swore it was the best car ever. After haggling got it for £1,000 less than asking, plus various bits sorted out.

I've worked out that in the last 6 months I've saved around £500 over the running costs of the vRS and for longish M'way cruising the Superb is much more comfortable and relaxing.

I still miss the vRS though. I'd have a Mk II tomorrow if one came at the right price (and I could have it de-badged before SWMBO saw it :giggle:
