How about this behind your Yeti?

Featured Replies

How about THIS to tow behind your Yeti - New from Hobby Caravans The Premier, two or three of the smaller single axle ones could legally be towed by a 140/170 CRI Yeti.

Saw them at The Manchester show and was most impressed by the interior too, but the dark windows and 'piano black' panels between the windows are pure 'Yeti'

They make a good van, but they aren't very popular in this country, possibly because they don't seem to have a big dealer network. Like our Adria they seem to put some of the UK manufacturers to shame with the standard of build and equipment.

Caravans!!!!Blow them all up!!

Agree totally they are the devil I grew up in Cornwall and was constantly stuck in traffic because some idiot has jacknifed, rolled, jammed, broke etc etc there caravan across two lanes of single carriageway.

Should be like jersey caravans are only allowed with a permit and only one journey to the campsite and one from the site and most of these journeys are usually recommended at night.

Yikes those things are WIDE........... there is alas only one type of person in this country that use caravans of this size and width and one and all they nearly all drive Transits and never put the tent part of the van up or use official caravan sites. I say no more. Had I been into caravans (I'm not but I'm not adverse to them) I'd not want to be seen dead near anything looking like these.

It also seems to be that the moans about caravans always come from people reliving their youth in the 1950s when 50hp cars struggled with vans up hills. When is the last time someone got stuck behind a van towed by a modern car up a hill at 30mph?!?! I've driven hundreds of thousands of miles in the UK and can honestly say in the last 10 to 15 years I've NEVER been stuck behind a caravan. Your own car also does not have just 50hp anymore so overtaking them is also really not that difficult these days.

Well, lest we forget, a car pulling a caravan is subject to a 50 mph speed limit on a single carriageway, so regardless of the power-to-weight ratio, there's always a chance of being stuck behind someone who likes to obey the law. When this road is a twisty, hedge-lined road, the chances of getting past are zero.

I certainly have been caught behind towing vehicles in the recent past, usually in the classically touristic parts of the country (where these things seem to breed). I wouldn't say "stuck" as I am patient enough to just wait my time and get past if the opportunity arises.

Oh dear no!!!!! I have a trailer to fit my tents in and that is all I'd want to tow. My central lounge tent is 4x4 meters with standing room to which I can attach three individual sleeping pods of 3x3 meters each in which you can also stand. So my tented palace is far preferable to the Barbie Doll Toy caravan in that photo. :giggle: No thanks.

Well, if it's headroom you are worried about... :):)

Alas I need space too... as my 43 square meters in total proves........ You'd have to get a pretty huge caravan to give me 43 sqm of floor space AND headroom. :giggle:

Caravans - if I may quote the Inbetweeners:

Will: Sorry, did you say you go away on holiday in a caravan?

Jay: With the caravan club.

Will: In a caravan, like a gypo? If my mum told me we were going caravaning, I'd call Child Line.

Jay: Shows how much you know. It's a sense of freedom that you don't get with other holidays.

Will: It's a sense of sh*tting in a bucket in a cupboard you don't get with other holidays.

I bet you could buy a small house for the price of that Hobby caravan. I have just got an old caravan for the price of a bottle of gin so you can imagine it looks nothing like that one!! Hobby caravans are usually for the European market (or travelling commnity) as the doors are on the opposite side from British made ones. So if you parked up in a layby at the side of the road you would have to be careful not to be knocked down by passing traffic!

Sounds better than my house... :)

And mine...

Had a good look at the new Hobbys at the Glasgow show ... not for me. Ugly inside and not sure of the outside either.

I'll stick to my lovely new Sterling Cruach, pictured here last Friday arriving at Edinburgh Caravan Club site behind my current Octavia but as of 1 March will be behind a Yeti!

As for the anti caravanners, get over it, you don't know what you are missing!

Sorry but not exactly something you pull behind a car. It is designed as such to be built off site and be delivered easily to a permanent address for all intents and purposes. It might be called a "caravan" but a true caravan it is not.

As for the anti caravanners, get over it, you don't know what you are missing!

I'm sure a decent van is a civilised place to be-The days of foul embossed upholstery and flimsy obviously fake veneer are no doubt just a folk memory as are chemical loos and feeble mini stoves.

I regularly drive to north Norfolk involving about 60% single carriageway roads.People who cannot keep up a civilised pace often allow 12-15 car queues to build up behind them.

During the summer season I surely do know what I am forced not to miss unless I travel in the middle of the night.

There have been some stylish vans-Airstream come to mind but if they wish to share the public highway I wish they were required to be able to travel without causing congestion.

I'm with Clarkson on caravans... use them as darts or set them on fire. Hate the things, being in one is just as bad as being stuck behind one!

Good job I have a car that has no tow bar option

I just take Clarkson for what he is an entertainer and years ago I would not have a tow bar on any car I had.

However two kids later and I changed my outlook and broadened my horizons bought a caravan.

Best holidays ever and weekends away so don't knock it till you've tried it. B)

Last time we took the caravan to our daughter's in Cornwall, we got held up on the A30 by either all the arics doing 45, or lots of grannies in Volvos with black and white crossed flags on them!

Yikes those things are WIDE...........

You can now legally tow up to 2.33 mtrs wide with a private car - no longer restricted to commercial vehicles

It also seems to be that the moans about caravans always come from people reliving their youth in the 1950s when 50hp cars struggled with vans up hills. When is the last time someone got stuck behind a van towed by a modern car up a hill at 30mph?!?!

My caravan (Yeti towed of course) flies up hills - the big problem is the HGVs who are legally limited to 40 MPH, that and the flat white cap brigade, I'm the one who often passes you... and the Yeti has the power to do it...

Out of curiousity - how much?

Three smallest ones (single axle) £18975, £19975, £19875

Well, lest we forget, a car pulling a caravan is subject to a 50 mph speed limit on a single carriageway, so regardless of the power-to-weight ratio, there's always a chance of being stuck behind someone who likes to obey the law. When this road is a twisty, hedge-lined road, the chances of getting past are zero.

Especially if there is a 40mph restricted HGV in front!!

I certainly have been caught behind towing vehicles in the recent past, usually in the classically touristic parts of the country (where these things seem to breed). I wouldn't say "stuck" as I am patient enough to just wait my time and get past if the opportunity arises.

Biggest problem is the tailgaters, they can't see far enough round you to see ahead, I always leave lots of space so other road users can overtake safely, problem is when I want to overtake (and can easily in a lot of cases) I need a gap of at least 20 metres to get in safely, and it's often not there, so I can't overtake

I bet you could buy a small house for the price of that Hobby caravan. I have just got an old caravan for the price of a bottle of gin so you can imagine it looks nothing like that one!!

Tell me where you can buy houses for that price ? It would be worth investing for buy to let !!

People who cannot keep up a civilised pace often allow 12-15 car queues to build up behind them.........

There have been some stylish vans-Airstream come to mind but if they wish to share the public highway I wish they were required to be able to travel without causing congestion.

The problem with towing a caravan is the people who hold you up, it takes a little longer time to build up speed, but we can bowl along with the best of them, but when you come up against the person 'Who often allow 12-15 car queues to build up behind them'........ you're stuffed, so the next one behind you just blames the caravan.

A journey from home to say Dover (260+ Miles) only takes me about 45mins longer with the caravan than solo, and it's mainly because I can't use the outside lane of the motorway and keep getting stuck behind overtaking trucks or middle lane hoggers

However the original point of the posting was to point out the similarities in design between the New Hobby Premier range and The Yeti - isn't it wonderful how the mention of a caravan on a car enthusiasts site stirs everybody up!!!

Couldn't have said it better myself Mr Millstone! Respect! Oh and happy caravanning.
