  • Picking my vRS up on saturday too. TSi DSG in white. I feel like a kid on xmas eve

  • Driving mine since 2 days only but i already love it! Especially compared to my previous 1.9TDI 105cv.. I would never turn off the car

loose that dealer sticker!

loose that dealer sticker!

+1 :giggle:

Front parking sensors too - thats a rare option.

Looking good!

Very nice :)

You guys are eagle eyed! Will ditch the sticker pronto!

PDC- just went for both really. Am sure the fronts are not much use but all my accidents have been minor scrapes in the past. So live and learn etc!

But few initial impressions/ comments:

1. Read a lot of discussion about 'breaking in' the engine and how it's not truly required in modern engines. The owners manual does actually recommend not exceeding 75% of max revs for first 1000 Kms and then some more for next 500

2. Similarly, people have talked about engine operating temp and how not to rev engine till oil is at optimum temp. That is sensible advice but I think the needle is misleading. It climbs to 90deg in no time yet on maxi dot you can see that oil temp reaches 90deg much later (15 miles later today for me) and then even when it was 108deg the needle still pointed at 90. So if you don't have maxi dot and rely on the instrument needle to nail the engine when it reaches 90, you may be harming the engine. On short commutes that's a no-no!

3. I know it's no comparison but I'm coming back to petrol after 3 years of having a diesel (freelander2, previously BMW 535M sport) and I love it. Engine is refined and smooth and punchy. Haven't let it loose yet but had no trouble keeping up with an Audi A5 3 lit TDI today. This was mid range pick up where diesels are traditionally strong

4. Love the interior. Fit and finish is excellent and quality is premium. This is my first new car so that must have a bearing but am smiling!

5. Bolero. Before I ordered the car always thought would replace it straight away with a sat nav HU. Didn't order it as Columbus was way too pricey(almost 10% cost of car!!). But to me it sounds great and combined with maxidot, SD card reader and 6CD changer I think I could live with it. But will need Bluetooth.

So petrol no satnav and DSG- for my money the right spec to go for. And Briskoda too!

Re points 1&2.

The needle is the coolant temp, not the oil temp, this should never exceed more than 90c. The oil is the one you need to look at. Once this is past 80c you can open her up through the gears up to the red line. This helps bed the piston rings in better and improves power and decreases oil consumption.

This is what i did with mine and it has used 500ml of oil over 26k besides a service at 18k.

The recommendation is to not go beyond 75% max permissible rev in any gear for first 1000 Kms and then for next 500 do exactly what you say. That equates to about 4750 rpm. Did you do that too?

And thanks for correcting me about the oil vs coolant temp. One more reason to have maxidot!

I find the performance great even though not exceeded 4000rpm. Wonder what I'll feel when I redline it!

Happy motoring ahead??

No, i totally ignored that once the engine was warm. Drive it normally and give it the odd thrash, it will do it the world of good....i think my 0-60 figures speak for themselves!

Thanks for that. Will do same. Your 0-60 figures are for a stock diesel?

Yes thats right, totally stock.....just DSG and Launch control to help it along :D

That's way better than the claimed figure. Even petrol claimed figure is 7.2s. How does one use launch control. Can't wait to try mine!

I hope I do bed the pistons in properly - already loving the engine!

Yes, well impressed - i can only assume they don't use LC when testing the cars. That was tested at the sprint at GTI International last year with over half a tank, a boot full of stuff and a concrete (not the best for traction!) runway.

To use LC:

Left Foot on brake

ESP off

Gear selector into sport

At this point you should be able to floor the gas freely to 3k where it will sit until you release the brake. If it tries to pull or you can feel strain, stop, it hasn't worked.

Would advise using it too often though as i am sure it can't be great for the clutch pack! I have probably used it 10-15 times in 2 years with no ill effects (usually when i have to prove a point at the old traffic light grand prix :giggle: )

What 0 60 times will you get?

I have just sold my pride and joy renault megane 250 for a petrol vrs estate, because of family reasons,

That was so fast,,,,,,,,,,

I would have thought 6secs easily acheivable on a petrol DSG.

That fast????

I thought it was standard 7.2???

A 250 is sub 6, especially a re mapped one!!!!

It is but my diesel is 6.9 against a figure of 8.4 or something so with Launch Control you get a perfect start everytime which they obviously didn't measure the 0-60's with on the official figures.

Well I never!!!!!

Thank you, at least I know now

I must admit my days of flat out racing now gone in my estate!!!!

Is a vrs though!!! You made up with yours??

An estate makes it better, as they will automatically think they can beat you!

Made up with mine....puts a smile on my face everytime i drive it and still get around 50mpg!

Ha ha true I intend get mine re mapped as soon as possible!!!!

I looked at mpg saving but I am not into that!!!

Petrol power please!!! I was going to get a superb 3.6 v6 till I saw the road tax!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best I have so far on my petrol dsg vrs hatch is 5.96 timed off the odb port. It is sporting a bluefin stage 1 remap but needs new fronts which will help shave a few 10ths off that.

Under 6???????

I am shocked!! In a good way but did not think it would do sub 6,,

I am lookin forward to gettin mine be sad to loose the rs

Back on topic.....

Liking the black interior trim and whilst I'm tempted to say "oh look (yet) another blue one", it's very nice.

Empty fuel tank, just the driver, a good dry surface, use launch control and with a good remap it will. It is a seriously good motor. (it's also been run in er properly I believe ;) )

Ha ha no sorry it will be brand new,,, all for me to play with!!!

Only thing is outside parking, I need an excellent car cover, any ideas??

Be happy as I am... totally.
