I've know people go straight from 1xxx firmware to 4xxx firmware with no issue. Although I don't guarantee it will work every time on every unit.

If you want to go to 3xxx first then try 37xx.

And 4020 does support three partitions and the new POI format & 7-digit postcodes.

  • The way the firmware work are (they are in order of release ignore the no's as a higher no. doesn't necessarily mean a newer firmware) 1004 - Original Firmware 1024 0904 - From here down is A &a

  • Skoda has more than one revision D equivalent: 1Z0 035 680 A - hardware C3/C4A which is called revision A. Latest official firmware is 1024, unofficial - 2684, modified - 3814 3T0 035 680 - hardware

  • Yes they do work. I got a cheaper deal with vw on updating mine than Skoda offered me!!

Updated the firmware successfully.

It asked me to insert the maps dvd which I did.

Can see the maps and POIs fine and navigate but it is reading from the dvd, never have me the option to copy the maps on the HD. How can I do that please?

Anyone in the Midlands that can let me borrow v9 of the map DVD please?

That would be illegal as they are copyrighted software! Its not like the firmware that is freely available.

It was on my columbus and I deleted it by upgrading the firmware so I do have the copyright to own it I presume.

Is it not like having bought a PC with windows pre installed and borrowing a disk to reinstall it if you have lost yours?

No, the disk become tied to the car.

So if I did not get a disk with it what am I supposed to do? Go to skoda?

The license is to instal on one unit (if you have a disk) only.

Yes, go to Skoda if you want to stay legal. Or buy one from a legitimate source.

I'm not up on Windows, but Apple don't provide OS on disk anymore but via Internet recovery which ensures no copying of copyrighted software.

Any suggestions where I can buy one?

The dealer!

I called them and they said they do not have it and cannot order one as since last year they were only supplied with the new cars.

They pointed me to a website I could use but it did not have discs for Columbus, only SD cards for the lower spec models...

I am now officially stuck.

What was the website they sent you to?

This all seems rather odd as there are a fair few people who have had maps updated by the dealer for a fee, or in some cases free.

The dealer I bought the car from told me to order it online from a website (can PM the name to you as I do not want to seem like I am advertising it)

I was told that they do not have the DVD. Maybe they are telling the truth, maybe they just do not want to update my NAV, I do not know, I just go with what they tell me.

The official Navteq site you can download maps.

That is for mk3 Octavias though.

I might as well buy a tom tom, had enough I think with the columbus.

Thanks to everyone that tried to help.

Have you spoken to the service department at your local dealer, they should be able to load the Maps for you, will probably charge a fee though. Plenty of people have had their local dealer re-install or update the maps on their SatNav.

The Maps are out there on the net if you search for them, although they won't be legal downloads - that is up to you and in light of the Forum rules no-one will condone or provide links to illegal downloads.

I spoke to both dealers close by. Both said that they do not have a dvd.

You could also try your local VW dealers as the maps are the same between the VAG range for the RNS510 (Columbus)

The closest one is the same company for both VW and skoda (albeit in different premises). Will give them a call

Quote from the local VW master technician:

"Skoda navigation systems are different than VW ones and our software will not work"

Shows what limited knowledge he has then :wall: . Ask them if they have the latest map disk and show him that it works.

I'm sure that the same map/software DVD (and maybe also the firmware) is used by VW/Skoda/Seat/etc. and the exact variant required is selected at installation time using the fourth digit in the code level ('4' for Skoda).

Also, I doubt that a DVD comes with every car received by the main dealer, rather, they have one multi-license DVD that they use for map installation on the PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspection).

Main dealers (and maybe other Skoda service agents) also use an on-line tool called ELSA connected to the vehicle to check what firmware/software is outstanding and can install it without a DVD. So don't expect a DVD with your car, I know a few people have had them but most people wouldn't know what to do with it anyway and would return to their dealer at the slightest hiccup.

Finally, if you're getting stupid answers to Columbus upgrade queries at your usual dealer I suggest you go elsewhere!

  • 1 month later...

I have 3T0 035 680 unit, firmware 3894 loaded. I want to upgrade the firmware now. Can i upgrade to 4120 firmware?

402x (which is not much different to 398x) is probably as far as you can go with that unit. I believe 4120 and above are really only for newer units.
