How accurate is the mpg display?

Featured Replies

Just driving back from halfords in the new vRS and its showing an average of 71mpg for the journey.

How accurate is this device usually?

Thanks

Seems to depend on the age. My 2003 one is bang on (actually a tiny bit pessimistic) but my mates 2007 SE massively over reads, as does a fair few on here.

My '07 has been within a few percent when manually checked.

Mines ridiculous, can get over 100 mpg on a trip.

My last fill up showed an trip average of 44.7mpg, actual was 47.2mpg

Think 71 is a little optimistic then.

Will fill up and check properly next time.

Can anyone recommend a good website for logging fuel consumption?

My 04 Furby is not to bad . Tells me it's about 49.7 .Quick calculaion on a tenner of diesel puts it at 45-50 MPG.

Bang on with mine more or less. Each journey I do says high 40's to low 50's and when i fill the car up it I'm always getting about 49-52mpg. Mines a 2005 asz engine.

My 2002 is about 2MPG over optimistic, however my "new" 2003 Estate is spot on :sun:

My 06 vrs said 93mpg after my 30 mile trip home from work yesterday. I was t aking it easy but of course its no where near real life figures!

>10 mpg over optimistic on a '07 Fabia vRS. The Mk2 Octavia is only a couple of mpg over optimistic normally.

I could be wrong but I seem to remember reading something about altering the correction factor when doing the research on a MK5 Golf some years back, I believe it was done using VCDS but that was 5 years ago.

I think I've read elsewhere on Briskoda that the Fabia VRS SE computer is woefully out on mpg readouts, something about Skoda inputting the wrong conversion from L/100km to mpg? But I think each individual car varies anyway. The correction factor thing is doable through VCDS.

My 06 plate over reads by about 4-5 mpg so about 10% optimistic.

I've got an 05 remapped and it say 65 if I let it run @ 15 grand but if I let it run @ a grand it says 100mpg dunno how true this is but I know if I toke the gas pedal @ 2 grand it reads 22mpg this is true because I can see the needle dropping on the dash lol

I'm guessing that's the "instant mpg" though? We're talking the average one.

Whilst the average MPG on mine is not too bad, once it gets into the reserve tank, the miles left rockets downward .

Just got first reading from fuelly and it seems mine is 13mpg out. Managed 45mpg.

Mine is pretty much spot on.

Trip back up from Somerset at the weekend. 70mph all the way on cruise control.

This is what it showed on the dash.

This is what it actually worked out to be. This is after a bit of town driving after taking that picture.

Hey can some one tell me how to correct the fuel reading via VCDS?

I think I've read elsewhere on Briskoda that the Fabia VRS SE computer is woefully out on mpg readouts, something about Skoda inputting the wrong conversion from L/100km to mpg? But I think each individual car varies anyway. The correction factor thing is doable through VCDS.

My 2004vRS was pretty accurate - mpg was about 2/3 out. However my 2007vRS is atrocious - around 22-25% out when checked against top-ups. I presume this affects all with the BLT engine.

I complained in writing to the dealer about my 2007vRS after buying it and was assured by them after they'd checked with Skoda that it is impossible to adjust a Fabia. I agree you can alter the Octavia but apparently not the Fabia. It anyone has successfully adjusted a late Mark 1 vRS, please advise.

i always calculate actual mpg to compare with the computer and its only a maximum of 2mpg out on 04 vrs.

Here's the first 7500 miles in my 2004vRS - check out the "dif" column
