Horrible wet bank holiday

Recommended Posts

Probably picking mine up next week now. Longdog is getting his today.

To the above question regarding the 4 cars

1) octy VRS 2.0TSI

2) S4 ;-)

3) Aventador

4) the transit van that the top gear lads put the crazy jag engine in. Think it was the XFR 5.0 supercharged.

Ah, well I was getting it today but as of yesterday it was still sat at the port awaiting consignment so unless they can get if for me tomorrow it'll have to wait until 1st May when I get back from work again. Never mind.

Andy, welcome this is a great forum with a great bunch. Always had a soft spot for the Alfa GTV and a mate of mine had a dolomite sprint when I was at school - it was Yellow and a scream!

Fascinating thread and a real test of memory!

After various motor bikes

Ford sit up and beg Prefect - cost me £12 (from a friend) but worth about 12p

Fiat 600 in Abarth 750 form

a basic original 850 cc Mini (well they were all the rage in 1966)...friend wrote it off so.....

Minivan.......then qualified and had some real money at last..................

Ford Escort Mk. 1 GT Superspeed 1600 [replaced original 1300 engine] (I lived near their location in Ilford)

Then Ford Lotus Escort Superspeed 3 litre V6 (Capri engine etc.) very nice conversion, gave a lot of then sports cars a big shock, 0-60 faster than E Type

Same again but in what had been an RS1600

Cortina Mk. 3 GT 2 dr. .......... a type of car where rear quarter-light windows fell out !!

Cortina Mk. 3 2000 4 dr. (Can't remember what the model was called but I think it was top of that particular range) Oh yeah, a 2000E

Car was so cr*ppy (rusting to bits within 6 months from new) that I changed to Vauxhall.

Cavalier Mk. 1 1900cc followed by three 2 litre versions, then a Mk. 2 Opel Manta, then back to later Cavaliers ending up with the last model of SRi.

Nice car for an 8 valve engine

Then 'orrible looking Vectra came out so.............

Rover Coupe 2 litre followed by same in 1.8 VVT type engine. The latter was very bad build quality from new, so....

Nissan Primera GT nice car but then they became the 'orrible Renault type shape so

First Skoda Octavia Mk. 1 vRS - oh joy!

Mk. 2 2.0 FSi okay but

Current car 1.8 TSi hatch best of all.

Hi Andy welcome mate

Have you had the washing equipment out yet ?? How do you find your new skoda??

Andy

Thanks Andy, not had a chance to spruce it up yet, because we have had a bit of rain here in the "Sarth" (not enough to stop the hosepipe ban though. I will be giving it a good wash and polish as soon as I can manage it, because the paintwork looks quite good - deep metallic brown/red (should look up the colour really).

It is very solid, good ride quality and economic so it seems (will know exactly at the next fill up). It pulls really well for a 1.9, not a boy racer car, but plenty of power in top for motorway work.

Try give it a bit of clay onto it is excellent stuff and you will be surprised how much contaminants it removes

I get my new vrs on Monday, really looking forward to it, I could do with something positive to happen for me!!

Thats bad news longdog which port is it sat at??

Why the 1st may??? If you don,t mind me asking what do you do?

Andy

It's been sat at the port of tyne since last Thursday, they don't release cars over the weekend and I work offshore so the 1st of May is the earliest I'll be able to collect it. The dealer wants me to have it on Monday as their figures get messed up if I don't but that won't be possible as I'm travelling back that day. Never mind, something to look forward to,

Just found a ford lotus escort on e bay

1 of 883 made!!!

Ready,,,,,,,, £65,000!!!!!!!!

Andy

Not quite the same. The Lotus Escort was a Mk. 1 Escort fitted with (I think) a twin cam Elan engine and other uprated stuff. But Superspeed was a racing team (two brothers) whose family also ran a Ford dealership in Ley Street, Ilford. They took various Ford models and did all kinds of things. My first 3 litre one was a Lotus Escort with a Capri GT V6 and uprated suspension (Konis or similar) and stuff done to the rest of the suspension, Rostyle wheels etc etc and went like a rocket, though the engine was like a lorry.

The second one I had later was much the same thing but done to an RS 1600 Mk. 1 Escort, a kind of offshoot of the rallying world I think.

No idea if any still exists.

The one in link below is exactly like mine except I didn't have the dark stripe on the side

Jag was about 6.8 to 7, Escort V6 was about 6.4.

E type would be reckoned to come past you at about 90, but long before then you just pulled over and waved them through!

Top speed of Escort was not that great - about 120 maybe, as engine was low revving. Didn't make much difference what gear you were in - all torque and no revs (no it wasn't a diesel!) I had one of them on rolling road once and was told bhp at rear wheels was only about 92.

Re: Lotus Escort it was just known as the "twincam". Of course the (Mk. 1) Lotus Cortina (much the same works) was well known - I think Jim Clarke made a bit of a name for it in saloon car racing.

Will do mate! The compound is huge, take a look on google maps and search for Port of Tyne. I see transporters rolling out there everyday loaded with nice new cars. It's a Volkswagon UK compound so it's full of VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda. The gym I go to is right next to it and you often get the transporters parked up in the car park over night after they have been loaded up.

Probably wasn't me that you saw. I'm on the north side of the river (quite literally) but sometimes go through the tunnel if I am travelling southwards. There are quite a few white ones round here now but my last one was the first. Mine has REVO decals on the rear windows and a black grill surround so keep an eye out for me.

Where are you then?
