Andy, some things are best left unsaid online! But yes, fun (as in whipping expensive butts!) was definitely had!!

Cat & Fiddle Pass, Peak District Summer 2004, will stick in the memory for a very long time!

And he bet he wished he'd bought an older Tvr with the old Buick lump ;) the 6's and ajps go pop every five minutes... Always fancied a griff 500 - drove a cerb loved it but the build quality was shocking - ended up with the 993

No he ended up crashing it into a car in a shop car park,,, the car had a toe eye which he didn't see,,,,!!!

He did have a few moments,, one against another feller who had a 911

The older TVRs had Rover V8's which were heavily re-worked & tuned. They were bullet-proof and probably the best part of the car!

I found the build quality on my Chimaera pretty good considering they were hand built and considering their reputation for unreliability.

I absolutely loved mine. Put a HUGE smile on my face every time I started it. I lived in London at the time and it was parked on the street. Imagine the curtain twitching when the barely silenced V8 roared into life!!

The more I talk about it, the more I miss it. That was a proper, proper car!

Ha ha so why don,t you!!!

What car would you like now then dunc????

Andy

My not so exciting list, built on my limited 13 years of motoring.

1988 Nissan Micra 1.2

1999.Renault Clio MTV 1.2 (awful car)

2001 Ford Focus 2.0 Zetec (loved this car)

2002 Fabia 1.4 Elegance

2003 Ford Ka 1.3 (dont ask)

2004 Octavia VRS 1.8 MK1 (best car Ive owned)

1995 Nissan Micra 1.3 (free from my Grandmother and forced to sell VRS due to house purchase)

2005 Suzuki Swift 1.5 (seemed like a good idea at the time. It wasnt)

2006 Ford Mondeo ST 2.2 ( great car with impressive torque figued but rattles from every fixing)

2010 Octavia Elegance 1.8 DSG (love the drive, but reliability has been a dog)

2012 Peugeot 508 Allure 2.0 (Ill let you know when it arrived in 4 weeks!)

Agree - i think the change over from the old Buick/rover v8 to more 'fancy' motors killed the reliability and build quality. People quoting 3rd engine rebuild at 20k miles put me of the speed sixes.

If only Tvr had put the 5.7 Chevy in its cerberas etc.... After the demise of the old v8. Completely bomb proof and more than enough power (too much probably)

Real shame Tvr lost the plot :(

Agreed Marcevo. The demise of TVR was sad!

Andy, I'd love another V8. Guy on my street has an RS4 Estate with the 4.2 lump. Sounds great.

But, with petrol prices as they are, my vRS is probably the perfect compromise at the moment!

I also get DSG, paddle shift, and all the other toys - SD card, Nav - and curtain airbags for the kids!

If I had the cash for a weekend car, that would be a different matter! ;-)

The m55 on a Sunday morning (3am) will never be the same without Tvr.... I can remember going very quickly in my old legacy turbo - i saw some headlights in the rear view mirror catching me very rapidly. You can imagine what was going through my mind... Blue light - nope at what I estimate was about 170mph + a blur of a Tvr went past... 'Official' test track apparently!

Only driven two v8 which was the supercharged Hsv (daily driver) and a f355 - 600 miles or so of hire car. Both very different sounding obviously - cant imagine running a v8 as a daily driver now - you'd cry at every petrol station. Shame as I think the vxr8 is an absolute bargain second hand

Ha ha what a story marco!!!!!

I bet that was a noise!!!

I remember being in a location waiting for speeding motorists on the motorway, and yes I would only stop and deal with motorists over 90, anyway I was sat there and ,80,79,87,88,73,89 nearly I thought , then a whoosh and 145 a black r32!!!!!! Needless to say I never caught it!!!

I looked at it in two ways,,, yes very lucky not to get caught and for him to think that was a close one,,, never again, or more than likely they will still be doing it!!!!!!! And unfortunately an accident waiting to happen!!!!

Depends who produces it - when I had my Escort V6 a mate had a Gilbern Genie with, supposedly, the same engine. It was nowhere near as sharp as the Escort. His 0-60 was about 11 sec, mine was 6.4.

He was quite a character though and ended up making his own estate out of it, literally cutting away lumps at the back (fibreglass body) and constructing his own rear end.....painful!!

Nice one oc scene

Why a 508????

Andy

I just fancied a complete change to be honest. I know its French, I know most peoples thoughts on french cars, I know the horror stories of the electrics on French cars but few will knock thier diesel engines and if the hype, reviews, write ups, test drives and opinions of the 508's build are to be believed its up their with the best of them. I shall let you know. It is certainly a lot of car for the money and currently quite a rare car which also appeals to me. Ill let you know what its like!

Bear in mind I must be going back to something like 1970 - a different era!

He didn't cut the car in half or anything, he sort of cut away the "saloon" rear windscreen, the boot lid and somehow grafted a tailgate and new roofline, rear side windows etc.

I think Gilbern had brought out their own estate by then - maybe he got hold of some parts, can't remember. But it ended up looking just reasonable. Must have had a respray too I suppose. Personally I'd have just traded in .................
