Enjoy yours tomorrow! You get DSG?

Isn't it weird looking back on cars we've had? It's a bit like a time travel trip into the past and how some of them were a surprise.

I had one odder surprise a few years back when my 2.0 FSi went in for minor warranty work (the famous squeaky door seals) to Crawley Down, and the courtesy car they gave me was, of all things, a 1.2 Micra Urbis.

I thought it would be like driving a kid's pedal car but it was really fun! I don't know what power it supposedly has but it was brisk and lively, sharp steering and amazing nice gear change.

When I mentioned this later to others, I was told that in fact it had a terrible reputation - I don't know why. Perhaps you guys can enlighten me?

I think there is a bad batch in them all ed

I used to read some horrible stories about my rs250 but all the problems mentioned had no effect on mine at all

Andy

Nice one Pete

What was the fast pick up,s like compared to the vrs????

A million miles apart! Scary unweighted big horsepower to easy driveable much less bhp fwd. Both great in each way i guess!

Take out the rear shelf and put the rear seats down - you'll have a vRS truck!

Andy

Car history:

'86 C Fiat Panda (brilliant)

'89 F Peugeot 205 1.9 GTI (loved it)

'95 M Golf 3 GTI (never let me down)

'95 M TVR Chimaera 4L HC (great fun & VERY fast)

'03 Honda Accord Tourer (kids arrived, dull)

'05 Golf 5 GTI DSG (great but unreliable with awful customer service)

'10 FL vRS Petrol Estate DSG in silver with Columbus, xenons, rear park, curtain bags, spare wheel, leather & deleted Octavia badge on boot. Probably the best all round car I've ever had. Love it!

Andy, simple yet brilliant design on the ep3 for the gear stick. Also met my wife thanks to the R so nothing can replace that.

The vrs, well I'd have it today but having chipped the elegance and I said I would keep it a couple more years because of that. Also it's young and a good economical car so while it's just me working, it can stay :)

Andy, the Chimaera was amazing. The sound of the V8, both at idle - the bassy burble - and under power - the howl as you passed 4000 revs! I also loved the special bespoke feeling of the interior. It was BRG with sand full leather. Roof down was best!

I had it for three years and had a great deal of fun with it. Yes, I took on a few others, but to be fair, people expected it to be quick!

The Octy is better as a sleeper ;-)

Cheers, Dunc

We should send this list to a car magazine to see what sort of nutters drive skodas ;)

Fair list of great cars in here

Andy

Andy, some things are best left unsaid online! But yes, fun (as in whipping expensive butts!) was definitely had!!

Cat & Fiddle Pass, Peak District Summer 2004, will stick in the memory for a very long time!
