Major electrical troubles.

Featured Replies

Hey chaps.

Something very weird has just happened after a 15 mile round trip this afternoon. None of my windows, the sunroof (electrical) the remote central locking or any interior lights are working, Not even a glimmer. Also the deadlocking system is out too, so my car is parked up, locked without the dealocks on and My insurance have said leaving the car unsecured in this way is something they do not cover so I need to sort this pritty damn pronto, As I had my sat nav stolen from the car a couple of months ago, even though the glove box was locked. The theiving scumbags!

Oh and before I forget, even the lights on the door cards have failed. I've checked all the fuses, nothing.......none of the garrages I've phoned have any idea what's going on....I'm just a bit stumped......What on earth can it be?????

Any sugestions and I mean ANY, will be a great help.

Thanks chaps!!!

Check fuses F10 and F14. The common factor is the CCU (Central Convenience Unit) and it's not uncommon for this unit to go faulty.

as above, or maybe water ingress into the loom in the drives door / broken cable between the door/car. Do the electric mirrors work?

Usually I would agree, but as the sunroof isn't working either, I'd put money on the CCU.

oh, I missed the sunroof bit. I had better go and have a beer to commiserate myself for failing to read the whole post

Surprisingly, it turned out to be a fuse, F10 as rbaldwin sugested. I did look at the fuses, but didn't know which ones to look at. The one I took out was a 15amp not a 10 amp as the haynes manual sugests. I've replaced it with a 10 amp which blew as soon as I put the window down half an inch, again. Placed a 15 in, no probs. Maybe as I have a L&K edition, It requires more current.

Oh well, all seems to be working as before though so won't complain!!

Regards,

Tony.

Fuse F10, is apparently 5A (diesel) or 10A (petrol) according to this (click image to go larger):

I would therefore suggest that maybe you still have an electrical fault (assuming the fuse values I have quoted are correct).

F10 should be 10A and is for the 86s circuit (ignition key presence). If an aftermarket headunit is fitted, it occasionally requires a 15A fuse.

Thanks mate, that's one of the electrical troubles sorted, the interior lights. Now for the sunroof, windows, remote locking and alarm.....Hmmmm.

Car's overdure a service by a week so shall get it booked into the garage pronto to get it looked at. I'm just not free enough to takle it myself, Salesman by trade so have to be selling to be earning and to do that, i need to be on the road. luckily, i get a co. car too, so that's a godsend.

Shall let you all know what happens by the middle of the week hopefully.

Many regards and thanks,

Tony.
