phoned 3 local dealers yesterday to get prices for my 2nd year fixed service.

1st dealer £229 for the service but said would also be £45 for brake fluid change appranty required every 2 years. No mention of recall notices.

2nd dealer - phone rang out, then got recorded message so their customer service is crap

3rd dealer, £247 all in, including recall for badges the did mention this included a air con service which is required?? I apparantly don't need the brake fluid doing as mine a 2011 model year which was changed to brake fluid every 3 years.

Shoud the air con be service or can I leave this out and save a few £££ to me the air con works find and is nice and cold.

Thanks

I took out the £299 service deal for 2 services/ 20,000 miles/2 years deal which suits me perfectly.

I also had to have the brake fluid change as well for my 2nd fixed service at 20,000 miles. Even though mine is a MY 2011, it was made in 2010 and the dealer said it wasn't late enough for the 3 year 2011 ones.....

If the air con is working and giving out cold air, then it should be fine.

I do all my own yearly servicing on the old 2005 Fabia VRS.

Air/ fuel/ pollen/ oil filters with 5 litres of engine oil £57.54 all-in.

I didn't always change the sump plug as now are fitted with a steel and NOT copper washer.

I have this year 2012, fitted a magnetic sump plug with a copper washer

Brake fluid changes 2 yearly 1 litre £5.00 using one-way bleed system.

Aerosol of white grease £5.00 lasts for years.

Anything mechanical I have missed is usually found at the MOT testing station.

I change rear brake discs and pads every 2 years at about £28.00 all-in, they rust so quickly, usually they are 'MINTEX' brand.

Once you have acquired the right tools and have done servicing a few times it's really easy and straight-forward.

I don't rush to do it all in one day, but spread things out over a week.

I get most items on E-Bay with the exception of the white grease and brake-fluid.

Thats fine for a vehicle out of warranty.......

No UK Yeti are out of warranty yet - wait until later this year for the very first 59 plates ones to be....

i certainly would not risk a service not by a registered Skoda dealer - because I want resale value, because i want accountability, because they have the tech to keep me up to date.

And because my diy skills are crap. And all to save a few quid. I'd rather feel safe, thanks.

+1

I am just about to do the same for my now nearly two years old [sept 2010 but MY2011] Yeti - Excellent value for money - Well done Skoda UK & Simpsons of Preston (Apparantly not all dealers are part of the scheme!)

Check out the LINK and you may be very pleasantly surprised as I was.

Now expired (dec 2011)

May be for you with your dealer :-( NOT so here :-). Arranged to sign the documents and pay on Friday of this week when in for the current recalls [badge & Turbo]. Also spoke to SUK about it this morning and it is current!

My supplying and to now servicing dealer has just gone out of business.

Don't know what effect that would have on any prepaid servicng plans. Glad I didn't sign up so have no need to find out!

Aside of that, it seems a real shame that Hayes of Clacton have gone - I cannot even post on the appropriate dealer pages here as their thread has been locked. Now I'll have to search around for another dealer and am not too keen to go back to the mega franchise alternative that is Underwoods Skoda/Peugeot/Vauxhall/Mazda/RenaultVauxhall/Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge/AnythingElseon4Wheels!

With my Fabia VRS 2005, please read about SKODA servicing.

Might seem a strange question but bear with me a second, ask SKODA service- person, if whether they remove the wheels during their service.?

**Reason why? they admitted to me at the dealers service desk that they only peer through the spokes of the wheels and underneath at the rear of the brake discs.

(My thought as it was probably such a low mileage, wear of the pads and discs would be relatively none existent ??)

**This only came to light when I wanted to change my rear brake discs & pads, and the wheels were corroded onto centre hubs.

And?

Firstly, that is perfectly normal, although some MIGHT do it from underneath, whilst on the ramps.

Secondly, that is a problem with your garage SPECIFICALLY, and not Skoda.

Thirdly, alloy wheels sticking to hubs is very very common, and doesn't just affect Skodas.

Anything else?

Whilst you arrange the Service Plan with your dealer. It is Škoda UK that administer the agreement. You can arrange the service or MOTs with another dealer or transfer the plan to the next owner if you sell the vehicle.

Signed the agreement today 01/06/2012 at a cost of £299 - That covers me for the Two Year Service Plan (Service X 2 - MOTs X 2 + MOT protection scheme X 2 - Dust & Pollen Filter - Fuel Filter - Air Filter - Break Fluid change - Spark Plugs) all for £299. A Fantastic Deal! :sun:

If anyone wants to see the current leaflets on the service plan I will post them if asked..............Tony (AKA The Great Yeti)

We considered it when we got ours, but as the MOT wasn't going to be relevant for 3 years, decided it wasn't for us. Even if an annual service cost £150, we'd pay it when it arose, not pay twice that upfront to Skoda.

Were we wrong ?

I am told that the two years start from our 1st "Free" service and so as we are now nearly at two years and due a service in August:

Aug 2012 = Service

Aug 2013 = Service + MOT

Aug 2014 = MOT

This is how it was explained by our dealer and therefore we will benefit from the full cover of the plan including ALL the extras - a total of something well in excess of the £299 we have paid

Ah right, that's maybe the difference. AFAIR it was presented as 2 years from Day 1, so whilst it might have been relevant to a used vehicle, it wasn't relevant to us.

Oh well. I maybe misunderstood. We'll pay it as it arises. I'd still rather keep my brass trousered than pay it in advance to Skoda for something including features not relevant till 2014.

I'm a tight Yorkshire git I am.

Ah but what is actually included.

The following indicates just one oil change service, so if the car is on variable or fixed servicing and/or you do a higher mileage then the plan won't cover everything needed over two years. I do about 12k per year and servicing on variable seems to be needed about every 18-20k. So in 2 years my Yeti will need more than the one oil change that seems to be specified in the plan.

If it were on fixed servicing with an oil change needed every year, again I would need to pay for an extra oil change or does that 'inspection service' also include an oil change.

Not surprised that the website is vague. But if two oil changes and MoT are actually included in the plan, then I would agree that £299 is an ok deal - but not much more. The cost of my first service at 19k was considerably less than £299! The next service due in a couple of months time at about 37K I hope will be about £250 - 300. That to include the first MoT.

I think I'll stick with the old fashioned method.

From the Skoda UK Website: http://www.skoda.co.uk/gbr/owners/service-and-maintenance/service-plans/Pages/default.aspx

If you are buying a used ŠKODA, you can now benefit from the used car service plan* for just £299.

Whatever your circumstances, ensure you benefit from 2 years or 20,000 miles servicing (whichever comes first). Services are undertaken by specialist ŠKODA trained technicians who have the knowledge and expertise to service your car as it should be with the use of genuine approved parts.

Not only will we keep your ŠKODA in perfect running condition, your full service history will also be maintained. The used car service plan is fully transferable to subsequent buyers should you decide to sell your ŠKODA before the plan ends.

The service plan includes a maximum of:

  • 1 x Oil change at 10,000 miles or 12 months
  • 1 x Inspection service at 20,000 miles or 24 months
  • 1 x Dust and pollen filter at 24 months
  • 1 x Brake fluid change at 24 months (if required)†
  • 1 x Fuel filter (if required) †
  • 1 x Air filter (if required) †

You can only use the plan for fixed servicing.

I tried to get mine changed from fixed to variable but they couldn't change it whilst I was on the £299 plan.

Then £299 plan is not compatible with variable servicing if you read the small print

I did state SKODA dealer as I assume you don't have your servicing carried-out where they manufacture new SKODA vehicles.

Seems your quite content to put up with anything, good luck you don't get any bad luck. LOL

I have been quoted £272 and £250 by Skoda dealers for my second variable service- an inspection service plus brake fluid change.

Would it be worth trying to get the £299 deal and switch to the fixed service regime?

(My Yeti will be three years old in November and I have done 28,000 miles)
