Service Plan Quote

Featured Replies

Hi.

I just got a quote from local Skoda dealer for three years servicing on my Roomster. £531.88 (about 17 quid monthly). Includes two minor and one medium (??) service to Skoda's schedule. And 10% discount on accessories and fitting, mechanical repairs and labour and MOTs. Planning to get bars put on at some point so would save about 40 quid there.

Am wondering:

a. How it compares to other deals.

b. If I should just put 17 quid aside each month.

Ta

3 years on new roomster (under 40k miles in total) is 3 oil filters, 15l of oil, possibly brake pads and a half a can of silicone grease. At retail prices about 150 quid total, plus 3h-6h work including checks. Hard to beat DIY...

I would say buy yourself a Haynes Manual on the Roomster if there was one. I guess Fabia 2 would be roughly the same.

Study the servicing section.

Buy filters and oil online.

Buy oil online if PD OIL is required make sure it is PD, and its so much cheaper online.

Buy yourself something like a Sealy 69 oil extract pump for around £50, you don’t even have to raise the vehicle then.

Safety checks will be covered in the MOT.

The money you save can be put by for any jobs that actually do require mechanics skills , i.e. clutches and cam belts.

In the old days there were things to do i.e. adjust valves ,timing, points and grease nipples, but with modern cars servicing is so simple.

If your not comfortable with DIY servicing then its best to leave it alone.

Although it has to be said there is no skill required in general servicing of a modern car.

People say to me it all to technical nowadays, but no its not its easier than ever.

And the oil change is a doodle if you buy pump.

And to my amazement there was an article in the Mail on Sunday , and on the Confused dot com webpage’s advocating car servicing DIY. Even suggesting Diy change of front brake pads.

Wonders will never cease!
