Martin|G|Allen's Fabia 1.4 8v Classic (2000)

Featured Replies

I had to say goodbye to a good friend a few weeks ago when I part exchanged my trusty Fabia 1.4 8v Classic.

I bought it because I loved the colour! ... and as I was on a tight budget, it's simplicity helped me save money on repairs.

I visited many garages when I was looking for a replacement car and asked how much they'd give me. Most garages were honest and said they'd scrap it and give me scrap value for it!

Fortunately I eventually bought my new car from a garage who were prepared to fix up and resell.

It was brand new in March 2000, originally owned by someone who lived in Lee on Solent. I took ownership in 2006. It had 43k on the clock.

I loved the engine, although many on these forums hated it.. and I managed to get a reasonable economy from it, and I didn't drive like a grandma either!

I put plenty of miles on it, and when I said goodbye, the reading was 129k.

I never fitted winter tyres to it, and it seemed to be okay through the bleak snowy winters.

Throughout it's time in my hands it had:

  • 2 new windscreens
  • 10 tyres (two were non-repairable punctures!!)
  • 4 anti roll bar bush replacements
  • 1 off side rear spring replacement
  • 1 temperature probe replacement
  • 1 cam chain replacement (@ 80k miles - was very rattly at idle)
  • 6 oil changes
  • 8 Spark Plugs
  • 8 bulb replacements (of various sorts, mostly dipped headlight)

So... if you buy a Lagoon Blue, X reg Skoda Fabia 1.4 MPI in the future... it might be mine. And I loved it.

It was sold with a full service history since 2006, including all receipts for work carried out.

I wish the new owner the best. I hope to pass it on the road someday!
