Citigo elegance Greentech on the way!

Featured Replies

Long time Skoda owner, this will be my 3rd one. Had a Mk1 Fabia VRs, then a Fabia 2.

Had a test drive on the Citigo Elegance Greentech today, very impressed. Took the car up the motorway and i have to say it cruises beautifully.

Didn't have much money to spend, but managed to negotiate a part exchange on the demonstrator car i'd just driven!

Should be picking it up on Friday all being well.

Didn't get stuck in Traffic, so i didn't get to use the "stop/start" function - does anybody know how it works?

I think it Stops then It starts again

I think

Come to a stop, put the gear in neuteral and the engine stops. To start the engine again depress the clutch back into gear and off you go.

Some systems depend on engine temp',ambient temp' etc but thats the general theory for stop/start systems.

You might find it a little disconcerting the first time you drive it, but I'm sure that it'll feel perfectly natural after you've been driving it for 10 minutes. There are lots of criteria for when it will and will not operate -but the computer in the car makes those decisions. There is a a button to deactivate it -useful on days like this as when it stops, the fans stay running but the air conditioning cuts out (it restarts with the engine). If you're sat in traffic when it's hot then you'll need to keep the engine running in order to keep cool. If you have the air conditioning set to demist the windscreen, then the engine will not stop.

Thanks guys (or girls maybe?) - sounds like an interesting function. And it's good that it can be overridden too for air-con reasons!

All being well i should be getting the car tomorrow.

Excitement, and a really hot, sweltering night, will lead to very little sleep.

Excellent news, Mike!

Yes, i've got to take some and then blank out the number plate, and then try to work out how to upload them too.

I'll get some on soon.

So, i got it this morning, lovely car, very impressed so far!

One thing i can't believe is the little engine on the motorway. Cruises beautifully at 70 mph, and only revs at around 3000 rpm.

Can't seem to upload my pics! How do i do it?

had the stop start on fabia greenline for just over a month, took a week or so to get used but it is impressive the amount of fuel you save on a rush hour commute

got only a 75ps 1.2 tdi in fabia estate and was concerned it would be under powered, cracking little car cruises fine, little bit slow away if you have the aircon on, so if you need a quick get away at a junction / roundabout just turn the aircon off for a few seconds

^ That's really nice in silver. The wifes thinking of trading the Fabia for one and most of the reviews/views I'm seeing on Brisky seem positive. A lot of technology packed into a little car!

Glad you like it! No complaints so far - although at times the engine sounds "gruffer" than it does on other occassions.

However, the trip computer indicates over 62 mpg every trip! And a lot of my journeys have been of the "non-cruise" variety.

I'll tell you something as well, it's terrific on the motorway, at 70mph it's only revving at 3,000 revs, and is quiet and composed.

Congratulations mate! The 75 engine is a bit gruffer than the 60 under acceleration in my opinion , but is just as quiet when cruising and the extra power is noticeable. I do like the Citigo in silver it's my favourite colour ...after green

The green looks very good - shame it doesn't come with the lovely Anastacia like it does in the advert! .

Silver very possibly a bit subtler. Regarding the gruffness, mine doesn't do it of a cold start, but seems to do it if the car's been used, rested for a while, then used again. It sounds a bit like a diesel/tractor. But not when cruising.

Checking the VW up forums reveals a number of drivers with similar things. I wound the window down in the driveway and gave the Citigo a bit of a rev and i'm fairly convinced it's exhaust related.

Looks great, Mike!

You're not kidding greenstripe! I had a flick through the Owner's Handbook for some giggles.

There is quite an extensive list of checks the computer performs before switching the engine off/on on page 67:-

Automatic engine shut down (stop phase)

› Stop the vehicle (where necessary, apply the handbrake).

› Take the vehicle out of gear.

› Release the clutch pedal.

Automatic renewed engine restart (start phase).

› Depress the clutch pedal.

**********

Conditions for the automatic engine shut down (stop phase)

› The gearshift lever is in Neutral.

› The clutch pedal is not depressed.

› The driver has fastened the seat belt.

› The driver's door is closed.

› The bonnet is closed.

› The vehicle is at a standstill.

› The engine is at operating temperature.

› The charge state of the vehicle battery is sufficient.

› The stationary vehicle is not on a steep slope or a steep downhill section.

› The engine speed is less than 1200 1/min.

› The temperature of the vehicle battery is not too low or too high.

› There is sufficient pressure in the braking system.

› The difference between the outdoor- and the set temperature in the interior is not too great.

› The vehicle speed since the last time the engine was switched off was greater than 3 km/h.

› The front wheels are not turned excessively (the steering angle is less than 3/4 of a steering wheel revolution).

Conditions for an automatic restart (start phase)

› The clutch is depressed.

› The max./min. temperature is set.

› The Defrost function for the windshield is switched on.

› A high blower stage has been selected.

› The START STOP button is pressed.

Conditions for an automatic restart without driver intervention

› The vehicle moves at a speed of more than 3 km/h.

› The difference between the outdoor- and the set temperature in the interior is too great.

› The charge state of the vehicle battery is not sufficient.

› There is insufficient pressure in the braking system.

Thanks! Unfortuantely since those pictures were taken it's got dirty due to a number of drives in the rain!

That's quite a lot of the things for the computer to work out!

To be honest the stop/start worries me a little. I get worried it's not going to start again after it's stopped! To be fair it always HAS started as soon as the clutch is depressed, but i've had cars that have not always started first time when i've turned the engine off, i think driver's behind me would get rather miffed if it happened at a set of traffic lights!

My Ex has a Fiat 500 Twinair with stop/start.

She never switches it on, too anxious about it never starting again...

One of the criteria for the system to operate is a full diagnosis of the stop/start system. It won't stop if there is a problem. I'm sure that it's possible, but I haven't had any issues with my fabia greenline in nearly a years driving and 20,000 miles. Also I drive in London and have never seen any start stop cars stranded at traffic lights, I think that generally these systems are very reliable.

My daughter commented the other day that when start stop cuts the engine, the system seemed to apply the brakes too, as the pedal went hard.

Can anyone confirm this is so?

Meanwhile I'll have a look through the manual...

My Fabia has hill assist. Best look in the handbook to see if something similar on Citigo. I haven't driven ours enough yet as it's Mrs' car. Power steering disappears when engine cuts so that can feel a bit odd. It's all stuff to get used to.

Yeah, I too was worried about the winter starts but by the sound of it, it won't switch on when the outsie temperature is low. :)

Pleased to hear your Fabia is still going strong. I really hope to see my MPG almost double my Leon and start/stop should help.

i saw 84mpg in my fabia greenline tonight on the 25mile run home from work,

i got the fabia as it had better mpg than the citigo and with the VAT free offer when i got mine made the fabia not much more than the citigo elegance greentech average seem to be around 62-65mpg at moment

would be interested to see what people get once the citigos are run in for a few thousand and the engines are loosened up, and also if there is much difference between 60 and 75PS mpg
