What's the top speed of the 60ps?

Featured Replies

I'm new to Skoda, so pardon my ignorance, but what are these?

If you press the indicator stalk up or down, but not enough for it to click and lock on, you get three flashes of the indicator to the left or right.

Ideal for changing lanes so you don't have to click it on and then off.

  • That doesn't surprise me. 110mph indicated is in reality probably about 100mph true speed. And the 60PS will comfortably do a true 90mph on the flat without straining too much.

  • Not with the stereo yours has in it no!

  • I did a quick test and it works, but it is dependent on the surface grip, there is not much of a buffer in the activation of the system. Tried in the work depot on a sheet and it did a sharp brake wi

Ah nice one. Thanks.

just tried this when I was out and about, works great, nice tip!

Tomorrows tip will be a test of the City-Stop. Stand by for something spectacular! :peek:

Haha so tempted to try this on my garage or something but also not so tempted :p they wouldnt let me do it on the photoshoot either awwww :(

Will the video be on Youtube?

At some stage, been a bit busier today than I was expecting.

Work eh! :D

Just don't do a Mercedes and leave the system switch off as they did in a press demo of the system! :giggle:

I did a quick test and it works, but it is dependent on the surface grip, there is not much of a buffer in the activation of the system.

Tried in the work depot on a sheet and it did a sharp brake with ABS on, but due to the smooth concrete floor (not much grip) it stopped about 10cm after hitting the sheet.

Need to try it on the road...

Edit: I did try on a member of staff, but they moved before the system cut in. ;)

What happens about the clutch etc?

Does it engage the clutch for you when it brakes? Or cut the engine out?

Phil

It kills the engine through heavy braking to a standstill.

Crikey that was close enough. Were you brave enough to be doing the full 30mph at that.

It only works at 19mph and below, also its only a brake "assist" right so its meant for you to brake as well, thats just my thinking of it

I was doing about 15mph, but it did leave a nice pair of skid marks on the floor.

I believe that if you are braking it's not as effective. It's kind of designed to stop you from rear ending a car at junctions when you aren't paying attention. Like the classic where the car in front starts to pull out, so you look sideways and do the same only to find later the car in front changed their mind.

Next week I'll do some tests to see what it does and does not do. Always handy to know.

yup :) then you get shouted at by PID ... :giggle:

Monkeykler,

As long as it does 80/90 and doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart then i'm happy :), there is a loat of road noise on these i noticed though, doubt i'll hear it when the radio is on though ;)

When one has (eventually) climbed to 70 on a Motorway, one also has to only flex the old right foot, and you're doing 85+ without even knowing it. For a 3 Pot, they're quite potent little beasts: it may take a little time to get the old elastic taught, but once wound up, there's no holding them!!!

I find the gear range impressive, third gear up to about 80 miles an hour and fourth up to just about 100

Eventually get to 70?

It's gets there very quick :)

I've hit 100 comfortably several times in my little Citigo Black edition, but can never achieve anything more than that. I will have to find some good downhill to see how much further I can stretch it! :)

The Citigo is more than enough to keep pace with traffic on the motorway. Hit just over 90mph (speedo reading) down the straight at combe. So more than enough for motorway use in the UK

I find the speedo very optomistic. The best measure is the GPS speed reading of the pid satnav.

34 is 30

70 is 63

77 is 70

You can easily run speed cameras at 35 and not get flashed.

I have shown 101mph on the satnav but it took a long run up.

Getting to 70 is slow if you dont work the gears. dont be afraid to drop down to 4th or 3rd to get acceleration. You will be straining the engine less so its better for the car overall.

I wouldn't like to trust the GPS, rather the speedo

The speedo in your will over read, it is not that accurate.

Unless you're climbing a severe gradient (likely one past the Citigo's capability) or your path is extremely curved, GPS will provide a more accurate estimate. The whole thing relies upon having precise timers, and (assuming it knows where it is, which it should if working properly) every few seconds just divides how far you've travelled by how long it took to get there. They can also use Doppler shifts. GPS should be accurate to well inside 1mph.

Speedos are (apparently) required by law to not under-read, so will typically be set such that they claim you're going faster than you are to account for drift, tyre variations, etc. On mine this is typically by about 3-5 mph.

Thus for law-compliance purposes, I always use the speedo.

I wondered what that dude with the yellow box and the trenchcoat was up to...

I don't have to worry (at least not too much) about speed limits - there's an obtrusive oik shouting "beware" at me from the PID, and there's an even more obtrusive voice shouting "you're exceeding the limit" from the front passenger seat. "Speed monitoring" in duplicate!!!
