I've got a 56 reg Fabia with the original stereo in it. I'd like to replace it with an aftermarket one (maybe this - http://www.philips.co.uk/c/car-entertainment-systems/carstudio-dock-for-ipod-iphone-cmd310_05/prd?country=GB&catalogType=CONSUMER&language=en)

Will that stereo fit? If so, how exactly do I fit it?

That should fit - simply remove the stock headunit (either get the right keys or use small thin bits of metal like a hacksaw blade). Plug the car harness to the new unit and away you go. You may need an aerial adaptor depending on the unit.

and a blanking bit for the 1cm gap left at the top when fitting a normal head unit. Readily available from Skoda/Ebay.

The wiring for the new unit should plug into the car's ISO wiring fine, and it should "just work"

The only thing is if the loom has red to red, yellow to yellow, you need to swap these over so the radio remembers where you are whilst the car is off. Its the switched live. If you don't the CD will always return to the start instead of where you left it.

The only problem imfound is trying to get a decent facia for below the radio.

Does everyones radio sit back too far when fitted properly. I can see part of the top of the cubby hole.

Im just waiting for delivery of a Connects 2: CT24SK03 facia. Hoping it will solve it. The autoleads facia is pants so dont bother with that one.

One more question though, I would like to put some speakers in the back too (to the right and left side of the parcel shelf). Is the wiring loom already there or will I have to put all that in?

You will need to wire that in.

kenwood cd removal keys from halfords work. i popped in and tried them then once the cd player popped out took the keys back lol

Ok guys, this is an old thread, but I figure I'd revive instead of starting a new one.

 

Got a 2006 Fabia, and I removed the Symphony unit to put in a Pioneer DEH-X5700BT. Great reviews.

 

However, the little frame in which it comes, that is removable, doesn't fit. I have to shove the unit into the slot without this frame, but then it doesn't stay put. I don't know how to secure it in place.

 

The unit is also as deep as the Symphony, but it's hard to get it in all the way as the cables keep getting in the way. I'm thinking of switching it for the one without a CD player, as it's half as deep.

 

Finally, the main cables fit fine with the adapter that was included. Only issue is the antenna cable is female, and the connector on the stereo is too, so I need an adapter? Any idea what it's called?

The frames will usually fit with a bit of force. This might mean slightly bending the frame to get it into place (normally slightly kink the top or the bottom, then straighten out once it's in place).

 

There is reasonable space behind the unit but there is also a support "thing" that gets in the way. To gain more access take out the glovebox, remove all trim panels around the stereo and the switches and blanks from above it. That should give you the best chance seeing how to put it into place.
