Dealer discounts

As previously mentioned you can get £2k to £3k off a Yeti with the on line car brokers with

pick up from a dealer which seem to be too good to be true.

But if you need to trade in (and some of them appear to offer trade ins) is this where the catch

lies....do you get less than at a main dealer would offer and then the bargain is not as good as first appears.

Any one care to share their experiances if a trade in is involved?

As far as the dealer is concerned a trade in is just a way of making the deal happen. They don't really want your car unless it's something they can sell on for a profit. Anything older than 3 years old will most likely end up at an auction.

Check out the parkers guide for used car valuations, it's the closest you will get to the industry bible, Glasses guide.

Parkers give a range of valuations, including a trade in one. Obviously whether your car gets that figure depends on its condition, mileage, service history etc.

You should still be able to get a discount on the price of a new car even if you are trading in.

Some of the better dealers will give you a valuation, but allow you the opportunity to sell the vehicle privately before you take delivery of your new car.

I have a 61 plate Hyundai i10, which I was considering trading in against a citigo. Parkers guide says £6250 for a private good condition sale. The trade in valuation is about £5500. My local dealer who won't budge on price offered me £4750 trade in against a full price citigo.

Preston motors, one of the highly praised dealers on here offered me a £5k trade in valustion if i could not sell car privately AND a discount.

So you have to consider what you want for the trade in value and then what you want to pay in total for the new car.

The less you pay altogether the better, of course.

As some folks on this forum have found you may well get a great discount and pay your deposit but the dealer doesnt put through your order until there is an unfilled gap in their allocation.

If in the meantime they can sell cars at a higher price to non Internet customers then your allocation spot gets pushed further back in time.

So its important with these high discounts to get a firm guarantee that the dealer will put through your order at the first oppurtunity and not when they feel like!

Never found Parkers guide to be of must use dealerwise...never been able to buy at the suggested price or trade in at the suggested value.

With regard to getting an allocated slot at the earliest opportunity...how do you tell...... they are never going to admit you got bumped and yes sir

you will get a slot at the earliest opportunity is the likely response to

the question.

Skoda Store did get back to me....just after I posted they hadn't. Very Good price
