  • There's the Swing and Audience also. Not sure whether bolero/amundsen are the right way round, but I think in very basic terms of features it kind of goes; Swing - Basic Stream - Basic with possibl

  • PDC = Parking Distance Control aka Parking sensors

  • Yes you can get Columbus with DAB, even more money though. Playing a DVD? Quite possibly the most entertaining way to kill yourself in a car. If it's for the back passengers to watch, it's cheaper to

And quite rightly so. The Audience was (and in our case still is) a disaster, incapable of providing a solid but clear sound however much you fiddled with the controls. But the main problem was the positioning of the front tweeters facing towards the passengers in the door pillars - totally against the laws of acoustics. Either driver or passanger could get a central image, but only if the balance control was set +-5 to either side.

I must agree with this, from the limited testing I've been able to do. Stereo (as in channel separation) is surprisingly good in the treble, but I haven't yet been able to get a rich, full sound with fleshed-out mid-range, unstiffled yet not-boomy bass and mellow highs. And I'm accustomed to very direct tweeters with the Klipsch speakers I have at home...!

How much can be done with replacing part or all of the standard speaker set-up, and what would be a good choice?

Let's hope the next Skodas have sound systems engineered by experts rather than stylists!

That should always be the case ... and somehow one might expect that a former-eastblock manufacturer would feel right at home with NAD design  :giggle:

Hoping to have MP3 playback on my 06 L&K with stream 6cd changer in boot I eagerly burned a standard iso CDROM with some MP3s on...

No joy :-(

06 is probably a little early, you should be able to tell from the head unit - if it's just Stream it won't read mp3's, the mp3 version is called Stream MP3.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before but the boot changer has never been able to play mp3's.

Thanks John (both of you)

I tried the MP3 CD in both head unit and 6cd changer without success.

Looks like plain old CDs it is then.

06 is too early.

If you are desperate for MP3 playback you can pick the Stream mp3 up on eBay fairly cheaply. Just make sure you get a code for it, and you also have to move one of the wires for the CD changer in the connector at the back of the head unit, there are threads on here about poor sound quality from the CD changer after changing head units, basically AUX IN was added and the pin for the earth for the CDC audio was moved to make room.

@andyvee

Thanks for the info.

I'm not that bothered, a bit disappointed perhaps but I'll just need to think ahead and fill the changer with CDs, mostly on radio anyway.

Sorry to bring this post back. Iv just brought an 08 Octavia VRS. I don't pick the car up till Saturday but I know it has sat nav and the cd changer in the boot. Which model of sat nav do I have? Thanks

That should be the Columbus.....

Thanks John. That is good news

On an 08, it *might be an MFD2.

Ouch!

Sent from my phone so please excuse brevity and spelling

No its not an MFD2. Just looked on ebay. So must be the Columbus. Can I just buy the latest CD and pop it in for the sat nav maps?

On car radio STREAM how should be functions LEARN (ON/OFF), REGIONAL (ON/OFF), and SEEK (LOCAL/DX) set in order to have optimal reception of the receivable radio stations/frequencies?

Unfortunately it is not clear for me in the manual of the STREAM radio.

To revive this thread as it seems the most appropriate place.....can anyone give me a definitive answer. Are some of the last Mk2 Bolero available with DAB? I have had a hire car with DAB for the last week and have thoroughly enjoyed the extra stations.

I can see some posts from 2012 which suggest no, and some from 2013 that suggest possibly. I know the version from the Mk3 Octavia has DAB but I don't think anyone has tried to retrofit to a MK2 yet & I'm not feeling that adventurous!

I'm also looking for a DAB option too (with NAV if possible)

I know that some later versions of the Columbus have DAB so that's probably the best solution for DAB and nav.

The Amundsen+ has DAB too but won't work with a pre-fl maxidot.

Will an Amundsen/Amundsen+ definitely not work on a pre-fl Octavia?

The units themselves work fine, but they will not interact with MFSW or MaxiDot on Pre-FL. They are BAP-only units, pre-FL is DDP only.

Columbus swings both ways.

Glad I didn't try to hunt one of those down then! :)

Handy, I have neither MFSW or Maxidot so Amundsen would be fine if I decided to get one of those,
