The reason you baught your fabia?

Featured Replies

Just wundering what reason made you buy your fabia and what made you like it in the first place to go look at them!!!

Mine is that I've always had a slight soft spot for them and people who had them said they are bloody awesome! Any who had to change jobs which meant my um fuel efficient fiesta zetec s wasn't up for the job any more it was costing me £80 a week fuel! I gave into temptation went and got one... Oh and it's a bit different it's not a golf or and astra Sri cdti which everyone around by me and are similar age tend to pic!!!!

I got my fabias due to reliability and econemy, being my first car a fabia sdi it was perfect.

I love them! They are quite infectious too I bought mine then my best mate bought and SE but had to get rid due to personal reasons then my fiancées brother Bought an estate 1.9tdi pd100 and then my best mates cousin bought on (Smiggivrs) there awesome cars! It doesn't really matter weather it's an sdi 1.4, htp or Vrs there all as cool as ****!!!

Cos they sound like a Golf

Bought mine as they good engines and as above not golfs and my petrol turbo was draining my funds

Hi, traded in the Octty for our current Mk 1. The main driver behind it was to save a few quid longer term by trimming running costs & think we've pretty much achieved that. My wife loves it & I think it's pretty cool, just wish there was a bit more available under the right foot at times but on balance the pro's outweigh the con's ;)

Briskoda made me buy mine.

My wife had an SDI and I joined Brisky to learn more about our

first diesel car. Once I was on here all I read was 'vRS this' and 'vRS that'

so I went and bought my own :)

Haha sounds about right haha there good cars tho.... So who thinks there a good looking mota be it a Vrs or not!

I bought mine coz iv always had VAG.. mainly polos + when i needed an estate for the dog i wanted something with the polo chassis but bigger.. que the fabia estate ;)

Also the pd tdi engine.. easy to work on + pretty bombproof with tuning potential + MPG :)

It's small, bags of torque so feels quicker than it actually is as standard, cheap to tax and insure.... Ticks a lot of boxes for me

I wanted a Polo, but the purchase cost, insurance and spec on the Fabia was better. Also for the perceived reliability (I didn't benefit from this, at all, ever!).

i bought mine due to needing a bigger car and boot and cheaper to run than my yaris t sport

Because there's not another car that offers the same balance of power/economy and it's a very good value-for-money car imo.

My mate's Dad took me out in his, showed me what it was capable of. Then it was cheaper tax, insurance and good MPG.

cheaper alternative to an Ibiza. Also preferred looks. And a hybrid version came up at the right time!

My modded Leon Cupra was getting 26mpg and with a 250mile a week commute I needed something fun and economical

Mine was bargain of the century, so couldn't say no

I went in blind, hadn't heard of the vrs much before, probably just minimal exposure to the ads with the trouserpress etc.I don't think I had seen the JC / Top Gear analysis of the car, or if I had it hadn't really settled on me.

I really wanted a 1.4 16v as my dad had one and raved about it and I wanted to get something a bit quicker.

I wouldn't have even dreamed of getting one until they offered the 0% and it kind of opened the options up for me as I always tend to scrimp and save in case I needed to put money down on a house or something (but moved in with my wife who owns her house anyway so that changed outlook on spending quite a bit too)

The deals on the vrs were late 2006 and too good to be true so I went for it. Just over £11k for the actual car plus the 0% loan interest !!

So I was just a bit stunned when I had the car, and then drove it home, amazing having come from the 1.4 8v mpi which I daresay is very sluggish with complete flatspots in certain rev ranges (gotta be much slower than its actually capable of being).

Wouldn't regret that for a moment !

Plus the decision based on relatively cheap insurance and decent TAX couldn't really be complained about ( with the mpi being about £50 more expensive ).

Just as an aside, sorry not to thread pinch -

With my car now 6 years old I still really struggle with ideas on replacing for maybe something newer ?.....I'm sure a thread on that would lead to pages of suggestions and I still don't know if I'd be truly settled with the idea.

I WAS sold on the idea of the octy 1.8 tsi se plus following the round of offers on octies, but what do you know...they have all sold .....

So just to put into context, the reasons that made me buy are also the reasons that keep me "stuck" with the car too ! lol

EDIT: I thought you said bought a VRS. As I said earlier we have been much a Fabia family anyway, my car was the MPI before that which I myself drove for 4 yrs, then wife had it and finally replaced a few years ago with....yes, a newer fabia lol

Because I wanted something reliable but being Yorkshire bred did not want to pay over the odds - I previously ran a Citroen ZX N/A then a Turbo diesel, with the usual French mechanical reliability but inbuilt electrical niggles, then "upgraded" to a Xsara HDI which was great until the electrical niggles started to be engine electrical limp home mode niggles which are dificult to trace, even with Lexia. I started to look at C3 HDI's but they appear overpriced and started to read write-ups on Skodas in Diesel car magazine where they were always praised. My brother had an Estelle years ago and while they are crude, it was reliable and drove like a go-cart, cornering absolutelly flat. I travel 22 miles each way to work so also need economy and initially started to look for a 1.9 100bhp PD as I have a drive over Saddleworth Moor to work which is a long climb in both directions - but a 56 plate 1.4 70bhp PD turned up at the right price on Enay, only problem was it was in Southampton, I live near Manchester. Won it (£2.7K), travelled down on the train to pick it up and have not looked back since - it will climb up Saddleworth Moor at 60mph with the cruise control engaged and has averaged 56mpg over the last 2 years. I would still like to try a 100bhp, but maybe Blacksmoke will be the interim answer.

Mine was bargain of the century, so couldn't say no

I had a bargain too, 86k full history 04 plate £2300

reason i picked fabia vrs, heard off a friend that very good on fuel and performance. I liked the look and style of the car, its got that meaty look at the front. nice and small for parking in my street, its very practicable, ok to work on, (minimum mechanical experience) i've been on here for a couple of weeks and the amount of ugrades that can be carried out and the cost seems quite reasonable. to me well built car with vw backing.

I wanted a nice Skoda that would shock other drivers with a tune up.

Where else can you get the best of both worlds? great economy and a decent bit of get up and go.

Nothing else even comes close, don't know what I'll replace it with, probably just restore it when the time comes.

I really like the gloomy black interior :giggle: I just wish they fitted sports seat covers as an optional extra.

Bought mine because ;

Its cheap to run with good MPG (even after a remap), tax and not bad on insurance

Its a cheap VW :-)

Fast

And when stood looking head on, or have this in your rear view mirror..it looks awesome!
