Looking to Buy MK2 vRS - What's it Like?

Featured Replies

If you're concerned about mpg , get a cr diesel. They still do 8.5 to 60 and a brilliant to drive. It's very smooth in power delivery and doesnt drive like a regular diesel, it can rev to 6000! It also sounds pretty nice for a derv when its beinf worked. A remap will take you to 200 easily.

Rev to 6000??????????? Typo surely, mine reds at 5000 but changes at slightly below this i think with dsg. Pointless going too high anyway as power drops off. The highest revving diesel i thought wwas the new mazda skyactiv diesel that revs to 5500rpm. I dont kbnow this for sure but i havemt heard of another diesel that revs higher. I will happily stand corrected though if facts are produced.

I've gone from a Smelly Diesel to a petrol, 11 plate Tsi but the Proper ones have the DSG gearbox, just like mine and are Yellow An Utter Dream The End

  • Mine was remapped anyway, but the ecu standard map is tuned to use 98, ( as it says on the petrol cap ) , if they introduced a lower Octane of diesel to use in your " vRS " Diesel would you use that J

  • I've written a bunch of stuff about my octavia on my blog on pistonheads, but to answer your questions: Petrol consumption - averaging 33ish overall. you can get 37-8 easily on a run. Common faults

Do these mk2 vRS versions have Front or/and Back heated screens? Just wondered how they cope in the cold weather!

on a side note... still looking for one, missed out on 2 great one's recently and potentially one on the radar. Nearly 2 months to find a decent one now!

Rear demist only. I think the Superb is the only one in the range with a heated front screen, the Mk3 will probably have the option.

I think Ford's patent on the front screen has recently expired so it's appearing on more and more cars now.

Without winter tyres don't expect too much in the snow. I've managed through some pretty awful stuff on new summer tyres. Depends how much experience you have in the white stuff.

Test drove one of these seemed great.

Been looking at 2010 versions of these also, 40k+ miles seems to come in at 10-11K but what big bills are in store for a 3 year old car of that age? is it better to pay 12K ish and get one with 8-15k on the clock?

They don't like coil packs after a remap!

Other than that, and the fact mine is sat on the driveway sulking..........................they are awesome! Best car I've owned.

Best car I've ever owned, even if I have one that sips the devils juice. Feels very different to drive than my previous standard Octy.

best of luck... you won't be sorry you bought one, but be careful of speeed creep!

I agree, the vRS is a different beast altogether from a "standard" Octavia. A much improved beast in my humble opinion as everything seems much tighter and better controlled. That said, the standard Octavia is far from being a pig to drive but I wouldn't have considered anything other than the vRS spec for my own tastes.

You can get the coil packs replaced on the recall if is before a 58 plate

thread update....

Been to look at at an 07 Octavia vRS today, which appears to run very well, regular servicing, Eagle F1 tyres, new brake disks etc. Only downside is there's 2 marks which appear to be limestone, which would be the only reason I can think of to haggle him down.

He's valuing the car at £7000 (mileage is ~60k). In my opinion, that is far off the mark, but he doesn't seem to think so. I personally would pay £6500 absolute tops with the paint work included on that. Parkers value it around £6500 I believe for a good condition trade.

Anyone got any advice on how I could make a case to bring the price down?

Show him the Parkers valuation, tell him you could pay £6500 tops and if no success walk away. Explain that it is out of warranty etc etc

He probably already knows it is valued at £6500 and added on £500 for wiggle room.

Cash is king (especially in this financial climate) - you are currently holding the best playing hand.

The way I usually do it is to walk in with cash in pocket and tell them the facts as soon as I walk in the door--I'm buying a car today it's either yours or someone else's. that usually swims it, it's quite funny how dealers react when you say thanks but no thanks. I got a grand off of a 2010 low mileage vrs that was already pretty well priced. Just told them what I wanted and that I would be buying today from someone-deal done!

My 2p worth, they are extremely nice to drive. It drives pretty much identically to a MK5 Golf GTi. Weighty steering, sharp brakes. Didnt get to throw it around much but felt extremely planted.

I was actually staggered how much nicer it felt than my current Fabia vRS estate, wasnt expecting it at all.

That's way too much, but good luck to him.

I've an 07 and I was only getting £5500 at trade in over a year ago with 50k on the clock and the timing belt water pump and big 4yr service just done, I'd expect £4500 if I tried now.

For £7k on an 07 I'd be wanting a very low mileage mint car with a year's warranty.

Holy Moo £7k?? planet madness. £5k tops and that's mint from a dealer with a warranty. Do your research, ebay and autotrader is your friend. Print them off and take them with you.

Bear in mind you can get an almost near as dammit brand new ex demo for £16k ish right now. The FGMV for a 3 yr old / 60k car is £4.5k, add 10% for a bit of equity that's factored in £5k tops. Do not pay £7k unless it's so incredibly mint and some.

I bought my 06 plate, in good condition with FSH and 90k on the clock for 4k!

That does seem overpriced!

Wardy~ if you are not in a huge rush then I will have the following for sale within the next 3-6 months which will definitely be in your price bracket:

2.0 TFSI Octavia 2007/56 Estate in Race Blue. Manual box, on 75k at present but will rise a little. Full main dealer history services at approx. 16k, 32k, 42k, 52k, 62k and 72k. Next service (82k) already paid for on a service plan. XENON's, Cruise, Dual Climate, 18's, aftermarket colour coded rear sensors, rear electric windows, jumbo box, detachable Westfalia tow-bar with single (Skoda) electric kit - only used to tow a tiny trailer. 2 previous keepers (1st Skoda plus 1 other private). I'm on the South Coast and near Soton Airport for people coming long-distance.

Let me know if that is of interest. Like I say it will be 3-6 months before I sell and I'll be listing it on here exclusively at first.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I'm aware it's highly priced so wouldnt sven considert offering close to that 7k. I think I may just be more patient (been looking for about 4 months now), as I saw a couple of amazing ones going around £5k, which I lost out on as they were both sold the day before I viewed!

Re: above post - thanks for the reply, il bare that in mind, although really looking for a hatchback rather than estate. Does sound good though :)

I've got bookmarks on autotrader, piston heads, parkers, eBay, gum tree it's crazy how little blue ones there are out there (mk2) !

Hi Wardy

Me and thee in the same boat then but you have added advantage over budget than me so it won't be an out and out race if we both see a good one at the same time. Great thread though as it's answered all my Q's too so again sorry for the hijack.

Thanks to all thats helped me too.

This would be right up my street in that sort of time frame.

Please remember to give me a shout when it comes up for sale. I'm in Leeds but if you are near an airport then no problems flying down to pick up.

Thanks,

Dave

Have you seen the one down in Bexhill on Sea that's up for £5995? Baring it mind you're in the Kent area, I would of definitely gone to see it if it wasn't so far away! Looks a superb example:

Looks bloody tidy that; have noticed it has Xenons, Light assist and what look like factory rear sensors. Shed load of car for the money

Certainly worth a trip IMO. Looks really clean.

Its got maxidot to,its well spec'd up & a tidy looking car,lot of car for the money,id check its had a cambelt change, seeing a race blue all polished up reminds me i must do mine when the weather improves! ;)

Don't know if this info is too late but, another thing to listen out for is a ratlle when starting on the 2.0 TFSI engines - the ones with a timing chain. I heard the rattle from several cars when I was looking to buy, but didn't realise the potential for damage.

If the rattle lasts for more than a couple of seconds, BEWARE - the timing chain tensioner has backed off too much over night and this leaves the possibility of the chain jumping before the tensioner gets to pressure. When this happened to my 2009 VRS 9 days before the warranty expired, it cost Skoda a new engine - 8 bent inlet valves and four marked pistons!! All the damage was caused when starting the engine.

It's a known fault and there is a VW/SKODA bulletin for this to get the tensioner changed.

Check out the GTI forums as well.

Good luck :whew:
