Looking to Buy MK2 vRS - What's it Like?

Featured Replies

I notice a difference (in character and mpg) between super and normal when using supermarket fuel. I think that says more about the poor quality of supermarket 95RON than anything else. From non-supermarkets I can't say I notice anything.

And I agree the Octy VRS isn't a race car or even a hot hatch really. It's a bit fat, heavy and quiet for that.

It's a cheap GT

I've gone from a Smelly Diesel to a petrol, 11 plate Tsi but the Proper ones have the DSG gearbox, just like mine and are Yellow An Utter Dream The End

  • Mine was remapped anyway, but the ecu standard map is tuned to use 98, ( as it says on the petrol cap ) , if they introduced a lower Octane of diesel to use in your " vRS " Diesel would you use that J

  • I've written a bunch of stuff about my octavia on my blog on pistonheads, but to answer your questions: Petrol consumption - averaging 33ish overall. you can get 37-8 easily on a run. Common faults

I may just try it for 3-4 fills up and see if I notice any difference. After all, it does recommend using it on the petrol cap and there's no harm trying it out :)

I actually found for the first few months after buying mine, it had a habit of belching black smoke out (despite being a petrol VRS) when giving it the beans. This seems to have gone away now I'm nearly a year into ownership and I can't help but think this was down to the engine being sooted up from the previous owner using cheap / 95RON fuel. I've run it almost entirely on 97/98RON in the 10 months I've had it and have noticed that the black smoke doesn't seem to be an issue any more.

I run mine on super unleaded (it says to on the fuel cap on a tfsi) & it runs way better & goes better than on regular unleaded & i get better mpg so its a no brainer for me which fuel i use. The tsi can run on regular unleaded.

Comment on a car you own Jock you have not got a TFSI

The pre FL TFSI engine was designed to obtain better performance from using 98RON over 95, it says so in the handbook (assuming it's not all just Skoda lies). The FL TSI engine doesn't benfit from it (again same caveat). If you remap either engine, depending on who did it*, you'll see a noticeable improvement from using 98+ RON

*Some remaps have specific RON settings, others are either ON (and OK for 95 and upwards) or OFF (as in std map installed)

Ill comment on any car i wish thanks. . If the lower "cetane" diesel became available as you stated then i probably would use it if it was cheaper. Dont need to talk to any mapper either. Yes super unleaded will make a difference what i meant was it wont make a massive improvement and in my experiences the differences werent even noticable at all. In my S3 i couldnt tell the difference between fuels and it was more highly tuned than the TFSI in the VRS which im not allowed to comment on. I used to run my scooby on 95 but then ran it on 98 after ecotek rempa so any differences i felt were due to the remap rather than the fuel. By all means use super unleaded, its a free country, just in my experience of cars of this level of tune it doesnt really make a difference.

Question people...

There doesn't appear to be an aux or USB connection in the car. Any ideas how I might play mp3 through the stereo? Don't want to consider Bluetooth btw as I've experienced this before and it's shocking!

Ps loving the car to bits!

There is a 3.5mm jack in the armrest (if you've got the jumbo box) that functions as the AUX.

doesn't look like I have it. Checked it again and definitely can't see anything there!

Any ideas?
