Fabia 1.2 TSI DSG7, mild rattling engine noise when cold, changes pitch with rpm

Featured Replies

Hi,

Car: Skoda Fabia II 1.2 TSI DSG7, 3000 Km

I notied when starting in the morning (i.e, when the engine is cold) a mild ratling noise comes from the engine compartment. The noise changes pitch with changing rpm. It lasts for about 1 minute and then progressively is muted. I think this noise started developing progressively since when I bought the car I could not hear it.

Yes, the engine has always being a bit rougher at cold start, like most cars, but without this rattling pich changing noise. The car has now 3,000 Km on the clock (bought it new in July).

Note: When starting the car when the engine is warm, there is no rattling noise.

The sound is rythmic, like a chain (without trying to lead the readers that the problem is the timing chain).

Any ideas what might be ?

Thanks.

Probably timing chain, known issue for some 1.2 TSIs. Mine had the same issue, after new chain it runs smooth...

On other cars I have owned under bonnet rattling has been down to a split heat shield. Is it possible this is the cause?
