As long as you're happy with it :)

BTW how does it compare Insurance wise for you ?

A classic for sure, nice one.

Nice choice!

Much more of a "drivers" car, as you say. No traction control, no ABS, no power steering (apart from the later ones), no electronic dif lock. Good old fashioned driving sensations!

I used to have a '90 valver & I do miss it from time to time. Nice car & a classic IMO.

Over the years I owned it, I started to tinker & it was a fantastic car to drive. Would have loved to keep it for a track day car.

Enjoy!

A bargain.Looks nice and clean. How has the interior stood up to the years?

Enjoy the motor (wheels look a bugger to clean!)

has to be said im jealous now ;) great choice of car mate.

trying to put off the idea of buying one myself

Nice choice :D Just don't put diesel in it ;)

Get yourself a 2.0 Fabia...exactly the same engine...:D

Cheers guys.

The condition looks good for its age.... can't wait to get in it.

Does anyone have the full specifications for it? i.e. top speed, 0-60, kerb weight, etc etc?

I know it's pretty heavy...about 1,400kgs...0-100 in 9 seconds or something...

1400 kgs for a 15 year old car with no power steering, no electric windows, no abs, no traction control, 3 doors and a simple 1.8 litre engine?

That doesnt sound very likely at all to me, thats nearly 100 kg more than the Fabia vRS and thats one extremely heavy car! If it was that heavy, I wouldnt be able to steer it!!!

It's pretty heavy all this considering, but I would've said about a tonne, not as much as 1400kgs.

Rob.

Not sure what year yours is - but look here for some technical data. An 85 is 907 kg, a 91 is 1140 kg.

Mines an earlier one than the 1991 version, absolutely nothing at all to speak of as "features". Not even central locking!

I test drove two, and the first one seemed noticably slower than the second to me.

Yeah the pic of the 91 looked newer - but I'm not a big expert on the model years for Golfs - guess yours is 907 kg then! :D

I've been toying with getting a mk2 Golf as well. But not a GTi, just a GTD 80bhp turbo diesel. It should free some money up for me to get a place etc but like yours, no leccy stuff.

Damn fine cars they are though, and top rims on it too. Any plans on the styling front?

Its going to be left standard, appearance wise. I wouldnt want to ruin such an iconic car by chavving it up :D

I dunno about chavving it up, but a nice front grille and smart rear lights can add some subtle changes and smarten a nice car up. Or are you going to fit the leccy stuff first then see? You should find www.clubgti.co.uk and www.golfgti.co.uk could help with spare parts.

A wise choice Paul. Post some better pics up when you get time.

I've got a handful of Golf bits 'n' bobs laid about the garage (incl new rear brake pads) that you can have if you want. There might even be a genuine set of rubber floor mats aswell.

I approve of your choice. It's a classic!

This was my Valver before I sold her:-

Had M3 style rear lights & a full Jetex exhaust too. Nice subtle mods made it look really nice!

Why is it called a "valver"? Surely all cars have valves ...
