Does the octy get a Liminted slip diff?

Nope. It will have some sort of electronic psuedo diff no doubt. :(

  • Can't see that anyone has posted this yet, so though I'd pop it up. New video out today.  I noticed I was the second view.   Have to say, it looks good.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WbzoVrIZ

  • Can you not take this to a new thread. I'm subscribed on here for mkiii vrs updates. Not the age old argument of diesel vs petrol. Christ you'll be slagging off macs and pc's next :(

  • I will never understand those that defend their own car make by slagging other makes off. OK, if you've had a particularly bad experience with a certain car make, tell the story, etc. but don't sugge

It's been officially stated for a while now: 340 front and 272 rear.

Where has it been stated and by who? Id find it a genuine shocker if it came standard with that setup when its not even standard on the Golf GTi! :)

@kenny, no. Only the XDS electronic software one.

@thunderbolt1066, how did you manage to get one so early, even before Goodwood with no configs & stuff? Is that a demo car? I heard demo cars in the UK will only be available in September?

@Yeti_Man, it's on the German website and I've seen it mentioned on some other websites too. That's what the base GTI gets and the Perf Pack gets even larger ones (larger fronts 350 and larger and ventilated back 310)

No one knows. It was available to order in Slovenia since early June. Few pages back you could see that it was available at dealer. The add is not available anymore. Who knows why.

Sorry, that's incorrect. The standard Golf GTi comes with 312mm x25mm disks - the Performance pack gets them upgraded to a 340mm x 30mm setup. The rears also get vented disks on the PP upgrade too. Hence why Id be astonished if the Octavia got a 340mm setup as standard. :)

Well then it looks like it gets a combo of front GTI PP brakes and base GTI rear brakes.

Wherever it's getting the brakes from, it's stated on the Skoda website as 340 front and 272 rear. :)

I think TudorM is right. The is no logic, i know, but look at the size of the disk on this 17'' rim:

Can you provide this link as I certainly cant see it on the Skoda UK site - thanks.

Giggs - I agree that looks like a 340mm setup or similar but theres been a lot of Skoda making the marketing cars look better than production cars for some time now so Id just like to see where they actually state the UK cars will come with that setup. DOnt get me wrong - I'll be chuffed to bits if it does. :)

Spoke to my local dealer here in Edinburgh last week.  The message from SUK is that the dealers will have vRS demo cars by 1 August.

Ive been through the German site and indeed, the German spec VRS is listed as coming with 340mm front disks! Wondering if it will be the same for the UK car now or whether its a mistype. :wonder:

Its interesting as Skoda saw fit to issue the Mk2 VRS with the 312mm setup and this new car is just over 100kg lighter but gets a 340mm setup as standard (and is a further cost option on the more expensive Golf GTI, which previously has had the better hardware fitted...). Just doesnt add up to me. :wonder:

I highly doubt they would change the technical specs of the car! It's one thing to add a nav unit or some interior trim and another all together to fiddle with the brake setup. :) I think you needn't worry about that. Plus, like I said, it looks like a combo as the rear brakes for the O3 VRS are smaller (272) than the GTI PP ones (310).

Does anyone have the O2 VRS weight figures on hand?

Edited by TudorM

And O3 RS TSI is 1425kg with a 75kg driver, so empty it is 85kg lighter than O2 RS.

Do I see carbon fibre in that cabin (or more likely carbon fibre effect)? So long as it isnt the god awful triangular pattern they dumped in the MK2 VRS FL Im ok with that I guess. :) Full leather seats also?

Is the Golf even lighter still so can make do without the 340mm brakes? Maybe Skoda have pushed for this and VAG have relented on the basis the car wont be available with e-diff or bigger vented rears?

I can imagine VW and Skoda negotiation...

Skoda: we want 4x4 for vrs!
VW: No!
Skoda: e-diff then.
VW: No!
Skoda: Then performance pack brakes. Won't take 'no' for an answer!
VW: O.K. But only front ones.
Skoda: Here's a hand!
(shanking hands)

I think the e-diff will be optional at least.

Guys, this whole debate is pointless... Taken from the official specs:

Petrol - 0-100km/h in 6,8s and 80-120km/h in 4/5 gear in 5/6s

Diesel - 0-100km/h in 8,1s and 80-120km/h in 4/5 gear in 6/7,5s

Conclusion, petrol is faster off the line and in gear. Torque is 350Nm for petrol and 380Nm for diesel so basically the same. Diesel's advantage is economy (and not so much for a sporty model).

End of debate! Back to VRS updates... :)

[sARCASM]

No, no way, Diesel IS OBVIOUSLY faster

AND 0-60 times do not matter anyways, not a good measure of how fast the car is, something... errrr.... else surely is, like torque figure and .... there must be something :D  -

[/sARCASM]

I am sure the above will not convince all still...

Erm the power outputs of the engines are completely different so again an invalid comparison on petrol v diesel in your pointless tirade

Why the hell are you still banging on about diesel vs petrol. Ive already told you i have both and they are both relevant your obviously not even thinking about getting an octavia Yet insist on draging the topic away from what most of us are trying to find out about the new version so we can either buy one or avoid it and get something else that more suits our requirements etc. (Just having the same spec as the last one with tiny improvements in all areas would be enough for me im just making sure they haven't made and horendous omittions to the UK spec.

P.S Im normally for free speach and against heavy moderation in an open forum but you clearly can't moderate yourself and can't tell when everyone is fed up of your RANDOM opinions on the subject. Please on keep topic!!!!! Not everyone wants a tarted up shopping cart.

is the e-diff any good?
