Octavia vRS

Why does everyone like the Estate? The boot space in the hatch is massive i can't see a reason for requiring the estate unless you a) have a big dog or b.) move wardrobes for a living. Its a no brainer for me the hatch will always look better. Although that spoiler needs to go. Spose its personal taste but i just can't see the apeal of the estate from an aesthetic perspective.

  • Can't see that anyone has posted this yet, so though I'd pop it up. New video out today.  I noticed I was the second view.   Have to say, it looks good.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WbzoVrIZ

  • Can you not take this to a new thread. I'm subscribed on here for mkiii vrs updates. Not the age old argument of diesel vs petrol. Christ you'll be slagging off macs and pc's next :(

  • I will never understand those that defend their own car make by slagging other makes off. OK, if you've had a particularly bad experience with a certain car make, tell the story, etc. but don't sugge

Why does everyone like the Estate?

You don't get a load of rainwater in the boot on an estate each time you open it.

Plus you can get the proper panoramic sunroof :)

Or go completely ballistic/uber lazy and have the electric boot in the estate. And stand there with a daft look of self-indulgence while you watch it open and close. :P

Why does everyone like the Estate? .... Spose its personal taste...

Answered yourself there haven't you? It's personal taste. To my eyes an estate always just looks better proportioned. The fat arse hanging out the back of the hatch is just not that pretty (to my eyes). The rear overhang just looks too big. But ETTO.

I sat today in an O3 with a Bolero. Must say it looks much cheaper than the one in O2. It has smaller display and that piano black just doesn't feel right. Also those buttons stand out. And look at that gap between buttons and the screen.  :wonder:

From the angle that's been taken at it looks like it's been lifted out of the Nissan Juke!  I reckon Skoda supply a crap looking system as a ploy to get you to fork out more for the Columbus.  BMW do with their sat/nav infotainment systems - if you don't spend hundreds upgrading you're left with a giant ugly looking plastic blanking plate.

@Statto
Great answer!

Does anyone know if that annoying trait (dripping rainwater into the boot on opening the hatch) has actually been solved in this model ?

They'll probably pack a microfibre cloth onto a fuel lid. :D

Totally agree with this.

A hatchback car should look like a hatchback and not a saloon.

Now I have vrs hatch but order new vrs estate becouse looks much better.

When we were looking at getting the FL Octavia (ended up getting an S-Max for the space) we were going to go for the Hatch as it IMO looked the best and gave you just as much room as the estate if you didn't want to pack above the seat line.

Looking at the pictures I have seen I prefer the tarted up estate over the hatch - that said whether it looks better in the normal dress we will wait and see. Many of the press pictures might have had $$$ options which mean your looking at a 30K car!

Prefer the front 80% of the hatch with the back 20% of the estate :giggle:. Rear end of the hatch is a pigs ear.

Well, isn't the front 80% of both cars identical? :)

Front end of the estate and hatch is the same.

A hatchback car should look like a hatchback and not a saloon.

Someone should have told the Rapid designer this... :giggle:

Edit: I saw a new Octy 3 "hatch" driving jn front of me today. Dearie me it also looks like a sedan just like the Rapid. No no no. Defo Estate for me then.

No, not quite.

No, not quite.

Im intrigued. Whats different apart from the roof rails on the front part of the two formats?

Nothing, they're the same.

I've noticed few new features in our configurator.

- Selectable driving mode (Normal/Sport/ Eco/Individual) with a sound generator (clio rs alike?) - 118eur
- Active Cruise Control - 618 eur

- Blackpackage (rear mirrors, front grill trim, side window trim) - 3 eur

€618 for the Active Cruise is a bargain.  It's the one thing I wish my Yeti had.

I'm betting the sound generator is just for the diesel VRS, just like on the Golf GTD. Just 3 euros for the black pack though?

The only thing that would put me off buying the new Octavia Vrs is the stop/start function.

Nothing, they're the same.

Previous page, not quite the same.

Either way, I just meant I prefer the back end of the estate to the awful hatch rear.

sadly its the way they get the tax down..120 quid a year for a near 220 bhp car is brilliant

they have just introduced on the rs megane and its cut it by about 2 tax brackets...in the real world people probably just turn it off ( I can in the mito QV)
