Why would you be put off by something that can be simply turned off?

  • Can't see that anyone has posted this yet, so though I'd pop it up. New video out today.  I noticed I was the second view.   Have to say, it looks good.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WbzoVrIZ

  • Can you not take this to a new thread. I'm subscribed on here for mkiii vrs updates. Not the age old argument of diesel vs petrol. Christ you'll be slagging off macs and pc's next :(

  • I will never understand those that defend their own car make by slagging other makes off. OK, if you've had a particularly bad experience with a certain car make, tell the story, etc. but don't sugge

The only thing that would put me off buying the new Octavia Vrs is the stop/start function.

Most car manufacturers utilise start / stop technology, it's all about bringing down headline pollution and economy figures. Even Porsche - although at least in their cars selecting sport mode deactivates it.

Can you disable stop/start? I know on our ASX you couldn't. You could for the journey but not permanently

Pressing one button is hardly a work - up. I doubt if you can officially because that may put the car out of spec emission wise. I personally don't mind it, had it in a BMW 123d M Sport five years ago and you just get used to it.

I can switch my A6 one on and off not sure about octy but other cars like Q5 and passat u can

There's a button on the console next to the gear lever to turn it on/of, if I'm not mistaken.

True but if you want if off its annoying. Putting your keys in the door to unlock is easy, putting your keys in the ignition to start is easy but these are all becoming a thing of the past. I've driven a few cars with it and just found it annoying.

You can permanently turn off DRLs yet they are a mandatory part of any new car so I don't see why you shouldn't be able to turn it off. It won't affect real workd emissions or for mots as it's not tested for.

Not half as annoying at sitting at traffic light with the engine idling wastefully IMO...

Would you be prepared to pay the extra VED if you had the facility to completely and permanently disable the auto stop start?

Its not really quite as clear cut as that though is it. You may find that it does not make a difference to the VED. Start/Stop is not a free capability. It requires a lot of development to work correctly and as some manufacturers have found they can still get the same rating for a car without Start/Stop by spending the extra money on improving the whole efficiency of the car. I would much rather have a car that was 2%/3% more efficient ALL the time than more efficient when stopped (which in terms of the journey actually accounts to a very small amount due to the low idle on the cars)

Uhm, are we still in the VRS topic here? You know, the one about cars with 184-220 bhp and 350-380 Nm of torque and 0-60 times of under 7 seconds... Are we? Anyone? :)

It is clear cut really, one of the reasons why the VED is low on these new generation vehicles is because of new technologies, the cumulative impact of which gives lower VED. If Skoda had said "we're not implementing stop start", then they would have to suffer the consequences.

I don't understand the fuss, disable it per use, or get used to it, or buy a car without stop start (and lots of other new tech) and put up with the VED.

Amen, apols for getting drawn in to the trivia.

I concur!!!

I think I want a red diesel estate (or maybe green!). not sure what interior to get though. think I should be brave and take the red instead of grey. alloys I will have to wait for skoda uk before I decide! !

Hopefully I have started to get the thread back on track !! lol

Seeing how the interior is a sea of black, I personally would go for the red stitching. The contrast is much better with the red than the grey, in my eyes.

My colleague who is up for company car renewal went into a dealer today who didn't have a lot of info on the vRs. However he mentioned a figure of £23k for the hatch. I am trying to convince my colleague to choose a vRS over a Mazda 6 or an Insignia...no brainer for me unless you are Mr Photocopier Salesman!

Sorry to be off-topic, but just had to say, if you don't want stop-start, just disable it with VCDS. I've not seen mention of people doing this on MQB platforms but people have successfully disabled it via VCDS on other VAG platforms.

Mazda 6 MPS is not a bad motor.

Is Stop-Start still working with DSG box I manual mode?

I drove few cars with Stop-Start feature and I did not find it to be any problem whatsoever, even when driven briskly.

Hmmmnn, I wonder what trade in deal I could get with my OctyIII Eleg against a new Race Blue vRS hatch?

@Jabozuma, going from the car's manual the system works with the DSG in all modes (auto or tiptronic). I think it works if the box is in D/S, can't remember about N. I definitely doesn't stop the engine if you're in R.

Awful. You'd probably lose up to 30%.

Wow, serious question? You can't have had it more than a month or so?

Matt, why don't you just "spice" it up a little bit with the front spoiler lip and rear spoiler add-on from the official accessories instead? Maybe get the Turini 18" wheels in black, or the 17" Hawk wheels in silver/black? With the engine/spec you have, there's really no point in switching to a VRS now surely...
