Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

If you want a GTi go for it otherwise no matter how good the vRS is you will always be thinking "What if I went for the GTi"

I know mate, but it's a case of deciding how much I realistically want to spend on a car when I have other things going on like having to buy a bigger house etc. I have to buy the GTI at some stage, but I also have to be a bit sensible with my money and feel I can justify it to her indoors. We'll see!

  • Can't see that anyone has posted this yet, so though I'd pop it up. New video out today.  I noticed I was the second view.   Have to say, it looks good.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WbzoVrIZ

  • Can you not take this to a new thread. I'm subscribed on here for mkiii vrs updates. Not the age old argument of diesel vs petrol. Christ you'll be slagging off macs and pc's next :(

  • I will never understand those that defend their own car make by slagging other makes off. OK, if you've had a particularly bad experience with a certain car make, tell the story, etc. but don't sugge

The only Reason to pick a GTI over a Leon FR in my book is if you are adding the GTI performance pack. That is what makes all the difference for the golf over the Leon and vRS

working on the online VW finance calc for the golf

£5k deposit

10000miles per year

golf GTi

£3800 extras

36month deal

monthly price £431........eek

Just had a wee look at skoda.co.uk at some pics and the equipment levels....how comes there's no front fogs? looks a bit bland at the front without the !! And £2100 for a columbus satnav!!!! Aye right!!!

Kit :)

Makes me laugh they want 300 quid for front assistant. Christ I can happily live without it but that with ACC you're looking at 1050 quid! Outrageous given this is standard fayre on a 22k MK7 Golf

The Golf gets a lot of toys as standard, same spec vRS to Golf is much closer price wise than it was with the MkII

All the Audi RS models (to name but one top spec sporty model) have not had separate front fogs for eons now...  so Škoda is just aping them.

And if you do see "fogs" on them they are in fact the adaptive cruise control eye:

Yeh, but you're not gonna order at list price. You want to take 10% off the list before you start the calculator.

You're welcome to you're opinion but there are all sorts of reasons why people would choose the Golf over the Octavia. Heritage. Smaller size. Higher standard spec. Performance (even without the pack). It's horses for courses of course, but the Golf is clearly a different sort of car to the Octavia.

Aye but the front of that Audi looks good!!! Wher as the VRS....mmm... just not so sure!!

yeh, I think the Golf gti spec is very generous compared to the Octavia this time round. However, now we know that the same sort of discount is available on the two cars, the Octavia's 0% pcp with free servicing scores points over the Golf's 6.3% plus £199 servicing and makes the Octavia good value if you can live with the lower spec.

Leon FR isnt comparable to the GTI?

The same will be applicable to the vRS tho!

I'm just working on book prices of both as both will discount by 10% or about £70-90 pm

Lovely looking car that! The Vrs is not very aggressive looking like this, even the mkll was more aggressive :)

Does the VRS have any bluetooth as standard? Seen a bluetooth+ option in the configuration but can't see anything about bluetooth is the standard spec list.

Bluetooth is standard across the range and the vRS is built off of the SE, so it should be included.

I know that, but you were just saying the Golf was expensive at £400 a month and I thought it worthwhile pointing out that you need to discount the list before calculating figures.

yeah fair point, on that basis the Golf works out at £340-350pm and the vRS at £220-230pm guestimate

That's the exact debate I'm having with myself right now.  Green, or yellow.

Well if you go Green do not spec the Red seat trim, Red and Green isn't the best combo (although Skoda love it) Green with the silver seat inserts would look better.

Just got home from my Skoda dealer.

Have ordered a hatch back with the petrol engine.

I went for black magic color with the red trim for seats.

Extras:

Black design pack for exterior

Parkingsensor front and back

KESSY

Sunset

Gemini 18" antracite

Canton sound system

Preliminary production week 41.

Leon FR isnt comparable to the GTI?

Same Engine in the diesel, Same boot size, same overall size.

But the FR is cheaper and with a far higher equipment spec.

As a result I firmly believe the only reason to buy the Golf would be for the performance pack. In the main I would guess the motoring press agree. The Leon has had superb reviews, with all saying why buy the Golf when this is cheaper. Unless of course you want the performance pack

As for the vRS then I had them in the past for performance/space, but find the new car is now too big, ugly from the back, and no longer the bargain it was, which is why I went the Leon FR 184 route.

With regards to the petrol GTi then the FR doesn't have an equivalent yet, but the 260BHP Cupra is on its way, which could be interesting

Out of interest ... what are you adding to the Golf spec to get the list price up that much? I would have gladly taken a base GTI as it comes with the adaptive cruise, xenons, front and rear sensors, bluetooth, media interface, folding mirrors etc all as standard.

Some people like an integrated sat nav I know but I just use my phone now. I know the performance pack will be seen as a must have by many.

Are the parking sensors extra? I assumed they were standard!

How much of a discount did you negotiate?

Same Engine in the diesel, Same boot size, same overall size.

Well, for a start some people might simply prefer the Golf! The cars do look a bit different and the interiors are also different to some degree.

As you said, there is no petrol Leon with the Golf GTI engine yet, so it's only the GTD Golf model which has a Leon competitor.

I wouldn't say the Leon has a far higher spec either. Items standard on the Golf are extras on the Leon, eg 18" wheels, adaptive cruise, xenons and digital radio. Seat have temporarily improve the Leon by offering the tech pack (xenons, dab, basic nav) for free, but this is a temporary offer and still leaves the Leson missing some of the Golf features. Admittedly, there doesn't look to be too much between the specs with the current Seat offer, but I think you're exaggerating when you say the Leon spec is "far higher".

GTi is a petrol, that's the whole point.

Yeh, and disappointingly Seat aren't doing an FR with the 2.0TSI like they have done previously.
