Octavia vRS

What negative equity at the end of a PCP? If the car is worth less than the mgfv you can hand it back and owe nothing and walk, but of course you know that as a dealer. If you wanted to change manufacturer and the new dealer wouldn't give you enough to pay off the mgfv the sensible thing would be to hand the thing back and start again. No equity to roll over but certainly not trapped.

The mgfv is lower on the octavia than the golf because its residual values are a lot weaker -fact. mgfvs are chosen very carefully by the manufacturer.

Granted about handing the car back, but let's say there's negative equity of £1,000, will the finance company just accept this and wipe their hands of it and put it down to experience? Maybe they will, but they will want to re-coup as much back on the car as possible.

Thus any damages, excess wear and tear or mileage, the customer will be liable for.

Completely agree with the residual on the VW, this has always been  the case whether it be finance or 'cash', when I first started driving I wanted a used Polo, no such luck as they had held their prices very well.

  • Can't see that anyone has posted this yet, so though I'd pop it up. New video out today.  I noticed I was the second view.   Have to say, it looks good.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WbzoVrIZ

  • Can you not take this to a new thread. I'm subscribed on here for mkiii vrs updates. Not the age old argument of diesel vs petrol. Christ you'll be slagging off macs and pc's next :(

  • I will never understand those that defend their own car make by slagging other makes off. OK, if you've had a particularly bad experience with a certain car make, tell the story, etc. but don't sugge

Is the future value a " Guaranteed " figure? It's a while back now but when I worked for a Ford dealership our Options scheme was guaranteed with a minimum value but with some finance company schemes the figure was just offset until the end of the term it didn't mean the car was worth that.. I haven't read all the terms & conditions but in the finance example it just mentions an Optional Final Payment. Doesn't mention anything about it being a fixed value.

If is a GFV then yes, you can just hand it back.

Maybe the guy generating the spec of the car ' Just forgot' to add cruise to the list as he was having a very bad day :D

Had a though - I wonder if the Colour maxidot is a VCDS setting given the small cost , specially as the cornering fogs option on FL was similar price & as most of us FL owners know it can be switched on by VCDS.

I have a question for all those who are very interested in a new vRS -  If you have a garage will it fit ?   It wont fit in mine as the FL only just fits

A good question.  I know the mk3 VCDS options are already available, so I'll ask Mike if it's in there when I see him on Sunday.

As with the cornering fogs, it's pretty shameful to charge for it if it is.

Fair point but they'd probably pull my pants down on my part ex, gotta be making their money somewhere.

Have to say though im in two minds to keep my BL longer term pay the final payment and give it to the wife and possibly not buy another Skoda next time.

As someone said above if you can get a nearly new C220 AMG Sport for the same sort of money (that would have amounted to a good 32-33k car new) then thats more like value to me. I wouldnt want to pay much more than 20-21k for any Skoda, 24-25k is not value for money in my book.

That however is not a fair comparison. Once the new vRS is available at "nearly new" then you can compare like for like. A brand new car is always going to look less attractive cost wise than something "nearly new" and the Merc will have taken a nice hefty depreciation.

If there was a Mk3 vRS available at the same age as the Merc in question then you'd see a far better price comparison.

but what if your immediate concern is cost to buy, right now?

Surely then you're entitled to make a comparison between a brand new car of a "cheaper" type, with a used car which would have been more expensive new, but is now within your budget ?

It's not a "price" comparison being done in that case (how much does each car cost), it's a value comparison (how much car for the money)

I was wondering how the traffic lane thingy would work on the standard maxidot ie not colour? All the pics I've seen for it have been with colour icons on the central display

There's example images in the manual, for both the monochrome and the color Maxidot. The same for the ACC.

thatll explain it, thanks :)

Im taking out a petrol dsg next week to try out the dsg system.  Will hopefully get to try a diesel too to compare them

Come back with impressions! :)

Come back with impressions! :)

certainly will.  It did look very nice on the forecourt and the salesman had been very impressed with it.

I like the new layout inside and the new seats certainly feel a lot comfier than the mkii.  Steering wheel is lovely but there was one 2cm x 6cm gob of plastic inserted into the dash which looked bloody awful. Its behind and to the right of the steering wheel and looks like it should house the brightness wheel for the displays?

New bolero looks a bit crap compared to the old one due to the smaller screen size.

Got nothing to do with being fair...what would I rather own a 6 month old 34k barely used premium (and nice spec) german car for 11k less than it would have listed for new or a new Czech car with nothing frankly better going for it at 24-25k, no contest.

Also found out that my 20k 6 month old Octavia Blackline would part ex for about 16750 at my local dealers and so would likely go up at the 18k mark.....2k off a 6 month old used Skoda??....come on people is this madness or what?! Im not complaining in a sense as my car owes roughly what its worth after only 6 months on the road which is good....but not if you were buying it!

Ordering mine tomorrow, managed to get £2690 off list from my local dealer

Agree with the used octy price but great news for you :) lol

Each to their own on the merc front, I shop differently for cars and premium brand high priced cars at cheaper prices don't tip the scales for me.

34k premium brand car for 23k at 6months old doesn't tempt me at all, that would only be relevant to me if I loved the car to start with

I picked my current car on everything but the brand and accociated value even tho it was similar to discount you give on the merc lol

Each to their own tho mate

Good stuff. And were you "allowed" the 0% finance?

Good stuff. And were you "allowed" the 0% finance?

Yes 0% pcp 10,000miles per year for 36months.

I have a 62 plate Blackline estate DSG with just under 6k on the clock and wondered what opportunity might exist to get out of that and into a new TSi manual hatch with a bit of spec.

Spoke to my dealer and basically the Blackline stacks up better part ex than I thought it would, owing just under 17k and being worth trade 16,750 so probably could find a couple of hundred quid in a deal to walk away from the car. Problem stems from new 0% offer. I didnt want to put any additional capital into the car, put 2.5k down on the BL but only 750 of that was my own money.

Told the dealer in order to make the change worth my while and the numbers to work in my favour I'd need to walk away from my car and get approx 10-12% off the new one and they were unable to oblige. Said elsewhere on here but VWFS have reclaimed the money they would have lost from the 0% by getting Skoda to reduce the dealer margins in the cars by the same amount; essentially id save probably save 12-1500 in interest payments but no discount possible on the car.

Decided that it'll have to wait a while; no great tragedy as the BL is so good im not at all desperate to move it on, not for a new vRS anyway.

Thats very similar to me, if I get a good discount of around 10%, and buy my negative equity out (I think I am around £800) then I would swap as with the discount and the 0% it would be in my interests, new car, lower payments and each payment making the owed balance go down, but my local dealer said to me that he could do both, so thats me staying in my car at the moment to be honest, no major problems, love my car but fancied the toys of teh newer car.

Great deal :)

Also if you do drive one - listen out for the odd sound that the speakers make when you reach higher revs! it's quite a strange noise maybe because a TDI can only sound like a TDI and not a race car! Not sure if it was meant to do it but It felt very false to me...

Speakers making a noise at high revs in a TDI? Stuff that, what has the world come too. I can't ever imagine buying a car that emits fake engine noise played through the speakers....

It didn't feel right for sure!

Has anyone drove the tdi yet,how does it compare power wise to the current 170? Iv heard no reports from test drives yet.

Yes 0% pcp 10,000miles per year for 36months.[/quotes]

What a surprise! And there were some dealers claiming buyers weren't allowed a discount and 0% finance. What a load of *******s!

Hope you get your car soon and enjoy it.

Don't buy the current M5 then! :D

I think the difference is the M5 sounds good even without the enhancement. At least the ones going up the hill at goodwood did. The vRS...it was near silent
