  • Can't see that anyone has posted this yet, so though I'd pop it up. New video out today.  I noticed I was the second view.   Have to say, it looks good.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WbzoVrIZ

  • Can you not take this to a new thread. I'm subscribed on here for mkiii vrs updates. Not the age old argument of diesel vs petrol. Christ you'll be slagging off macs and pc's next :(

  • I will never understand those that defend their own car make by slagging other makes off. OK, if you've had a particularly bad experience with a certain car make, tell the story, etc. but don't sugge

It is a silly thing to miss from the spec, but honestly, in the UK cruise control is near useless.  I'd much rather not have cruise and have the Adaptive Cruise.  THAT is useful on the UK's congested roads and perhaps that is the way SUK wants to steer people with the vRS?

I have been reading this topic now for some weeks and I am now wondering how much realistically a dealer would give me for a trade in for a new vRS combi DSG petrol. My car is a race blue vRS petrol combi 11 plate with 8k on the clock, full leather, xenons, heated seats, privacy glass etc. Looking at the pictures I would love to have  a look at a candy white with the black pack and panoramic roof. I still have 5k on finance through Skoda, so it would have to be a cracking deal for me to change at the moment . Any Ideas on price would be most welcoming.

I disagree.

Unless I'm only driving in town I use cruise control all the time. My commute to work is only ten miles and it can be on for half that distance.

Its a monumental **** up not putting standard cruise control on the car as standard, the market that they will mainly be looking at as a 'fleet' viable vehicle the people that use those types of cars will in the main do a lot of motorway miles I am sure, and CC is a minimum in this day and age, and some companies dont allow there employees to spec extras on a car, so the lack of CC for many will be a deal breaker, hopefully Skoda UK get there act together one day within the 30 years or something and actually spec a car correctly!!!!

As a private buyer, the first thing I look for is CC, if it aint on it I either wont buy it or will have to have it fitted, I dont do lots of motorway work but when I do, I like to stick the CC on 75mph, and kick back, relax and enjoy the journey.

I agree it is utter madness not to have it...  Especially for company drivers that are not allowed to add extras.  Has anyone bothered to email SUK en masse to request this?  Or are people just hoping they will assimilate this sort of information via osmosis or something?  How are they supposed to know how daft they are if no one emails them to tell them?

That sounds sensible, but it's a risky strategy for a company to take - "wait for negative feedback in order to get a product right". The reality is that they will lose some sales and eventually some bean counter will calculate that had CC been included, they might have cornered a part of the market that they lost.

Put it this way, I know it should be standard, you know it should be standard, most of this forum knows it should be standard. Why doesn't Skoda? I'm not going to email them to state the fairly obvious, they've taken a risk and hoping that by withholding £20 worth of parts, they'll make a few quid. Same as including Xenon lamps when they could have excluded them. I don't want them, I'm effectively paying for something I don't want, I'd have rather had Amundsen instead, but I'm not going to email Skoda, I'd just choose another marque if it bothered me that much.

Market forces :)

Just taken out a petrol vRS Combi DSG for a spin. Compared with my CR vRS (170) it felt very eager, especially in sport mode, putting it into economy made it a little more relaxing in traffic. I noticed that in economy mode, the car often displayed 'coasting' on the maxidot, it will be interesting to see what impact this will have on overall economy on those days when you're trying to stretch a tank out. I liked that each mode was customisable in throttle response, steering etc.

Lane assist was a curious novelty that I turned off halfway through the test drive, I think I would enable that for longer motorway journeys though. The 'estate' doesn't seem that much bigger in the boot than the hatch imo. I tried voice control of the radio, that was flawless for me, "station BBC radio 1" etc, no problem, a great way of getting to stations you haven't programmed in as the DAB has oversight of all potential stations, so you can simply say "station BBC radio 5 live" if a sporting even was on, I personally don't store this station as I rarely listen to it. You get the idea.

I think the car really needs cruise, I expect 80% of all vRS buyers will specify this option and I'm willing to bet that Skoda will eventually include it as standard, it's such a glaring omission.

Here's a little Vine video https://vine.co/v/hA93i9blvBm/embed

Finally, and I don't think I've seen this mentioned on here, anyone notice that the 'jumbo box' (or whatever it's called these days) doesn't have an aircon feed into it anymore? I used to use that all the time to keep a bit of chocolate or a can of red bull on long journeys. I know I can use the glovebox, but still, you don't expect less when you're spending more.

I'm almost ready to do a deal, probably on a diesel version.

Nice little review there Dave.  That was the one I took out last week which sealed the deal for me and I didnt post it up last week as we were internet less due to BT :(

The one thing I noticed the most was how quiet it was inside the cockpit.  This will have a lot to do with the petrol engine with no derv but ive been in a petrol mkii and it still seemed a lot quieter.  The DSG is lovely on it and I was spoiled by the petrol but with my miles and the petrol GMV it made more sense for me to go diesel.  Also the new seats are really comfy!

I forgot to try the lane assist but it may have been turned off

Ive ordered a Race Blue DSG Estate tdi which should be here oct/nov.  I got a good deal on it and a good book price for my old white vrs which has been a stunning car. Monthly payments from a manual TDi vrs have gone up by £9 per month.

ive specced the following options

Normal Cruise

Black pack

Colour maxidot

Auto boot

MDI mitsumi

sunset glass.

standard anthracite gemini's

Ive not bothered with the spare as theyve said I can take out my existing spare and swap it for the gunge pack in the new one as its the same size wheel :)

The only thing Ive been wondering about since is should I have gone for the adaptive cruise which includes front assist?  Theres so little info on the skoda website on what it does that ive been checking the audi and golf versions but I think they may be more advanced.  hmm, what to do before it gets too late to change anything!  This is where Skoda have missed the boat by sending out loads of basic spec demonstrators :(

Nobody around here has any TDI demonstrators so Ive ordered a little in the dark really but as I love my current 170Bhp engine it should only be better or the same and not worse!  The golf GT tdi has had good review with the same engine albeit it being a lighter car.

I've had cruise on my last 3 cars and barely used it 2 or 3 times in each car. I guess some people love it and some people don't use it ;)

Yes, must admit, I'm a bit confused about the differences between park assist, parking sensors, ACC, front assist etc etc!

Does the new car feel a lot bigger than the old one, in terms of driving, parking etc? Before it came out people were like its too big now but no one mentions it in the test drive write ups.

Good question, and it's something I didn't even think about until now. Answer in my opinion is no, I couldn't feel the difference and I parked up 3 times on my test drive.

I disagree.

Me too.  It was on most of the way from Gaydon yesterday.

I use the cruise all the time too but drive around in Wales so its less congested.

Re it feeling bigger on the outside I never noticed it did. It definitely has more legroom in the back though.

I drove 900 miles from Samoens (French Alps) on Saturday, cruise control on for 99% of the journey, only time it was turned off was for getting onto the Eurotunnel ;) I think for people who don't have a need for it, it says more about where you live than how you drive? I don't suppose I'd use it much in very built up areas with lots going on.

Does it feel bigger, no not really I had no trouble with the side roads on my test drive.

Yes its quiet but still has tyre noise which seemed about the same as mine.

Seats are lovely and its nice to drive..........but....same spec as my current Octavia it's a touch under £29k! I personally don't think it's worth that much.

Cost to change would be just under £19k.

I won't be placing an order.

Recently drove 3000 miles to south of France and back and used CC about 1% of the time!

Sarge.

I checked on the way home, and it was on for 7 miles out of 9.7.

France is about the only place I do use the cruise a lot. Set to 134 clicks and the only thing you touch is the indicator around slower cars and trucks. Stop for Peage and with a DSG you just click resume when you exit and up the gears you go back to 134 clicks. Perfect.

I didn't spec cruise on my Fabia since lots of my driving is in town or on twisty A and B roads so I'm always using paddles. Several times a year I go to Middlesbrough, Castle Combe, Goodwood, Southampton and other places where there's lots of motorway miles and not once have I ever wanted it. I like to drive a car

I find it handy for giving your foot a rest for 5 or 10 minutes on a long run.

If I had adaptive I'd use it a lot more, because it's just easier going to work when I don't want to be chasing the thrill of driving.

Its perfect for motorway miles and sticking to 30mph zones :D
