Passenger front windscreen washer jet stopped working/blocked

Featured Replies

Hi guys needing advice my jet is either blocked or not working, noticed it when i left work and had to use screen-wash to clear the screen.

Pulled the stalk and the headlight washer worked and so does the driver side jet, and i checked rear it works fine, my screen-wash is diluted to -21 so its not that, it was only -6 at 6am when i finished.

Any guides on how to remove the nozzle?? i couldn't see this morning it was too dark and i was cold, tired and hungry lol.

Cheers

Graham.

Had exactly this problem last Tuesday, turns out the pipe had split off the nozel.

Had to take wipers off and plastic panel with jets attached.

A new bit of pipe put on and job done.

All I can think is somehow only one side had froze or blocked causing the pressure to split the pipe.

Strange how it was also the passenger side one though

Grrrr i hope not! I wont be chuffed lol, ive had winter screenwash in all year in varying dilution leels only the last month and a half have i increased it to give good protection, surely it wont have froze! Grrr again. :(

I'll get a look when its light and ive had a sleep haha.

Same here mate, I also run a decent mix of good screen wash.

It must have been about 75/25 last week, and is supposed to be good for -15

I think the bottle is telling me lies lol

Fingers crossed it may just be blocked and you could try putting a bit air through it or something first

If you've not been using VAG screenwash, or another similar one with water softeners in it, then chances are the fan jets are blocked up with scuzz.

Not a major issue, as they're only around £10 each or £20 each if you've got the mind to fit heated ones.

Probably cheaper than using genuine screenwash and using filtered water or similar gets around the issue too.

I keep the water from our condensing tumble dryer - just for our car washer bottles.

Its the best water in the world..... Its Scottish water lol, oddly went to try again and it works fine!!, although not as full om as the drivers side so might just order up a new one, £6 for one.

The Dryer water is perfect as long as you've not got fluff in it.

I guess you could always try using a cheap blend as screenwash :o

If you've an old toothbrush, you can give the top of the fanjet a clean with that and a quick scrub.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I've been using neat Isopropyl Alcohol - would probably work down to -50C and is rather good at melting any ice on the windscreen - also smells nice (or am I turning into an Alcoholic? ;))

It has a pretty good fluff filter on the dryer - the backup is VAG very kindly put a filter on the filler neck of my Octavia.

But you are quite correct the washer system wouldn't like a bit of fluff (unlike me  )

Yes but you would strip off any wax or sealant on the paintwork and dry out the rubber on the wipers

i would think that the jet had frozen that's all.

That's what happened with mine, then it slowly got worse over a few days til nothing was coming out.

But I do about 100-150 miles a day, and this time of year use them every few mins. So it might be months, or never before anything else happens to your one

Use a pin and unblock it.

probably was frozen even if you think you had enough anti freeze in it.

Over the last two winters I have used the LIdl stuff, never a problem. No diluting, No Messing.

Since the floods we have plenty of water from the de-humidifier. I would use it in the iron - if I ever did any!

Memories of the instant screen ice-over!! not fun, especially when the anemic heaters of the day would struggle to keep the inside demisted, let alone tackle the outside.

Talking of irons, we get de-ionised water from Tesco for the iron and it is also for batteries. Could be good in screenwash.

Also have condensing tumble dryer and its water seems fluff free - though it is the noisiest contraption I've ever come across.

Yes the pin trick worked for me thanks for that.

Now for the broken bonnet release catch!

Thanks BriSkodians.
