Welcome to the real world of insurance :)

Everyone's insurance will be on the rise at the moment, I don't recall speaking to anyone for a long time whose premium has gone down recently. Worth going direct to the companies who come out cheapest, the comparison sites obviously need to make money too and that's usually achieved by adding a hidden fee onto the premium quotes. My personal preference is to speak to someone so you can barter with them, always seems to get the best results for me, so ring a few and see what they come up with.

I can never expect to pay a premium as low as £326, probably ever, so at least be somewhat grateful :)

indeed.... I'm a drivivng instructor, with numerous other driving qualifications, and a clean liscence.. full no claims ect ect , and I know I have the vRS, but I cant get it below £360....

with the vectra comparison, the new car will cost more to replace/repair in the case of an accident......

I insure with skoda insurance which is under written by Allianz. Fully comp with the wife, protected no claims an all the other bits on my VRS £275 just had my renewal through yesterday. Thats an increase of £30 on last year. However i do live in the safest county in the UK allegedly and garage the car every night.

£380 with all the fancy bits, protected no claims etc. Bit less than my old mk1 vrs anyway :)

Try Swinton, they are the cheapest for me by far, even got cash back.

I managed to get insured on my diesel monte for £305 fully comp, no accidents/convictions 6yrs NCB protected, that's with a £100 compulsory excess, been driving 16 years now

That was with more than, who were never really competitive with any of my older cars

Just had quotes (both diesel) as thinking of changing my Monte for a new Monte, a 75 Monte will be around £410 at renewal in January, a 105 Monte will be around £470 in January. This is a driving instruction policy, full no claims, no convictions, held full licence for 23 years. I don't think I've EVER had a renewal go down in price from the previous year!!

My insurance for my vRS was £750! Which I was really pleased with considering it was exactly the same for my Focus, which was boring and slow.

Insurance costs were actually a deciding factor when choosing the vRS. The Ibiza Cupra and Polo GTi were both over £1,000. So, cheaper to buy, cheaper to insure... Win Win.

My VRS is £240 a year a big drop over my diesel Octy VRS but we have 3 cars in the household

Quoted £25 a month to insure my Monte through Sainsburys. There were slightly cheaper offers but Sainsburys had a reasonable excess. Need to wait til I get my registration details and delivery date through before I can sign up. I'll give my current insurers (Admiral) a chance to match it but I'm not overly convinced they will.

Was looking at a Corsa before deciding on the Monte and I was quoted £3 a month less to move from my 2.0 v6 X-type to a 1.4 Corsa so I don't see them being particularly cheap to insure my Fabia.

Admiral were surprisingly accommodating when I threw the "I can get the same cover for £x cheaper elsewhere" so I stayed with them. Whilst premiums have risen across the board I believe companies are eager to keep existing business so are prepared to negotiate (within reason).

This year was the first year elephant wouldn't play ball. I got a £300 rebate from them last year when I switched from the alfa but this year they wanted £522. After giving them the renewal they dropped to £370 so I went with onequotedirect.co.uk at £213

Regardless of what you pay it all comes down to how the insurance company treats you if you are unfortunate enough to have a ding or someone hits you. I changed last year after a no fault claim involving a police car. I was insured with Admiral and after all the grief if they offered me free insurance tomorrow i would decline. I have used many insurance company's but Admiral have to be the biggest bunch of cowboys on this earth.

My mum was just doing her nut at me because of the way i spoke to the guy that phoned her when i was in her house.

Just renewed her insurance with Admiral, because Age Concern bumped the price this year, just like M&S did the year before.

So went online for her

& Diamond was £5 cheaper than Admiral, & i went with Admiral, not knowing Diamond was Admiral.

All sorted, till Diamond phoned the next day & then i found out i paid £5 extra for no reason.

Anyway,

today 'Age Concern' calls to ask why she is leaving, & i took the phone.

He says, "lets see what we can do to get the price down".

I said, "No disrespect,

but tell your robbing Barstewards of Bosses to stop conning people and give the best/lowest renewal price @ time of renewal"

The whole set up is a con, & those that will pay the asking price are just assisting them in their ways.

Ask for lower.

£5 extra with Admiral, i could have had a Deep Fried Pizza in Batter for that.

No tea from my mum for being rude to that nice fella.

You should try living in Northern Ireland! When I first moved over three years ago my insurance trebled, even though I moved into a safe residential area rather than a main road.

I have been quotes in the region of £600 for a GL2 Estate and I have 9 years NCB and no convictions!!!!

Right rip off over here, it really surprises me how all the we scummers can afford the cars that they have.

I got a quote on a new Citigo 75 auto

& it was £103.52 with the matched NCB used on my vRS which is £149 fully comp.

RAC & LV were about the £150 mark for the Citigo.

(LV £147)

Old is good.

I'm having issues with swiftcover for switching when my new car arrives, they want an extra £300 which seems totally unjustified to me. I was expecting the annual premium to increase going from a diesel Passat to a hot(ish) hatch, but that seemed excessive. When I said that to the lady on the phone she basically just said "yeah I know" and offered no further explanation. They are effectively thieves who prey on people's good nature of not questioning what they're told.

switching new cars they have you by the balls... Ash wrote off her fabia, and was paying over £1k insurance... got a 60 bhp citygo , and they charged her more to change!!!!!

renewal time has just come around ;) £380 and shes covered :) (fully comp , bells and whistles) not bad with a fault accident and no, no claims......

Don't get me started...

Oh you did...

Went with the cheapest firm (iGo4) from several comparison sites (and direct called some too) last year. Nothing but hassle, as they were an online insurance firm, to which I had no access for 9 months, as they incorrectly entered my email address on day 1 and hence my login wouldn't work. Over that 9 months, I moved house and couldn't access the site to change address. They did in on the helpline, but also stated the email address change was "in hand" with the IT department...

In the end, I phoned up to cancel the policy, as it still wasn't fixed. That would cost me £75, with 1 monthly payment left to make of £35...I went ballistic. The cancellation lady was very helpful, talked calmly throughout and detailed the complaints procedure. She apologised and said there was nothing they could do, as it was in the small print.

I complained and received a cheque for £25 in respect of my phone calls to the helpline to complete the tasks that I should have been able to log on and complete from the outset. This, in my opinion was just an appeasement, enforced by the ombudsmen, to get me off their backs.

When the renewal came through, it had DOUBLED!!! From c£360 to £609!!!

I phoned to query it, as I had an email quoting me £520, a cancellation letter stating £360 (same fee) and the renewal quote letter of £609. The guy was matter of fact - the renewal quote is right, there is no reason why it has doubled, it would take an age to get an answer from the underwriter. Didn't try to keep my business by offering me lower. I wouldnt have switched.

The ensuing hassle of finding someone to insure the Monte was farcical - all the comparison sites give you a good quote on the limited info you put in, but most jumped up at least £100 when you contacted the insurer direct (or through the comparison email link). Eventually, I went with Lloyds TSB, as I bank with them and the quote was reasonable (£360, plus a small monthly payment fee). I trust Lloyds and hadn't heard of some of the cheaper firms offering insurance.

Skoda wanted £450, all the big firms wanted more. RUBBISH.

I will say this - I moved from an SP post code to an SN - insurance went up (rougher area). I then moved to an SO postcode (but on the border of SP - 10 miles from the first address) and it increased again, due to the area.

Apparently, Salisbury Plain is "safe-ish", Swindon is "less safe" and Southampton (although I'm Hants/Wilts border near Andover) is "uber rough". Across that county border, back to an SP postcode and my mates insurance dropped by £60 and he got a refund!

You should all consider yourselves lucky. I've had to pay £560 for my 60hp 1.2 6V this year! £620 last year and £650 the year before it!!!

When I passed my test at 17 living in Northern Ireland (before moving to England). I bought a 1.1 Pug 106 which cost 1,400. The insurance was 1,600 for a year!!

If I didn't have help from family at that age I would have never been able to afford to drive.

Insurance is ridiculous at the moment, son just passed test as an arosa 1.0 litre 54 plate, insurance wanted nearly £4k so he fitted a black box £1-9k ,he's done pass plus at a cost of £160 and that did no difference,

@ sharkrider your a driving instructor what's the point of pass plus? Just a rip of IMO as it makes no difference what's your opinion?, do you offer this ? Yes ? Then why !

I did PassPlus, back in the day - I saw it as a positive thing, because it teaches you how to drive on a Motorway, Country Lanes, at night etc - things you need in the real world.

I did get an insurance discount (safer driver), but not every company offer it.

Also, I don't know if the regualr test has altered at all in the last 17 years to incorporate more of those things as standard?
