Toyo T1-R

Featured Replies

Any good?

Need a new pair of tyres for the fronts pretty soon. Don't reckon much to the Continental SportContact 2's.

Had a set of T1-S on the Golf, Corrado & Ibiza & seemed to be pretty good.

The T1-S is gradually phasing out & being replaced with the T1-R.

I know Josh recently had T1-R's fitted to his Furby vRS and he rates them very highly.

As do I, had them on for about 4k now, they grip very well indeed. Still get out of shape if push on a wet/greasy roundabout but no where near as bad as the old tyres!

Any idea of prices for 205/45 R16 W rated?

I had the T1-S on the Octavia. Wouldn't have them again.

Why?

Longevity?

I love my T1-R's btw... So grippy that I can no longer easilly wheelspin in 2nd!

Ditto to Josh's comment.

I've replaced my front Michelins with T1-R's and the difference is night and day! Can't wait for the rears to wear out so I can get the Toyo's all round. :)

You can actually feel how much softer they are, so they aren't gonna last as long as the Michelins but they will last more than long enough, and on a car like this, I'd rather have the grip TBH :)

I use Kumho Ecsta KH11 tyres in 205/50/17 guise and they are very good, especially when they only cost

Hmm, I've put some T1-Rs on my furby and to be honest, I like them quite a lot, except for braking. They do seem to squeal a bit. Cornering is fine, and as Colin said, it has improved the ride of mine to no end, but then again, I now have 215/40/17 compared to the 205/40/17 which were stretched over the audi competition alloys I have.

Maybe I just need to get them a bit warmer. When's the next track day so I can abuse?

Hmmmmmmm....that's odd! A grippy tyre should behave well under braking?

Anyway, I don't need tyres quite as soon as anticipated. The fronts had about 4mm of tread left on them, but when I had it serviced @ the dealer, the lads swapped the fronts for the backs. So I now have 7mm on the fronts & 4mm on the back.

I did question this with the technician. He said that if the tread was any less, then he wouldn't have swapped them. They recommend to replace tyres when the tread is around 2mm (legal limit is 1.6mm).

Might actually go for Pirelli P Zero Nero's!

I'd replace them at between 3 and 4 mm. German tread law is 3.6 and the general consencus seems to be that the conti's "go off" around that depth. I now run Bridgestone Potenza SO2 Pole Positions on the front and 4mm conti's on the back, and it handles like a go kart.

I've always found tyres to go off at anything around the 3mm tread mark - a loss of grip that's really not appreciated!!

I can't abide by garages swapping the worn tyres to the back during a service though, especially as all the recommendations are to have the better tyres at the back!!

i use t1-r 's and have been impressed with them - will use them again next time.... with my 45,000 miles a year that wont be long.

they grip well in most conditions and when the do give up they are progressive, the only conditions they dont handle well is very cold wet greasy mornings (imho)

That's almost all year round up North! :D

Just for info my front T1-R's have now done 14,000 miles and still have loads of tread whereas the Contis SP 2's had to be replaced at 13000. Am I not driving hard enough ? ;)
