How Fast are Briskoda #3 - 1st June

Featured Replies

Session is 10am, so we'll be finished by 1pm.

Personally I can't think of many things I'd like to do more (for myself on my birthday) than getting together with a bunch of fellow car nuts and cahoooning about and having a laugh. :)

  • Right, after my annoyance at the organisers' letting us out at Combe, and wishing to at least have a truly 100% brisky session along with a smidge of tracktime desire, I'm up for this. Won't be a work

  • We've had the practice times, we've had the hot lap times, now we have possibly the most important table of all (for obvious reasons), the improvement between practice and hot lap times 01. +5.317 -

Any help advice as to where is the best to get rims and used (even very used) racing tyres to fit from?

Anything 5x100 will fit on your car. so you should be able to pick summin up.

These?

or these?

maybe these?

Personally I have a set of Leon 20VT wheels which i bought for £50 and then put part worn road tyres on.

Although my previous track days have been done at the end of the road life of a set of road tyres

Meaning only just legal turns into incredibly bald shoulders by the end of the day and I then just swapped to new rims with new tyres at the end of the day.

All that said this event gives you an absolute maximum running of about an hour and 5 minutes and that assumed you do the enitre practice session non-stop!

In reality you'd do about half an hour hard driving with maybe 10 minutes at a reduced pace right at the beginning.

Bedford is also super smooth tarmac.

The event really shouldn't be a tyre sheredder.

At event #1 I did it on my road tyres and probably wore them out more on the 3 hour commute there and back than I did on track!

I'd prefer to keep it Skoda if possible but shoudl we not get enough Czech cars i'd be happy to open it up to members who have moved on to other (lesser ;)) marques

Here we go again... Sigh... Shouldn't really be called 'How fast is Briskoda?' then should

it? It should be called 'How fast are Briskoda members who drive Skodas?', hardly

the same thing...

Nicotine withdrawal is making me grouchy... :(

Given the lack of Skoda interest Garry I'm beginning to the opening it up to non-Skoda driving members too.

Especially given the lack of people actually putting their hand in their pockets and confirming their attendence (yes I am more than aware of the irony of me being one of those who have not having booked yet!)

You might as well Pasty.

More the merrier!

I will book, don't worry. :)

I have booked and am looking forward to it

I see Jabo is back, are you joining us mate?

I think the reason I haven't booked is when you're driving around in a 58bhp 106, the thought of motorsport is a world away, so once I get back the mongrel on Thursday after 6 weeks, it will be back to normality again. :)

Looks like there should be plenty of time after to get back to Telford and prep our cars for the Skoda show the next day

I will follow you guys home, when you turn off for Telford I will carry on north.

I'd love but the date is kinda grating a bit.... I just need to decide what I really want (did I just sound like a proverbial woman?)

You don't pay until about two weeks before (mid-May).

But you need to contact them and give them your card details so they know you are coming.

They don't take the money until a week or two before the event.

Otherwise, with this rate of people actually phoning them they'll probably give up on the idea...

Yes, you do.

6 or so posts yet and you still can't decide.

4 booked in, I am also thinking this might not be a goer, come on people get booked in.

Just to clarify the event will still happen even if there are less than 18 of us.

If we can't take all the spaces as a group MSV will revoke our exclusivity and sell the remaining empty slots off to Joe Public. Meaning those Briskodians attending could end up sharing the track with nutters and/or much quicker machinery.

Obviously the safer and more fun way to do it is with our own nutters and with much similar levels of speed.

MSV actually chased me last week to see if we were still attending as the uptake had been so low so far.

They have said that they'll need to put it in general sale in about a months time if we don't fill it by then.

I will book tomorrow during my lunch break. Should be a good weekend!

Who is organising the Skoda show up Telford then? :D

what is happening at Telford? I might go to have a look see, but not enter anything.

All booked up.

OK, put me in, Richard in his Citigo tearing up the tarmac should be a sufficient reason to come on its own :D.

I just nedd to source a walnut protector. I will be calling Bedford shortly to pay. Probably next week, some chunky expenses will be paid back by the end of the month, which should pay for the fuel, fee and a jar of some description.
