  • Right, after my annoyance at the organisers' letting us out at Combe, and wishing to at least have a truly 100% brisky session along with a smidge of tracktime desire, I'm up for this. Won't be a work

  • We've had the practice times, we've had the hot lap times, now we have possibly the most important table of all (for obvious reasons), the improvement between practice and hot lap times 01. +5.317 -

They have obviously given up waiting.

I guess the discount is no longer available as we didn't fill it with Skoda's

I guess the discount is no longer available as we didn't fill it with Skoda's

I've been to Bedford twice before, and I can't understand why all of those 'going' haven't rung to confirm their attendance - as has been said earlier, you only provide your card details at this stage, no payment is taken until much nearer

It just makes you wonder if many of those who have added their names to the list are, in fact, full of Billy BS, with no intention of going at all

I'd love to put my name down myself, but until I've seen a haematologist on 3rd April I don't know how life is going to pan out

The discount is if 10 cars go from our group at the time the payment is taken.

So still time...

They did not give up waiting as they still took my booking and my card details just now under Briskoda Club Group - I am the sixth person to put he money where my mouth is. C'mon guys, cought up!

BTW, please update the list with my name on it marked as booked up.

Just been on MSV and it looks like the how fast day is now open to the public....

Each How Fast event only lasts 3 hours so they fit multiple sessions into a single day.

June 1st is listed on the webstie as available but you can only book for the first session of the morning (8am till 11am)

I spoke to MSV last week and they said they would keep the event exclusive to us until late April after which they would have no option but to release it to the general public and sell the remaining slots.

All that said i have just booked myself in!

7 down 3 more to go for the discount.

I will link to this thread in Fabia II sub-forum.

Anything 5x100 will fit on your car. so you should be able to pick summin up.

These?

or these?

maybe these?

Personally I have a set of Leon 20VT wheels which i bought for £50 and then put part worn road tyres on.

Although my previous track days have been done at the end of the road life of a set of road tyres

Meaning only just legal turns into incredibly bald shoulders by the end of the day and I then just swapped to new rims with new tyres at the end of the day.

All that said this event gives you an absolute maximum running of about an hour and 5 minutes and that assumed you do the enitre practice session non-stop!

In reality you'd do about half an hour hard driving with maybe 10 minutes at a reduced pace right at the beginning.

Bedford is also super smooth tarmac.

The event really shouldn't be a tyre sheredder.

At event #1 I did it on my road tyres and probably wore them out more on the 3 hour commute there and back than I did on track!

Rude of me, apologies for seemingly ignoring your post. Thank you very much for the links!

I had a look but the ones I liked are at the other end of the country... adding fuel costs I'd be better off buying brand new ones lol :)

I am on fleebay all the time hunting for the right ones.

Anyone has any idea for a good source of used performance tyres, like racing rubber (slicks are fine but intermediate ones would be better in case of wet weather) no longer suitable for performance racing but still good for a track day?

Also, anybody tried getting used tyres off a local tyre shop?

Bear in mind you're only using them for track days so you don't really have to "like" them and they'll be spinning too fast to see the design anyways! ;)

eBay is often a good place to buy part worn tyres but as with your wheels you may find location a problem.

Ex racing slicks I think you'd struggle to find as any race team worth its salt would have got all the performance out of them meaning a decent set of road tyres would probably be a better option.

Given my lack of talent and the fact i doubt a different set of tyres would allow me to shave seconds off my lap time i've just gone for a pair of part worn branded tyres at £30 a corner (although they are mis-matched) and a couple of non-road legal Conti Sport Contacts for the other pair.

That said I may not even bother to bring them to this as I seriously don't think that these events provide enough opportunity to kill a set of road tyres.

I'll second that, especially if you go round at my pace

Having said that, my Michelin PS3s did get hot to melting last time we went (ie when there was just the three Musketeers - Richard, Mike, and myself)

2500rpm....you must be kidding!

1500.......it's a diesel :)

My brother in law races classis Alfa Romeoand he gets his tyres as used from tyre companies and pro racing teams. I've seen them, touched them and smelled then in his garage. They literary done few laps but blistered and are of no use to a racing team. All you need to do is scrub them to get below the damage caused by blistering and you are done - top rpo racing rubber with half thread left for peanuts.

sadly my bro in law lives 100 miles away and transport is waay too expensive to make it work :(

Can I kill a set of good road tyres on the track day - I think I could within 10 laps if I wanted to. All you need to do is slide through all corners and there will be nothing left from your tyres. Lots of fun (see that oaf clarkson destroying set after set within few laps and a moronic grin he wears while doing so - I'd look and behave the same if they paid me to do so lol) but can be dangerous if you cannot control it. It also not the fastes way around any track :D.

I will keep looking, luckily I am close to London and there is quite a lot of stuff around. Just to go over that hurdle of needing to like them ;)

If you slid it round every corner there's also a good chance that your hour-long session will last 5 minutes before being barred for putting other track users at risk

Yes, forgot about black flags LOL

I'm sure your bro in law would let you have them for nothing, and Paisley freight deliver 4 wheels and tyres for £29.00, hardly expensive
