I am having problems with both the electric wing mirror adjuster and the central locking system on my 56 vRS Octavia Estate.

The problems almost certainly stem from a botched jump start of a knackered battery which blew the radio and alternator fuses.

The wing mirror adjuster issue is fairly easy to describe: they simply do not work.

The central locking is a little more complicated. The key fob will set and disarm the alarm and lock and unlock the rear doors but won't remotely operate the front door locks. The front doors lock/unlock with the key.

Anyone out there with any suggestions? Are these two problems likely to be fuse issues too? If so where would be the best place to buy replacements and where do they go?

Thanks for your time,

Nick

The best thing you can do is get the car scanned with VCDS or the dealer VAS scanning tool to determine the source of the fault(s). Otherwise you'll be clutching at straws. I would physically check EVERY fuse in both fuse boxes (dash drivers side panel and engine bay) as well as all relays behind the light switch in the dash. This can be done with no diagnostic equipment except a test meter.

Could be problems with the driver and front passenger control units but that is a pure guess and a scan is still recommended.

you say a botched jump start due to a knackered battery, have you replaced the battery. I was getting all sorts of electrical gremlins when my battery was knackered as soon as i changed it everything settled down and was ok. Maybe this would be a good starting place!

also im pretty certain the procedure for recoding the keys is in the manual

i have justt come innn from the pubso alll of the above could be bullpoo!

Thanks for the replies. I have changed the battery.

Thanks for the advice r.e. fuse locations. Any idea where I might find a map for which fuse corresponds to which component?

look in the back of your manual there is a list of all the fuses, locations and what they do

So there is! Thanks very much (and sorry for the stupid question that I really should have figured out for myself!).

no worries mate, sometimes you get caught up with a problem and look for the hard fix rather than the easy fix!
