Monte rear lights on with D.R.Ls..

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if it is possible to have the rear lights on with the d.r.ls on a Monte , and if so could it be done at the dealers. Thanks.

Should be on as standard once you flick the drl switch :)

Not on mine Adam, I have d.r.ls. on but no rear lights on ,

Same on mine. DRLs on but nothing else on, when the side lights are turned on the DRL turn off.

Strange..... I just checked my car and all the lights come on, drl, side light, rear lights and number plate lights with engine running

My vrs was the same, the dealer can set it up for u. I took mine in yesterday and took them 10 minutes

It's basically setting your car up to think its in Sweden Norway or Scandinavia, as its a legal requirement over there.

I to have d.r.ls. on but no rear lights on . Rang the salesman and he said thats how it is...

So back on the phone to the service dept' to check. No there are no rear lights.

A bit odd, but I have asked them to recheck.

I will let you know the outcome.

Unless anyone else has any ideas.

Just keep your foot on the brake, then all rear light will be on :D

If your car can not have DRL's & rear sidelights activated,

why not just drive with Sidelights on front and rear & number plate light.

If poor light, visibility, bad weather etc, Sidelights and dipped beam.

Job done & less annoying to some than DRL's.

SK4gw.

The idea of DRL is to give a brighter than side light option only during day time.

This for many years has been a safety item for Volvos. The Volvo system had all lights on with the ignition.

The only way to turn them off was to pull the DRL fuse.

It proved to reduce accidents during day times, as others can see you better.

Thats why we Bikers also run with headlamps on dip even in daytime hours.

I understand all that, (being a biker)

I very much liked the Volvo system and they were not in the decades since the 70's the brightness to the front of modern DRL's

(they were about the brightness of Sidelights)

But this is the system now to let other road and pavement users know that you are coming towards them,

so why do you want the rear lights on in broad daylight or clear visibility?

How many times have you seen people driving around with NO lights on, even in bad light/dank/misty/even darknes.

I see many fogetting to turn their lights on at all.

So for me, I would like the capability to have them(DRL) on like the Volvos I used to own. (actualy miss the DRL from the Volvos)

After all....Why not?

Don't get George started on vehicle lighting.

It is possible to have your rear tail lights and number plate lights on together with your DRL's.

It may be that your dealer doesn't know how to do it but their software is capable of activating this setting. You'll be better off finding a friendly member with VCDS, a cable and a laptop to make the change for you.

Strange..... I just checked my car and all the lights come on, drl, side light, rear lights and number plate lights with engine running

Someone has been messing with your car. It is possible to activate the set-up you have but running front sidelights together with DRL's will make it even more likely for people to think you have your front fog lights on.

only options the dealers did prior to collection was activate locking beep and locking doors when moving. That's how it came as standard for me.... hmmmm

Is that Sidelights and DRL's on at the front, or is it a reflection in the headllights?

& Are the clocks lit up with just the ignition on?

george

with engine running -

switch set to 0 - drl on, front sidelights on, rear lights on, number plate lights on

switch set to side light, as above but drl off

switch set to dipped beam, dipped beam, front sidelights on, rear lights on, number plates lights on

just text a friend who picked up his monte carlo last weekend to see what his does, but the above is what mine has done since collection in December.

The front sidelights should not work at the same time if the DRL's are on at the daytime DRL brightness.

george

Trip to dealers then.... brilliant

What is wrong with them operating like that, think its more benifical in my eyes.

Actually they looked OK on a Monte Carlo's type of lights, IMHO.

Nothing wrong with them, other than Construction & Use for DRL's.

(basically, Full brightness DRL's should not be in operation with Sidelights or Sidelights and Headlights.)

At least Monte Carlo DRL's are not so offrensive to some other Road Users are vRS often appear to be.

On a vRS it would really look Like Fog/Spot lights if the low down DRL's were on with sidelights in the Headlight Unit.

Mercedes drivers seem to have from around 4 to 8 differing kinds of front lights showing at anyone time.

Sidelights and dimmed DRL's Marker lights etc, to the full Dimmed DRL's Markers Headlights and Fogs all on.

Yeah George your right those drls shouldn't be on with main lights, however the lights are on when its at 0 ? Light shouldn't be on at all ? So during the day all lights are on or go off when ignition is turned and engine running ? If so the switch is faulty

His DRL's are not on with the main lights,

he switches on the Lights (sidelights or sidelights and headlights.)

and the DRL's go out.

*I think they do as was described and shown on the vid.*

His DRL's should go on at '0',, just not the Front Sidelights with them. (because the sidelights are on,

it looks like that is why the clocks are lit. not just the needles.)

The Rears are possible for some Scandinavian Countries to be activated/enabled to work with the DRL's.

I would be inclined to stick with that as is,

as i usually have my lights on anyway in most cars,

its only the standard vRS DRL's and Sidelights that i dislike.

And no Fog Lights as Standard on the vRS, seem ridiculous to me.
