A-pillar gauge pod

Featured Replies

I've been trawling the net looking for an A-pillar boost gauge pod that will fit the octy. The one that I got with the 3 gauges I bought (autogauge) will not fit correctly due to it being too wide and the wrong curvature for tha a-pillar, this was a 'universal' fit and despite alot of trimming it was still too wide. I know nomad will make a custom fit pod if enough people are interested but the last thread suggesting this got a limited response. Can anyone recommend anywhere that will have a pod that WILL fit the Octavia a-pillar or a pod that has been designed for a different car with the same diminsions as the octy?

I don't want to get a din-panel/pod due to (hopefully) fitting oem sat nav at a later date.

Any help appreciated coz I'm at a loss now :(

maybe try a seat leon/vw golf one?

Contacted Nomad-racing to see if a leon pod will fit but I havn't had a response yet. The golf pods look to have too much curvature to be suitable for the octavia. I'm more hopefull of the leon ones but they're only 2 pods...i need 3. I don't live far from nottingham so I would be happy to take my car down so they could do a mould for an octavia...but as said before I don't think they would be interested in a 'one-off', so more people would need to be interested :o

If I can't find one I'll just have to fit a din panel pod and do without an oem satnav kit but this is as a last resort. Anyone fitted a universal a-pillar pod with any success?

i was in contact with martin from nomad, but as there was very little response it didn't progress, many mnay photo's have been sent ,but nothing looks similar in the VAG stable.i would deffinantley be interested in one,but as i said little response stopped me from sending martin my pillar.

Well now we have 2 people wanting a pod :D

Could you not fit the guages in the spare DIN slot? Awesome-gti and others do a mounting kit for that :)

Pillar mounting can restrict visability - especially 3 of them :(

Yeah they would fit nicely in the din slot but :

1. Viewing how much boost your getting while on full boost with your eyes away from the road (i.e looking at din) aint ideal imo.

2. I really want to save the din slot for when I get the sat nav installed.

With the way things are progressing tho I may have to fit them in the din slot regardless :(

i opted for a dash pod in the end, tucked right into the corner of the windscreen.a pod would be nice. hey ho ;)

I have a triple a pillar pod in my octavia vrs. Bought it from Icon Styling . com. It was a carbon look universal fit. It was the right width but not right curviture. Had to amend it with a black and decker but was dead easy. Cost me 23.95 new. I am nothing to do with the site so am not suggesting they are the greatest, they just had what i was looking for at the time.

N1 marki..looks very good.

Without wanting to criticise tho...did you sort out the fitment any better as there seems to be a gap near the top (curvature).

I had the same problem when dremmeling my old pod but it seems you have had more success.

Would the top bit 'screw' in so to bend the plastic to provide a better fit? And did you have to trim the 'width' down any or was it just the ends to provide better curvature?

Thx for the help!

it does like there is a gap there i hadn't noticed it. In the flesh it fits flush against the standard pillar. the part that looks like a gap is finishing edge. I have screwed it to the original pillar behind the 1st and 3rd gauge. I counter sunk them and covered the screws with the 2 bits i drilled out. Looks ok. I did have to drill through the standard pillar to run through all the pipes and cables.

Thanks for that Marki, looks like thats the pod I will be ordering

One last question.

Did you have to trim the WIDTH of the pod?

I ask this because the Pod I originally got was too wide (even after trimming). I trimmed it back so far that there was no 'plastic'' other than the actual width of the pod holder and it was still too wide

Cheers

Surely that's ok until your oil pressure light comes on and you can't see it!!

oil pressure light? is there one on the octy?

Yep, there is :D

does the light just come on when you've run out of oil then?

Nope when it gets low (ie after you rip your sump off ) to let you know :D

This is the way to go ;)

Should there be a bubble in the water like that??

oil pressure light is right at the top of the box, should it should be a problem!

There's no water, its somesort of oil, and yes there should be "bubble". This meter is for industrial use.

That's what I had in my Golf, didn't interfere with the view of any of the instrument cluster display. I kept it to fit to the Octavia but the steering column cover is much wider on the Octavia so it won't fit at all.

fits fine in my octy, although the sticky pads were wack so I screwed it down, um I mean Ross did
