FIRST SERVICE MILEAGE?

Featured Replies

My Yeti 1.2 Elegance is just on 15 months old with 5200 miles.

In the Sevice book its marked as variable sevice.

Last year I enquired with two Skoda garages when the first service would be due and was assured it was at 2 years.

Now the service reminder has popped up on the display....leaving me a bit nervous as to what I should do??

Any thoughts please......

I would say 2 years Max but could be less depending on driving history. Your mileage is quite low for 15 months and would I think make the variable system invoke a service request sooner than 2 years. Low mileage cars require more servicing than high mileage ones usually. My car (diesel with 15000 miles in 21 months) indicates when I interrogate the maxi dot that it will require a service at about 2 years. I changed oil and filter after 1 year at local garage in any case. I would believe your service reminder and have it serviced.

I think I would go onto fixed servicing at that sort of mileage IMHO and also that of the handbook---I'm still old fashioned anyway-a function of age!--and would like to change the oil every 10k , even though I have longlife oil etc

My SM standing at 10K at the moment at 9 months old on variable servicing

At that low mileage per annum I am surprised you are on variable servicing. I think you would be better on annual servicing.

+1

My annual mileage is 8k, I opted for fixed - happy with that!

I have the same query,my TSI is 14 months old and on QG1(variable servicing).I am expecting the service light in the next couple of weeks and have been told by the dealer I bought the car off(Mitchells) the car needs servicing every 2 years or 18000 miles and if the service light appears take the car into them and they will reset the light!.So it looks as if our cars are behaving exactly the same. For the people who are saying we should be on fixed sevicing I tried to book the car in for a service at 12 months but was told it was a waste of time/money and keep to the varaible service routine.

Wasting whose time and money?

You are the customer and if you want it serviced every 12 months / 10000 miles that is your choice.

Diesels do not like low mileage, they like to get up to temperature and run. This helps to burn off the nasties that would otherwise sit in the oil.

BTW my mileage is aprox' 4800 and the service indicator is showing 6500 miles or 33 days to service.

You perhaps need to qualify that - with the DPF, diesels don't respond well to short runs at low engine revs so under those circumstances you're definitely better off with petrol.

My 8k annual miles are driven over long runs at a brisk pace - yet to have a DPF regen in 16k miles! We have a Fabia for running errands!

Yes two years is the max servicing spacing for variable or as indicated by the car on mileage if before. With low annual miles however time and distance servicing is recommended by the manufacturer, which is 12 months or 9500 miles aprox which ever comes first.

Low mileage cars, particularly those that do short runs can be suseptable to internal condensation which can effect oil quality.

Even though I do 13k plus a year, I still have the Yeti serviced on time and distance to maintain oil quality and hopefully engine life.

Well that is one dealer I would steer well clear of !!

I did ring up another Skoda dealer and received the same advice.

If that was universal then I can't wait till mine is out of warranty, and get is serviced by my exceptionally reliable local garage 100 yards down the road. He did my early oil and filter change with a very willing spirit and sensible attitude. My local Skoda dealer was in fact quite happy to do that early oil change if I wanted them to do it - they certainly did not take the view of turning off light and wait till max interval regardless.

I've just hand my second annual service total mileage 4463!

Now 5300mls @ 16 months ...booked in this week for 1st service ,,quoted £175.

Will speak to them about changing to annual.

Thanks everyone

Mine is down to 6400 miles/22 days to service. What did the service adviser say when you booked the car in,none of the 'the car does does not need servicing until its 2 years old routine'?.I am still bemused by the conflicting advice given.

What does the Maxidot say? Our Yeti's book says variable servicing but when we got it, the Maxidot showed it was set for fixed servicing. This seems quite common, and there have also been reports on here of dealers switching cars on variable back to fixed.

The QG1 code in the handbook therefore seems to mean that the car is capable of having variable servicing, not that it is necessarily set for it when supplied.

From my own experience it seems common practice by many dealers to switch cars to time and distance during the PDI. Assume they may do this to increase your visits to their establishment. This will not be just for generating income through additional servicing but I'm sure they also hope that as you pass through the showroom to the service desk, your eye might be caught by that shiny new motor sat there ready to draw you in ;)

Turned the ignition on this morning and got the message '19 days to service'.Have booked the car in tomorrow for an oil change service and have also asked to reset the service indicator to fixed servicing.BTW quoted £115-00.

That's what happened to me - I went to get a new Columbus aerial fitted under warranty, vaguely thinking about the new L&K model, and while waiting for the work to be done and idly chatting to a salesman, the deal was done ... !

Yep - saw a shiny new DSG Elegance sat there and bought it!

Service carried out for £105-00 in the end.Service interval set to time and distance.Only downside was after the car had been standing for 10 mins' outside the house oil started to appear under the engine bay so,back to Lawries for them to have a look and it was just spilt oil draining from the under tray.Should have been mopped up before the car was handed back to me of course but, thats life I suppose.BTW now the car is on fixed rather than variable servicing the oil temp' readout on the MFD has vanished.

I checked with the garage why I needed a service seemingly 8 months early & was told that this was due to very low mileage - the sensors decide if a service is required and 2 yrs is the max.

I maybe old fashioned, but I'm happy with a (at least oil) service yearly or just above. The turbo shim and 2 software things were also done.

Charged £175 as per quote.

The service indicator was reset at 9400 miles or 372 days to next service, have just noticed the mileage has already dropped from 9400 t0 9300 miles. Is this normal?.

my last yeti was on variable service and had its first service at 17,000 miles which was round about a year old.
